Going to Columbia County for a project (staying around Grovetown), and love to find the food gems! Any particularly great spots? We'll be travelling all around the county!
I live in a small townhouse community off of wrightsboro Rd, why is the trash delayed. Tomorrow will be a week
I’m 27 years old and need to develop some financial literacy skills. What’s are some ways to learn these skills? Classes? If you have any tips or suggestions please let me know thanks
The link below is to a Substack post which includes a downloadable PDF of every reconsideration request submitted to the Columbia County Library Advisory Board (including one submitted by the author of the post) from 9/1/2024 to 12/9/2024. The post contains brief descriptions of each but I encourage everyone to actually look at the full requests. Some of the complaints are beyond absurd and the homophobia is beyond ridiculous. I am going to include just a couple of direct quotes here leaving out the names of those who submitted the reconsideration form.

Book: Teo's Tutu
This is a children's picture book for children ages 3-5. The person who submitted the reconsideration form suggested it should be shelved in the Adult Fiction section in part because:
"Here is a little boy, Teo, who the author of this book and his parents and the dance class and teachers are implying by their inaction (and smiles) to steer him to dress properly that 'it is fine to dress like a girl because you feel like a girl and maybe someday you will grow up to be a girl.' What is wrong with parents and teachers who can't find a sparkly flowing male costume for the poor boy! But, no, they put him in a girl's costume because he likes the frills. Give him frills but give him masculinity."

Book: Ryan and Avery
A novel for teens and young adults.
The complaint on this one includes the following:
"The purpose of the book is normalizing gay love without telling any of its consequences to families and society. There is no balance of having homosexual and heterosexual heroes and no theme that is useful for the fabric of society."
Seriously though, go read the full complaints and make some judgements for yourself.
I don’t know if I’m allowed to put this out on here and just know I don’t have a personal vendetta against anybody in particular. Seven years ago we had trees fall on our house and we used Paul Davis Restoration from start to finish on the repairs, you can DM me for specifics, but I will just say that I would stay away from them. They do cheap work, don’t stand behind their work and then when you contact them(perhaps about a brand new roof leaking in multiple locations), they will not answer the phone or come back out. Since the time of their repairs I have spent $7000 out of pocket to fix everything that they have done wrong . With recent events in the area, I thought everybody should know.
So... Newmantown Rd has the problem of utility workers only working for part of the day. They've made no progress. Am I supposed to just accept that we're not a priority?
All week, Columbia County staff have been collecting donations for the community. These donations were scheduled to begin distribution today. Due to Donald Trump's visit, donations and distribution are effectively shut down for a photo op.
Let's be clear, this political visit has stopped families from receiving diapers, baby formula, water and other vital distributions during a difficult time.
Hi community! I have family in Bridlewood and was wondering if anyone has any news/updates on the conditions over there and GA Power. Thanks and stay safe!
Anyone know how far west you have to go to find semi-normal gas station operations? I bounce between Atlanta and Augusta, and I’m doing a turn and burn back to Augusta tomorrow. I’d like to fill up one last time before it gets bad.
Update: DATE HAS CHANGED TO SATURDAY 10/5!!
A handful of people have politicized the Columbia County Library Advisory Board and Commissioners and are using the Moms for Liberty playbook to effectively ban books. Some of the connections in between the people are a bit convoluted to see (see second link below) but what it boils down to is very simple. They are protesting books based on simple topics they essentially don't like (anything remotely sexual, especially LGBTQ; or cursing, one book was included because of the word "butt") and having them reclassified into the adult section. This lets them pretend they're not banning books - "We're just moving them to a more age appropriate section!"...
Malarkey! Because then, when kids' books shelved in the adult section never get checked out, they get removed since they are not being used.
If you want to protect the right to choose what your own children read instead of having books eliminated from the public library by a handful of radicals, please join this peaceful protest this weekend!

This will impact more than just Columbia County if the guidelines are approved. Here's some information and a link to a petition.

I am working on a book about news coverage of local government. If you are willing to talk to me about your experience with local news or how you find out what is going on with your municipal government or the Columbia County Commission, please reply or send me a DM.
We are a group of students at Augusta University trying to identify the factors that affect pre-medical students, medical students, residents, physicians, and retired physicians choice of speciality and work location. This survey will only take 5 minutes and we would greatly appreciate it if you could take some time today to fill out our survey! Also, please feel free to share this with anyone you know who is a pre-med, medical student, resident, physician, or retired physician as we are stopping data collection soon!
Just a few updates:
Anybody else get the tax assessment this year and feel it is way over value?
Fedex has lost my parents' order of Northshore Megamax adult diapers (tabbed, overnight). We have re-ordered also but we need something now, due to an opthamological procedure that my mom has to sit through tomorrow.
Regular brands like Depend from pharmacies or Walmart are not enough; my mom has no bladder control at all. We need medical type adult diaper at the highest absorbency, such as Northshore Megamax.
Willing to purchase a package, or will purchase just a few diapers if you can spare a few, just for the procedure and overnight.
Flexible on price; will meet in public. Evans area. Thanks.
I am wondering what sort of clubs exist in our county. I like walking, hiking, orchids, plants, writing, meetups, and social activities.
I myself moved here in 1990 but left for California in 2004 it came back in 2017. Boy things have changed, esp with the pandemic and all.
How do people socialize around here?
Where do folks trade bourbon bottles on secondary market? The stores have lost their minds.
There’s some construction near the entrance to Jones Creek - looks like cable trucks with spools of large orange cable. Anyone know what’s going on?
It took me a hot minute to figure out which Columbia County this Reddit belonged to. How about adding a description like "Columbia County, GA"?
