I have avoidant personality disorder (AVPD)

My child who is visually impaired w/ a 504 plan on Long Island NY , was refused her hard earned psat10. My child is taking college courses, ap, and honors English. All the able bodied students was allowed to take on 10/16/20. I was told it’s to much work??? Imagine being visually impaired? How hard that is????? College board approved accommodations, they say see if another school will host psat10, to bad we hv covid and no school will host an outside student. I clld 210 schools. My only hope is a Christian school.

I'm from a writers’ resources company called Winning Writers. Part of our mission is to find and promote voices and themes underrepresented in publishing, including (but of course not limited to) racial, cultural, national, religious, gender/sexual identity, body positive, and [dis]abled. We are interested primarily in the representation of the voices/themes in the poetry, rather than the identity of the writer. The Tom Howard/Margaret Reid Poetry Contest we are running right now offers two first prizes of $2,000 each. Ten honorable mentions will receive $100 each, and the top twelve entries will all be published on our site. The contest is international and the deadline is September 30. I’m posting here specifically because our long term goal is to change the composition of our entry pool to include more entries featuring diverse characters and themes. These voices need to be heard, and we are actively reaching out to find them.

Sometimes when I post, there are some replies worried about a scam, so in order to head that off I just want to say that our competitions are listed by The Write Life as some of the top writing competitions out there, and we’re in Writer’s Digest’s top eight sites for writers. Hello Everyone,

I am a current undergraduate at Johns Hopkins University. With the help of various staff members, I am compiling a short story anthology that will exclusively feature short stories written by people with disabilities. All of the stories will feature disabled main characters.

I am accepting submissions until October 1st. Responses to submissions will be sent out in November. The anthology will be published as a free e-book in March 2018.

All submissions should adhere to the following guidelines:

• The story’s protagonist must have a disability. The term "disability" encompasses anyone with a physical, mental, emotional, cognitive, or sensory impairment that significantly affects one or more major life functions.

• Only disabled individuals who are 16 years old or older may submit.

• Stories must be between 500 and 7500 words.

• Each story’s content should be appropriate for readers 13 years old and older. It’s fine to have some violence and/or swearing, but it shouldn’t be gratuitous.

• All genres of stories except for erotica will be considered.

• Reprints are fine, although previously unpublished stories are preferred.

• Simultaneous submissions are fine, but writers should let us know if their submission is accepted elsewhere.

• The short story should be in Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced.

Submissions should be sent to disabilitysubmissions@gmail.com as Word attachments. Each author may only submit one short story for consideration.

The email should also include the writer’s complete contact information, a brief third person biography, and information about their disability.

Writers will be paid $30 for the one-time non-exclusive right to publish their story in the anthology. Writers will be paid shortly after the anthology is published.

Had a really beautiful sermon today. Our pastor was going to give a different sermon but she had just earlier heard that a friend of hers from a previous congregation was sick with pneumonia and may die. Her friend has severe cerebral palsey and has extreme difficulty communicating, basically nodding yes or no to questions. Our pastor was on her care team and back then had put together a sermon for her friend. The sermon described her life, difficult things she had to go through, her relationships, and also her faith and love. She said that when she died she would have a voice so that she could sing a song of thankfulness to God. Even despite all the trouble caused by her illness, she was still so thankful for what she had. She talked of wishing she could play in the snow, of her love for being around children. She talked of her most difficult times; being assaulted by a caregiver, her parents not being accepting of her being a lesbian.

I'm not doing a very good job of relating it very well but it was very moving and powerful. Sometimes I feel like my own life is a struggle. I have a disability myself (bipolar), but hearing that made me realize that my own struggles are very small compared to hers. Her strength, related to us through her sermon, is inspiring.

It should be a blast! I already play basketball and softball so it's right up my alley! Do any of you play any sports? And have you ever gone to a Christian camp like this?
