They are so dramatic 😭

I let my gerbils out to play like I do every day, but today chilli was particularly salty banging around in his cage and squeaking 💀

then Hershey steps up and starts alarm thumping like she's solving anything 🙄

What’s wrong??

Just came back from an overnight with friends and my little one is acting quite weird. She has plenty of hay, pellets; and water. Nothing in her cage is out of the ordinary, but when I came in; she didn’t run to the front side of her cage to see me like she usually does. She’s incredibly social and always comes to see me and say hi. I put her pellets in front of her to see if she’d eat (she always eats when they’re right in front of her) and she’s just staring at it. I opened the cage to pet her and she definitely always comes to the front when I do that; she still hunkered in the corner. So I sat down with her to just watch her and see what she does and she started making these sounds. I don’t know what it means but it’s really freaking me out that something is wrong.

(As I finished typing this, she did take a couple bites of her pellets, but she’s still not coming out)

Pee in his fur??

Hello, my chinchilla has what looks like pee in his fur. It’s not a lot, just two sections on either side of his privates. I think it’s from him peeing on his favorite ledge & sitting in it. 😰 If I had to guess anyways, he loves to sleep on that ledge & spends a lot of time on it. I have been changing his fleece tray liners so I don’t think it could be from there.

What do I do? Would a dust bath help? He doesn’t let me pick him up yet so I can’t do that, at least I don’t think so.

I’m gonna clean & put a fleece pad down on that ledge and swap it out like daily from now on. He’s only been in his big cage for a few days. I feel so bad! This must have happened today because it wasn’t like that yesterday. I’m just noticing it now.

Should I take him to the vet?

I attached a picture but I couldn’t get a good angle.

Thank you for any help!

Bonding with my Chinchilla

I’m a first time owner and my chin was really skittish when I got him, he also weren’t really taken care of before. The breeder kept 2 of them in a really small cage. When I got him, I read every post about bonding and we were doing bonding sessions at night in my empty room. He was hiding mostly and I was playing with my phone or pc and acted like I didn’t care about him. But now, he started to be very interested in me!!! He comes running, jumps on me and continues his way and chills next to me. I am really thankful for your posts and I’m so happy that we get to bond. Thank you so much. Just wanted to share my happy moment.🫶🏻

Fall, hurt back leg.

Hi was wondering if anyone could help or has experience, I was cleaning my chinchillas cage and she managed to jump out from her 2nd floor ferret nation, I was just about to let her out for play time as well. She has a small limp it's her back left leg, she's still managing to move just not her usual active self. I took her to the vet who checked her and said nothing was broken or swollen, she's on metacam once a day for the pain but she isn't eating as much. She's used her sand bath but has just been sitting in it for a while now. She's eating her treats and some hay just getting a little worried. She is a older girl at 13. Any advice?

Chin Addicted to Supernatural

This little floof loves the show Supernatural. I've been binging the whole series for a few weeks now and as soon as I turn the TV on, he hops to the front shelf and just sits and watches. (He still gets his zoomies and spinnies in, just goes back to watching after)

We're on the last season now and I'm torn between putting it on for him while I'm at work once I'm done watching it. I know it's not healthy for ME to watch TV for several hours straight which is why I only binge something about twice a year. Is it bad if I let him keep doing it? I swear he loves Sam and Dean at least as much as I do.

Does anyone else sing to their chinchillas?

I’ve found myself singing (softly) to my chinchilla & he seems to enjoy it. It’s really cute & I was wondering if anyone else sings to theirs/if theirs likes singing.

25 pound vs 3 pound bag of chinchilla food

Our pet store only has the 3 lb bag for $15, so we looked online and Amazon sold a 25 lb bag for $44! $1.76/lb vs nearly $5/lb!

Need advise

With a heavy heart we have decided to get rid of our chinchillas. We love them very much but we do not give them the love they deserve. They are constantly caged, not bathed enough, not played with, and very sparingly loved. They deserve so much better than what we have given them. They deserve a better life with a loving caring owner. However, we don't know how to go about finding a new owner. We don't want to give them away for free because that just guarantees neglect. We want to be sure they are going to a good home. So we're thinking of selling them both with cage and all (food, dust bathes, wheels, treats, houses, etc.) for $300. We understand that's cheap but we believe that if someone is willing enough to pay that much are willing to take care and love them for sure. We can't find a place to sell them besides word mouth. What can we do?

How much hay/pellets to buy at one time?

Hello. :) I’m a relatively new chin owner (got my little guy about 2.5 weeks ago from someone who needed to rehome him) & his bag of hay is already almost gone. I’m gonna get him some more tomorrow, and will be needing to buy more pellets eventually, but I was wondering, how much do you all usually buy at one time?

I’ve seen people say it’s not good to buy a whole bunch of either at once, because the pellets lose nutritional value over time & they are picky about their hay (want it to be as fresh as possible). What size bags do you guys get, and at what frequency?

I know Oxbow is the best, and that’s what I got (and plan to keep getting). Oxbow western timothy hay & garden select pellets (I’ve seen people recommend the “essentials” more, but the store only had garden select at the time & I plan on getting the essentials next).

Thank you all for any help! :)

Oh no! I accidentally dumped the last of my bath sand!

I thought I had a whole extra bag, but it turned out to be treats, not sand!

Is there anything I can use as a substitute while I wait for delivery?

<UPDATE> found some! Thanks all.

Is this completely normal?

Hi 😊 i have a chinchilla called Cookie, she's my best friend.. ive had her for 11 years and she's always been kinda timid, doesnt like being touched. However, we've gotten closer and closer these last few months since losing her daughter pebbles who we miss everyday 😢

The last month shes started sitting on me, on my knees or my legs, on my hands, on my back if i lie down. Shes also nibbling my lips anytime i put my face to hers to kiss her. 🥰 but when i try to stroke her head or her face, neck, body etc she just will never let me. She will flap her ears at me haha or make alittle noise so is this normal? Like the bond has to be on her terms kind of things? 😅

Thank you for taking the time to read this ❤️
