Does it all flow down the river? I know it depends on the flow of the river but should I even attempt to fish a river for carp.
So, there's this carp fishing pond (river gets really wide and slow) I go to, and I've only ever seen the carp snatching things off the surface of the water
They ignore sinking baits (when throwing corn into the water, they seem to not be intrested)
Would a cricket, or grasshopper rigged on a wide gap hook be a good Bait for them? Crickets and grasshoppers float.
Plan is to use the rivers current to stealthily float the grasshopper/cricket untill its right over the carp.
I asked about rigs and I heard to do a hair rig, can I buy them pre built or should I build the rig myself? Can I use corn in a hair rig and what line should I use? I am going for a carp in a lake that looks to be 4 ft. I have also heard just put corn or bread on a size 4-6 hook since this carp likes to go for my top water bass lures
30" and 13lbs
Curious if anyone here has luck with pre-cumming ie chumming the spot you will be fishing the day before. Not sure if that's possible for the Brits, but in the States I find it makes the bite start a lot faster. If I chum the previous day I usually catch one within 15 minutes. I might even try doing it 2 days in a row since there is a spot 5 minutes from my house. Anyone else try this?
I have been bass and sunfish fishing at my late great aunt's house and there has been a massive carp that has been really trying to eat my lures. I have a 9 foot medium spinning rod for catfish, will that work for it? What presentations should I try.
I went back to the pond and tried for carp for 3 hours, I had one blow up on a whopper plopper while my carp rods were out but they wouldn’t eat corn or bread, HOW DO YOU CATCH THESE THINGS
So did a little fishing competition yesterday. I mainly fish with carp fisherman from the UK. I'm American. I've never really carp fished before until I moved to Thailand. They alwaysssss use what I would call a normal hook.
But I read somewhere Americans use sort of a circle hook, not quite sea fishing hook. So I ordered these "carp king" hooks online. And decided to try them. Good lord they worked incredibly. I never missed a single bite and every hook up was perfectly corner of the mouth.
Am I missing something? Of course the englishmen were like no no no.
I can post picture of the difference if my rambling doesn't make sense. But what does everyone use for hooks?
Left normal right more circle
My net is from 2007 and still doing really well. Not sure who's it is as its probably a rebranded 42" X2 or NGT labeled for a now defunct carp tackle shop here in US. The handle is fine and has what I would assume to be an aluminum spreader block but the mesh is starting to tear in a few spots. No dry-rot but its not going to last forever.
What are some of the better nets you have had experience with? What about just the mesh replacement? Are there any nets with really small openings?
Hello, I'm from Czech Republic, where catch & release of carp is normal and very commonly practiced. And fishing shops are in every village. I've spent my youth fishing on czech waters with license, but had no time for it later due to work.
I'm for work reasons living in germany now and have never had time to think about fishing, but I decided to look into it and apparently, catch & release in germany is illegal / banned, you are allowed to only catch for food and officially you need license even on private waters (not 100% sure about this one).
In czech you also need license obviously, but that's for public waters, for private fishing ponds/lakes, you can pay a fee to fish (catch & release, usually carp or other bigger fish). I used to fish on these private ponds later when I did not have time to renew my license and it was a lot of fun, since these ponds are seeded with fish specifically for catch & release purposes.
How is it in other countries in EU?
What do you guys think about this?
I'm personally quite stunned about this regulation as it's opposite to what I'm used to, considering how similar the fish & waters are in germany/czech republic.
She hated it
yesterday I went carp fishing with a 50gr terminal, at the third cast the 0.30mm nylon broke and I lost everything. obviously the terminal was braided but on the reel I had the 0.30 nylon.
Why asking the weight of a fish, when you can measure it yourself. Its not the most expensive and biggest piece of material, to carry with you to the bank. A luggage scale, a scale they sell in the fishshop, for +-10€, you have one. Asking people to guess the weight of a fish based on a photo, why? Measure it yourself, post a picture of the fish with the weight YOU measured.
And also...holding the fish while standing up, without a hookmat, above concrete/rocks/etc, stop doing that! On your knees, holding it as low as possible, above a hookmat!
Will these hooks work fine for doing a plain hair rig without shrink tube etc? If not what would you recommend?
Thanks

Baitcaster Canadian here! Got this 27lb4oz common this morning off the dock at my local pond. Beats my previous best by almost 10lbs!
which spod rod would you recommend for casting 100-150m ?
Got a nice hardfighting one again this morning on the Flyrod. Was a early morning feed in 5 ft water (07:10 pickup) Chased her for probably 7 minutes and finally got her to pick up after numerous presentations. Visibility was not good. Probably 1 to 2 foot visibilty so it was very difficult to determine where her head was and the fly had a bit of drift while going down so had to figure out the drop as well.
Not really “fly fishing” as I was using a nightcrawler, but quite a fight on an 8wt fly rod!
Wish the best of luck to everybody fishing this weekend. Hope you got beter weather the us. Cheers!
For context I live in the US.
