Having a hell of a time finding a car for my kid with a $4600 budget. This came up and at first the listing said it had a clean title. At the dealership they said it was a mistake and it’s salvage. Sounded a bit like bs to me, but I did see they updated the listing today after we looked at it and it now says rebuilt.

The guy showed me the Carfax and said it was totaled just due to hail, but it also shows the minor rear end damage. I’m confused because in 2019 it mentions rear end damage two times within a month. Is this likely the same instance?

I’m also confused about the odometer and some of the things it says there. The fact that it has had a bunch of owners scares me too.

I get that this is a 20 year old car and I’m not expecting perfection. I have driven salvaged vehicles for years. My uncle used to purchase them and do the body work himself and they were always great. But when you have no idea what has gone on with the vehicle, that’s a different story.

It seemed to drive fine when we drove it and we didn’t see any leaks, but Idk. I’m desperate to find something somewhat decent under $5000, or I wouldn’t consider this.

Hello, I am looking at purchasing the 2022 Tesla Model 3. The carfax shows 2 owners. The 2nd half of the car shows, "Dealer took title of this vehicle while it was in inventory". The first owner drove to 9,670 miles.

This is all under Owner 2: It shows new owner reported (2 owner) on 12/22/2023. On 1/30/2024 at 9,670 miles it was serviced at AutoNation. On 3/21/2024 it shows "Vehicle Purchase Reported" in Montana. The vehicle now where I am purchasing is in Texas. On 3/26/2024, it shows title issued or updated in Montana with 24,012 miles with "Dealer took title of this vehicle while it was in inventory".

Does this not look extremely weird or concerning? If not, can someone explain to me please? How such a huge mileage jump 1/30/2024 to 3/26/2024? What's the "Dealer took title of this vehicle while it was in inventory". I am not purchasing it from AutoNation either.

I had my vehicle serviced and I checked my vehicles history on Carfax, however some of the information seems to be missing.

For example, the auto repair shop billed me for a changed battery, but on CarFax instead of saying that the battery was changed it just says “battery/charging system checked.”

The auto repair shop also did a carbon filter service on my car and Carfax did not list that information at all.

I just wanted some advice on whether or not the site is reliable because of the discrepancies and inconsistencies in the information I received.

Do I have the ability to prevent any CarFax subscriber (body shop, dealership, etc.) from reporting anything on CarFax, if I request them not to? What are my rights over the control of what is reported about my vehicle?

The reports shows several TOTAL VEHICLE LOSS reports. I think some or all of these are the same damage with several different reporting entries. Here is what is listed

It shows the first entry was reported 4/13/2022 - TOTAL LOSS VEHICLE, left rear damage, vehicle disabled and towed

The second one is 5/5/2022 - TOTAL LOSS VEHICLE, title transferred to insurance company

The third is again 5/5/2022 - TOTAL LOSS VEHICLE, damage disclosure report 59,347 miles

Then it shows the heading for Owner 3

They first entry on 11/28/2022 is again TOTAL LOSS VEHICLE, new owner reported, damage disclosure reported, claim paid and transferred to insurer

Then after several normal maintenance records it lists one on 5/23/2023. TOTAL LOSS VEHICLE, damage disclosure reported, claim paid and transferred to insurer

Given the different notes under the TOTAL LOSS VEHICLE I think this is all one incident and the second and subsequent reports are all just disclosures. Has anyone seen this before?

I am asking the current owner for more details. I know that sometimes relatively small damage can result on total loss. Especially on an inexpensive car.

New dealer/ owner in AZ. registers vehicle 10/26/23 with no mileage recorded on CARFAX report. Dealer /owner has vehicle serviced in AZ on 11/3/23 with 57,748 miles. Then 7 days later AZ dealer-owner updates title and vehicle has 51,835 miles.

Experian report issued from CARAMAX is clear of any of this info. How should i proceed if id find id like to purchase vehicle. Thanks

I am in the process of buying a used car (2012 Lancer with only 69,000km) however, the dealer told me that it was written off by the previous owners insurance, and he was able to fix it. Despite it being written off, the carfax he showed me states that the car has “normal branding”.

Is it possible for a car to have normal branding if it was written off? The car comes with safety certificate, I took it for a test drive and had no issues.

Any opinions are greatly appreciated! Don’t want to be ripped off or getting into something shady.

Hey everyone! I am considering buying a used 2021 Corolla this week with 68k miles on it. Asking price is $17,000. Would appreciate your thoughts on what I found on the carfax report.
According to the carfax report it was registered as a commercial vehicle after it was bought. There is no servicing record at all for the first 17k miles. Around 17k miles the report shows regular oil changes/maintenance every 8,000 miles or so.
Thoughts on this? Would this gap of approx. 17k miles put you off from buying it? Also the oil changes have been every 8-9k miles, which I think is a bit more than is usually advised?
