CCIEs and Architects - Travel the World?

Hi team,

When I was in college our teacher told us that often, some CCIEs and CCARs do freelance networking work, and travel the world for new projects. He said that you could spend 3 weeks in Brazil, take some time off and then go to Italy for a month or two, and so on...basically it is up to you, depending on what contracts you want to take. I love the idea of traveling and gaining experience and I was wondering if this is accurate, or fantasy?

How could someone with this skill level travel often, when they have a family? Do they alternate between spending weeks/months away from home and then returning home, or can the work lifestyle pay you enough money to bring your wife with you everywhere you go? So I guess the real questions are: is there enough demand for contract work for CCIEs and higher certification levels to travel to other countries, and would they get paid enough to bring their wife with them everywhere they go (hotel, food, other expenses)?
