An ink study of Saint Gerasimus of Kefalonia by me.

His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos visited my parish and I took the opportunity to make this for him, thankfully he loved it!

Anyone know someone who can paint this?

I found an icon of one of my favourite saints (St Mitraphan of China) who was a native Chinese martyr but found out it is out of stock. I really want one hand painted but I do not know where to go

I wanna say I got scammed

Smaller than I initially thought, that’s my fault, but the quality is bad, it looks like an image just printed from google onto it.

Does anyone know where to get good gold leaf in the United States?

I write icons but am based in the U.S., so I am wondering where I can buy good quality gold leaf for icon guilding! My teacher buys hers overseas from a niche vendor that I can’t find anywhere online.

I got this icon and want to make sure it’s okay

So I’ve bought this icon online and from what I see there’s nothing wrong with it, for some context this is also my very first icon, I grew up evangelical so I wanted something not to crazy so my parents won’t flip out lol. But I just wanted to make sure it’s okay because I know some places aren’t valid to get icons from. Thanks for any and all advice, God bless ☦️

Russian Icons

Hi 👋 I’m a big time redditor looking to start a small gallery/free museum showcasing my parents collection of Russian icons. They have been collecting them since before they were married( almost 50 years!); I want show them these are appreciated by others. They love them so much. I was wondering what way is the best way to honor/curate these.

I like the idea of the being on a black wall with spotlights to let them shine. What is best? I’d also like some placards with history or a narrative to elaborate on the provenance. Any ideas on this ? Thanks in advance!

My second attempt

What do yall think, im looking for honest opinion, I know using acrylic paint isn't traditional but it's what I'm used to working with and I think it looks good. I gifted it to my friend for her prayer corner.

References for Commissioned Icons

HI guys, I have a project going on with an iconographer, and I need some help with sources foe the earliest depiction and then the common depiction as cemented through history for a couple of saints.

Saint Paul of Thebes Saint Anthony the Great Saint Macarius the Great Saint Pachomious the Great

At the moment, the only one I have really solid is Saint Anthony who seems to be consistently shown with a blue hood, red cloak, light colored under tunic, and a white or red cross on his forehead and chest. Medium sized forked beard, and has a walking stick.

Any help to fill out earliest depiction and common depiction for each of the saints would be really great.

Thanks!

Iconography books?

Beginning of this year I started a course on byzantine church iconography, do you have any book recommendations?

I'm currently focusing on two styles of iconography 'the byzantine style from Crete' and 'ethiopian tewahedo style', but any book recommendation surrounding this subject is welcome.

Secular subjects with iconography techniques?

I was wondering if anybody knows of any artists who make portrayals of secular subjects (nature, animals, etc) using iconography techniques. I am Jewish, but happened upon iconography in the last few months and am positively fascinated by the techniques' connection to the natural world, and the beauty and tradition of it all. It has honestly rekindled my interest in Christianity (my father is Christian, though Protestant). Iconography is something I'd be very interested in learning more about, but I was wondering if there would be some offense caused by using traditional iconography techniques for non-religious purposes or studying it as a non-Christian. I do plan on talking to a local Ukrainian Orthodox priest soon, but perhaps there are questions I should be asking that I'm unaware of or don't have the vocabulary to ask. Blessings to all!
