It has fake eyes but a horn on the end. Iam terrified of caterpillars and maggots(larvae things)
It used to be brown-ish to greenish, but now it's this colour.
Sorry for the blurry pics, but is anyone able to tell what kind of caterpillar this is? It was a lime green color with 2 red spots. Found in New York state
I found this little guy in my room a couple nights ago and decided I wanted to try and look after him. I done some research and found out what kind he is I believe I found the right one. However this is my first time trying to look after a caterpillar and I want to do it right.
I made a tub for him and filled it with an inch of dirt, placed a few sticks in and also put in food it said they would like and he seems to like it and eats a fair amount of it. I’ve covered the tub with a cheese cloth like fabric so they can breathe.
However I found out he may overwinter and I don’t quite fully understand what that means or what it will look like for them specifically and I want to make sure I do everything right. Im hoping someone can explain the steps that I need to do and what they will go through from this stage onwards so I know what to expect and what to do, as well as keeping them happy and healthy. Any help would be appreciated :)
We harvested carrots and the submerged from the pile of carrot greens.
Seen on Oct 27th in the Catskills, Slide Mountain area.
It sounds like they should emerge next spring because they were late in the year, if that's right can I put them in a fridge over winter like I do solitary bees? Would hate to have them come out too early. I hope they're ok.
I moved them from our potted cherry tree sapling when they started walking about looking for a place to pupate, all their feeding was done in the wild. Did offer them some leaves from the tree but they weren't interested. After a couple of days they were both in cocoons.
They're inside some kind of film-looking things too (covered with lines in the second picture) but I guess that's normal!?
