Have an 80's book and it smells like an older book. I admit I love that smell when reading them. Anyway, Im sending this book in for a signature series. Will a clean help this? IT already looks good, but for $10 Im willing to do a press anyway. But will the clean remove the odor?
Only asking because already googled and and it says this can effect the grade. While it's not a big value book, it is important to me. Favorite character in first major cover appearance. And I even have that tattooed on me
Its a Magik #4 from 1984 and the cover artist Bret Belvins is doing a signing.
I just came across JLA Avengers that I had signed by George Perez in 2012 at my first con. Should I have them authenticated/graded?
It’s nothing crazy, but it’s special to me!
I posted a couple of months ago that I feared my first ever submission to CGC would be effected by the banana-gate scandal - https://www.reddit.com/r/CGCComics/s/GdOi9QLj51
While many members of this sub warned that this fiasco was still ongoing, some tried to reassure me that this was only a problem effecting Modern books and that my Golden Age comic should be fine. Others tried to insist the problem had already been solved.
Yesterday I went to pick up my submission at the CGC offices in London and it was NOT fine. It was bent with a big wave going through it.
When I pointed this out, they tried to convince me otherwise by pointing at the face of the comic saying it was flat. Then after I put my foot down they mumbled half heartedly about warping in transport due to the heat in Florida, but didn’t even finish their sentence because they obviously realised how stupid it sounded.
My words were something like: “This is unacceptable. This book cost me over £100. I brought it to you because it is very fragile and I wanted to take care of it and preserve it, and you’ve sat in on a boulder and locked it in a box. It makes me want to cry.”
They told me “It’s not damaged”. As if words plucked out the sky somehow account for real physical evidence and examination.
They then kindly said they could send it back to get it redone for no extra fee. Which I accepted (not that I seemed to have any other option apart from to take it as it was).
I was so flustered that I stupidly didn’t take time to examine the front and spine for damage and didn’t take any pictures (although I do have extensive pictures of the comic before submission).
I get the feeling it’s going to come back again with banana issues (more or less) as I’ve seen others online who have returned their banana books for re-slabbing only to have them come back worse.
If it doesn’t come back perfectly flat I’m going to inform them that as a UK citizen I know my consumer rights and that I will go through every avenue available to enforce them. I will refuse to pay and explain that due to their negligence the comic needs to be taken out the holder either by them or myself immediately.
Disgusted and heartbroken.
So I have a modern book that after a sig series was graded at 8.0. I guess I would need to send it to cgc for a press and regrade to keep the yellow label?
So I found a NM Superman #75 first printing probably at least a 9.4 with pressing easily a 9.8 at my LCS for $5 signed by Dan already I was thinking of sending it in to the Dan and Brett signing and just having it double signed by Dan. So that I can get the Signature series Label but I’m not sure what do you all think?
I apologize if this is not the correct sub for my questions but it was the closest I could find.
I'm not a professional collector but want to send some magazines for grading. There are 21 magazines weighing aroung 6.5kg (14.5 lbs) in total, without the packaging. I also paid for the small CGC membership which gives a 10% off.
My questions are:
Would the above be too much weight? If so, do I break it in 2 packages and how would I print 2 packing slips on one payment?
The site says if I use USPS or Fedex-UPS, the address differs. Because I'm in Canada, if I want to use Chit Chats what would be the address that I would need to send it to? Chit Chats sends mail-packages to the US and then USPS handles them from there. In your opinion, what mail carrier is best for sending packages to CGC?
I tried to buy the large shipping kit from CGC site but the page is not available. I've seen how to pack them securely and I'm confident I can manage it but do I write "Raw books inside" or "Fragile" on the box?
Thank you for any help and if you have any great advice, I would appreciate it!
Grader's notes say "multiple finger bend right center of front cover." Glad I paid for a pressing.
Has CGC current turnaround stopped anyone from sending books in? Vintage current turnaround is 115. I decided to hold off on sending mine in. The quick turnaround time was nice why it lasted
Got this for under £25, very old slab (2002 I think)
Had this raw since 2017 and jump at the opportunity of getting it signed and graded! Honestly can’t believe it came back as a 9.8!
If sent to CGC to rehold, could it get a signature series label? Or does it need a total resubmission??
I had a copy of killing joke signed by Brian Bolland this weekend - but I managed to smudge the signature as it was still wet. Will this still be able to get graded? He also signed on the first page which I didn't want to get graded. Would I have to get both signatures graded so they dont mark it down as "pen on paper" or soemthing like that.
