The ASUS CS10 Chromebit is at End of Life. It was a great little, and super cheap, computer that I have used for years for basic tasks, plugged into an old TV.

But what can replace it? It seems clear that ASUS has no intention of building a new updated Chromebit. They have a Chromebox line, but it really doesn't compare since it is 5-10x the price of the Chromebit.

What alternatives are out there? Is there a budget Chromebox around?

Can you run Chrome on a high spec Raspberry Pi perhaps?

Hi all, I have a Chromebit that was apparently set up with some German app Viewneo and I cannot exit out of it without a wifi connection, which of course I can't set up while stuck in the app. Anyone able to help please? I already tried to hard reset several times and it's not working, it just keeps reopening Viewneo

i was trying to install arch internally (maybe someone knows how to transfer my installation from usb :) ) in order to get better performance in i/o operations, then maybe i would get two usb Ethernet adapters that work with arch, and would start dreaming about this ~18 wats server again.

Maybe latest kernel and linux-armv7 and linux-chromebook-armv7 updates broke it. I wasn't liking wifi latency and usb 2 speeds, but i was really happy running useful machines without wasting much power and using cs10's which i have 4 of them.

For now i'm sadly running both services from an intel nuc, but i would much rather run those lightweight services from the chromebits i have laying around.

I just got a chromebit and because I don't have a keyboard at the moment, and also I want to play PC games on my phone I want to see if I can connect it to my phone. I got an adapter so I can plug it in, and my phone registers it, but not much more than that.

Hi! Is there any way to extend my chromebit's life? I'm getting the end of life warnings and am looking for options to keep using the device safely.

Basically, I have a chromebit connected to a TV which runs Google Slides all day.

Is there anyway for me to remote into the Chromebit with my laptop to change the Google Slides, or do I have to connect a usb mouse and keyboard to the Chromebit to manage?

I've had my Chromebit for several years now. It's really handy and I get a lot of use out of it. I moved and finally unpacked the thing and set it up on my 4K Sceptre TV and I noticed that the contrast is way too high. The only picture settings I've found so far are resolution and over-scan, while the only contrast or image control settings I've found are to toggle "high contrast mode" for accessibility. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the fact that 1) It is a few years old and it's been in a box for almost a year, 2) Maybe Chromebits shouldn't be used in 4K displays?

I've tried changing the picture settings on my TV and nothing really helps it.

Does anyone have any insight? I'd really like for this to work better.

Every post I find online says the Chromebit is $85 or there are blog posts saying it is the best computer stick under $100. It's currently on amazon for $230, and on newegg for sale at $170 (crossed out full price is $240.) Why the drastic increase?

On the side of my box is indicates with a sticker that the chrome bit causes cancer and infertility.... Any reason why it would say this?

I have been putting off buying a chromebit for years :) but I finally broke down and purchased one. I purchased an ipazzport keyboard with it too. Waiting for updates to complete before I play with it. Any suggestions?

I am a bit surprised how large the chromebit is, I expected it to be a little smaller, but it seems like it is built well.

I wanted to set up my parents TV so that we could video chat. I have found very little information on people using this for hangouts. On Amazon, one person said it was choppy and laggy, while three others said it works.

Anyone else have any experience with this?

I’m looking into a chromebit and am wondering if these would work. They aren’t regular Bluetooth but require a USB plugin.

My tv is a bit older and I use a smaller resolution so ny wife can see the screen clearly. It works great except for overnight when I turn the tv off the resolution defaults to one that so high it makes everything tiny. I have tje keep awake app on chrome. But it doesnt seem to help ovwrnight. Is there anyway to permanently change the default resolution?

I'm setting up three screens in different corners of my warehouse that I need to manage from a central location. Two will show websites and one will show a slideshow. Chromebit seems to be a popular choice; the only problem is figuring out licensing and cost.

As I understand it, I have to buy Buy G Suite ($5/mo for one "user") to get access to the Google Admin console, and from there I can then buy a Chrome Enterprise license ($50 / yr / Chromebit). It looks like I can use Google Slides (free) for the slideshow, Chrome Sign Builder (free) for content scheduling, and three Chromebits for the three screens ($80 ea).

Does that sound right? It wasn't very obvious that you need to buy G Suite before you can buy the Chromebit software.

Has anyone tested a micro USB network adapter on a chromebit? I don't have wireless at this location and need a kiosk.

I am trying to find an easy workour to stream xfinity to my tv. I dont want a set top box. I dont car about limited channels as I use a laptop in another room and it does plenty.

I am trying to get a nice wireless look to my living room and would rather have 1 cord for the chromebit than a whole box.

If it can can it be controlled via android apps? Or do you have to have a wireless keyboad and mouse?

I have a asus chrombit that I am using for our conference room- currently there is a windows 10 stick computer that works great but we are repurposing that computer and placing a chrome bit in its place- when the chrom bit is plugged in to the projector (and source is selected as hdmi) the screen is stable and showing whats its supposed to, then after about 15 seconds the screen goes dark, then darker, flashes back to a clear screen and then repeats-- I have tried the chromebit on a hdtv- works like a charm,

any idea on what the deal is

Hey there! I was considering getting one of these in order to test it as a simple video conferencing system, by connecting it to Jitsi, but I'm not sure if it would hold up. According to the specs it can do hw assisted VP8, which is promising! Has anyone tried it for this?

I have an ASUS chromebit connected to a webcam through a usb hub but the image displays as if it has a filter on it. This screenshot shows what I am seeing Screenshot I have swapped the webcam for another and it show the same. Both of the cameras work fine on my laptop (a chromebook). I can't find anything that would allow me to change the settings. What on earth is happening with this?

Is there a place that I'm not finding where I can set the chrome bit to automatically restart? It randomly freezes in kiosk mode and I need to force the power off pretty frequently, auto restarts might resolve it. Thanks!

Can I use my iPhone or iPad as a keyboard for a Chromebit? I have an odd use case since I would like to use the Chromebit simply to display a website on a TV so I would like to be able to control it without having to connect a keyboard and mouse.

I work with a School District and we are having issues with our Chromebit's. They run a custom Kiosk extension. We use them for digital signage, and they are powering off whenever they are rebooted. They power off via the Google Admin console, and they power off via code with "chrome.runtime.restart();".

Our network is restricted, and that is the only thing I can think of as a cause. The chance of the device coming back on is nearly 50/50, sometimes it WILL come back online and sometimes it won't. The other night our weekly reboot for OS updates occurred, and only 5 came back out of it 40 - the remaining 35 are now powered off.

When the reboot command is initiated, the screen goes black and it never turns back on. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

One of the most annoying things that happens is the on screen keyboard will appear once in a while, even with our external keyboard plugged in. Is there any way to disable this?

Does anyone have a part number for the CS10 Chromebit power supply/DC wall wart? We moved buildings, and it seems to have decided to jump ship.

Anyone have a line on replacement parts for it, or a part number? Failing that, a barrel size on the DC input so I can get a replacement universal plug?
