I created a new profile but I cannot change the target in the desktop icon from <<C3D Imperial>> to my new profile file.
My thought on a work-around is to make a copy of the default C3D Imperial file then rename my custom profile to C3D Imperial.
The problem is I cannot seem to find the default C3D profile. What gives? Is that the actual name? Where is it actually located at? Or is there a better way to make the change?
I've been working on creating some surfaces to use to compare for volume calcs for a project. I think I finally got my surfaces done but when I try and set up the compute materials I can't seem to figure out what is going on.
First off, let me say, I can use the volume dashboard and I get a number that is close to what we were expecting using the surfaces I create.
I tried to create a New Qauntity Takeoff Criteria and it seems to work. I'm not 100% cetain this is how I want it set up, but I was just trying to make an example and ran into my issue.
The problem comes when I actual click on the compute materials button and select my alignment/sections. No matter what I do my surfaces down't show up in the material list dropdown or anywhere else. i only get to pick the EG surface (which I don't want in this case). I have several surfaces in my file, but I can't select any of them.
I have tried adding, removing, and readding them to the "sample more sources" window. I've deleted and recreated my criteria I made. I just have no idea what the heck is happening? I'm sure this is user error, I'm very new to this. I really don't know exactly what I'm doing.
Anyone have any idea?
I asked sometime ago for opinions on civil 3D and most people talked about the overuse of the escape button. Lol guys. It's like the most pressed key. Oh and by the way, I am preserving my hands because wow after a day of designing in civil 3D you just want to relax your hands and fingers. I usually just go to bed and no more late night chats. I'll be literally exhausted. Anyway, I'm so glad I chose to do this as part of my career development. The challenges are exciting. I'm doing road design by the way. Happy Designing!!! 🤗
I have a problem in civil 3d, I have created a longitudinal profile and when I create it in the guitar nothing comes out, no data comes out blank
Specs:
AMD Ryzen 5 9600X 6-Core
32GB Ram 4800MHz
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Super
I also use the DACH-Kit for civil 3d, if i press often ESC i get out of the animation but the intersection comes back.
So, to preface, I've been using gaming laptops for all my Civil 3D and modeling/analysis needs these past 5 years. Yes I know dedicated workstations are better but I need portability. On a daily or weekly basis I am using:
From what I can tell system requirement wise, Civil 3D is by far the heaviest demand. I know people often say the program only uses a single core for the processor, but I have had two different i7 laptops in the past and felt that both were slower (previous one had 32GB of RAM & the current has 64GB - each with several TB's of NVME SSD and NVIDIA RTX cards). And I always run my laptops on a cooling pad that's running full blast to keep temps down. Again, the main reason I run a laptop is for the portability aspect as I occasionally have to work remote for periods of time
So, if I were to opt for a more powerful laptop with say an i9 processor and even more DDR5 RAM, paired with any RTX 4060/4070/4080 am I just wasting money? I know just enough about PC performance to probably waste money if I'm not carful. Don't mind a great laptop - just want to make sure I'm not buying performance that I'll likely never need
I've created my surface and showing my steep slope ranges on my plan. When I try to insert a surface legend table for slopes, the program asks for the type of table. I select Slopes. It then asks if I want it to be dynamic or static. When I select either Static or Dynamic the prompts end. It does not ask for an insertion point to insert the table. It goes right back to a command prompt.
I'm on layer 0. I have all the slope table layers turned on. Any idea what the problem could be?
Is it possible to export a Prefix database to a csv file?
Hi, im using C3D 2016 and suddenly it start to apear message out of memory and automatically closes C3D and i didn t even open any drawing. Is there any way to fix this?
Hey everyone,
I’m trying to drape an image onto a surface in Civil 3D for the first time, but I can’t get it to work. Here’s my workflow:
However, no matter what display settings I try, the image does not appear on the surface. It’s not visible in Civil 3D nor when I append the surface to Navisworks. I’ve checked different visual styles and tried various approaches, but I still can't get the image to show up.
Since this is my first time attempting to project an image onto a surface, I might be missing something obvious. Is there a specific setting or workflow I should follow? Any advice or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
If you were charged with the task as written in the subject line, what would you take this to mean in terms of hours? This is essentially an employer who has no standards. That means no templates, no established linetypes, styles, titleblocks, etc.
Is this some herculean effort or can these things be created in a reasonable amount of time?
I'm a survey draftsman. I spend more than half of the time I spend on a drawing moving points groups , specifically "All Points" and " Plotting" back and forth back and forth back and forth.
There has to be a way or a hotkey, that I can make it a one key command. Maybe a Macro or something, someone please help!
Does anyone have already some cross sections of railways in autocad or pdf. Like different cross sections showing ballast, sleepers, sub ballast etc
I'm trying to figure out how to set up a project file for our graduation project. Our campus doesn't offer any sort of shared drive we can all pull from for structuring our .DWG's.
Does Autodesk have an existing cloud server that allows for referencing and file storage? I see that Desktop connector and Drive exist but I'm not sure which to use nor how to set things up.
Any ideas or suggestions would be a tremendous help for being able to get started!
I have a pipe network that is data referenced into another drawing. I've changed the styles on a few pipes in the source file. When I synchronize they dont change to the new styles. What could I be doing wrong?
I have a surface with a constant grade from north to south and from the sides in to the centre as you can see. The water will therefore fall towards the center and down the middle.
I have put a few manholes in the middle of the road to catch the water and want to do a catchment area for these different manholes. I have made an catchment area and put the manhole thats marked in the red circle as my refrence structure. Why is the catchment area further down the road than the manhole that is referenced? Shouldnt the catchment area show me the parts of the surface that leads to the refrenced structure? The water south of that manhole have no possibility to reach the refrenced structure?
Hi everyone!
I'm working on a Civil 3D project with a long alignment of over 70 km, involving multiple corridors. To make things easier, I split the alignment into zones and created separate DWG files for each zone, with around 100 section views in each.
In one DWG file, all corridors displayed correctly in the section views, but in others, some corridors were missing. These missing corridors were tied to different baselines within the same main corridor. I double-checked everything—code set styles, section view styles, and sample line styles—and all were identical because I used the same template.
After some digging, I found the root of the problem and a solution, which I’m sharing here in case someone else runs into the same issue:
When creating multiple section views, I used the automatic section range option. This caused Civil 3D to display only the corridor linked to the alignment for which the sample lines were created, while omitting corridors tied to other baselines within the same main corridor.
In the DWG file where everything worked fine, I didn’t use the automatic section range. Instead, I chose the User Specified Range option and manually set the range to include all relevant sample lines for the zone. After doing this, all corridors showed up correctly in the section views.
I believe this is a bug, not a feature. Civil 3D should automatically display all corridors within the sample lines' range, regardless of how the section range is defined.
If you encounter the same issue, try this solution—it worked for me, and I hope it helps you too!
P.S. If anyone from Autodesk sees this, please investigate and fix this in future updates.
Corridors tied to different baselines within the same main corridor were not showing in section views when using the automatic section range option. Solution: use User Specified Range and manually set the range for the sample lines.
I created an alignment style, which I've done hundreds of times. This style ended up being a Child under another label. I copied an existing syle, which I alway do, to create it, but they don't come in as Child styles. Can I move it to make it a Primary label?
I know I can create it from scratch, but wondering if I can move it. Seems like I did this previously.
Hello everyone I was modeling an obstacle limiting surface in civil 3d using lines, these are just simple surfaces that involves slopes(it's the height limiting surfaces for aviation operations). Now that I have finished modeling the imaginary surfaces, I want to convert it into a civil 3d surface so that I can run an analysis on it but unfortunately I am encounting some problems, one being that the curved parts of the model are not recognized when I use the "drawing objects" option in addting data to the surface. Are there any alternatives or solution to my problem if so, your help would be greatly appreciated, thank you very muchhhh.
Now that we’ve seen your North Arrows, show us your scale bars!
I do not have any experience with CAD software, this question is just me coming to a possible conclusion as to why I have seen errors in the field as a surveyor
So, working on a DOT project they provide us with a set of control data with listed scale factors to get back to grid distances if desired
I use GPS to create a site calibration with the provided points and it corrects the grid distances it’s measuring and turns it into ground, showing a scale factor that matches the DOTs
The DOT provides us with right of way cad files that I’m assuming were created using a scale factor
Company I work for creates their own alignments in C3d without a scale factor applied, just punch in the coordinates they give in the geometry data set, this gives them the illusion they are “matching the plans”
I go stake out a point of intersection between two lines (a property corner) using my calibration and DOT provided cad file and find the physical location of the pin where it shows on my screen
The DOT placed a stake with alignment stations at the PI but I’m not matching by 2ft on station is this due to my company not applying a scale factor when creating their cad files??
I'm newer to C3D and have been trying to figure out the best ways to grade. My company's idea of training is "do this and figure it out, make your own methods" so that's what I've been doing. I hand grade first, then transfer to CAD. I've been creating feature line breaklines for all features like curbs, sidewalks, and anywhere I need to adjust the surface and slopes. I have no problem with this.
My question is where it comes to adjusting the contours to what I need. After Surface Smoothing, I've been creating flat feature lines for a contour to follow to help define/clarify the surface. Given that they're a consistent elevation, could I skip the feature line conversion and just create 2D polyline breaklines? It would be significantly easier to adjust the lines as necessary and I wouldn't have to worry about the site on which they're located (I think). I'm having a hard time finding answers as to whether this technique is okay; most sites say use 3D polyline or feature lines, but I don't feel the need for any 3D lines when I'm manually adjusting a contour.
So are 2D polylines acceptable as breaklines for adjusting contours, or are there better ways others might recommend?
I am making a straightforward road with a ditch next to it for a school assignment in C3D 2022. But somehow I ended up with the corridor all messed up as shown in this screenshot.
I have all the offset and elevation targets set up correctly, and I've tried adjusting the length of the feature lines and the alignment. I know C3D has this kinds of issues with corridors but I feel like it shouldn't be doing this.
Does anybody have a solution to this?
I'm working on a neighborhood and and my surface keeps moving like 2 feet. It's one massive surface built off of a bunch of smaller road corridor surfaces. I then took my grading pads and ditches and turn them into breaklines on the surface. But my breakline points keep moving like 2 feet and everytime I redo it my contours change. How do I fix this? Edit: it's the whole surface that moves horizontally like 2 feet south west.
Hey everyone,
I’m a junior Construction Manager currently working on a road construction project, and I’m running into some challenges with Civil 3D. Specifically, I’m trying to adjust the tar levels to ensure proper alignment with the kerb levels, but I’ve noticed that some of the kerbs are sitting 50mm–90mm higher than the proposed tar levels.
I need to modify the tar levels to account for proper drainage slopes, as my surveyor will be implementing these new levels.
Does anyone have tips or workflows on how to efficiently adjust the tar levels in Civil 3D to fix this issue? Any advice on using features like profiles, grading tools, or surfaces would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Just wondering what everyone is using.
This is what the firm I work at has been using and I think it looks old fashioned as hell.
A scroll with some weird retro N? Idk man let me see some cool North Arrows please.
I can display vertical angle on profile view, but could not find the way to display Aligment Delta Angle on profile view. Thnx!
Does anyone know how to get my corridor to show up? For some reason it's only showing these feature-line-type lines and not the actual corridor. The layer is on, targets are all good, I've tried different assemblies and all the links are good. Unsure as to what might be the issue.
Hi Folks,
Short Time, First Time
I've got a gap in my corridor between sections. They, obviously, use different assemblies, and the bulk of each section behaves as I expect. I'm hoping there is something I can learn here for the future.
You can see how it models below. Does it have to interpolate? I can increase the frequency and narrow this zone, but I don't want to run .05 feet throughout the entire section. It seems to be affected by the east (right) corridor.
It should look more like the red lines.
I tried to add a breakline, but it went wild. I thought I'd throw it out here to see whether anyone else would agree breaklines are the way to go or if this is a common issue with a common other solution .
The cross section actually looks fine in that place, so my project manager said it'd be fine for our purposes. Still, it bugs a guy.
This is correct (Though I need to elevate the lower wall)
Thank you any and all.
Is there an official Autodesk tool or patch available to resolve the 'Script Control (msscript.ocx)' error without requiring a complete reinstall, registry edits, or manual file adjustments?
