How to make seeds with thinner shells?

Last run my buddy made some seeds and some of them had shells that were kinda thick and required extra work to sprout. Anything he can do during the seed run grow to keep the seeds smaller and shells thinner? Like less light, feeding differently, etc. Or is it pretty much just dependent on genetics?

Reg X Fem outcome

Hi there,

I’m having a bit of a hard time finding answers to what I believe to be pretty basic breeding stuff so if someone’s willing to help, here I go :

Female from feminised X Pollen from reversed female = feminised seeds, right ?

Female from reg X Male from reg = regular seeds, that I have no doubt about

But now

Female from feminised X Male from reg = regular or feminised seeds ?

I have a couple « breeding » projects or more like pollen chucking for my own pleasure of crossing strains I like. And I would probably enjoy going through the whole « natural » process of breeding with regular seeds only but unfortunately, some of the strains I’d like to breed with are unavailable in regular form. After doing some research, it seems that it’s not inherently wrong to select a keeper from feminised seeds if the strains used in that cross are sexually stable. But from what I understand, it may be trickier to keep that plant for a very long time, am I right ?

Now, aside from potential sexual stability issues, would you guys consider that feminised seeds will always be inferior in some aspects due to the lack of male genes ? I’m thinking taste, potency, vigor…

Keep in mind that I’m not claiming anything, I’m a beginner but I’m showing a lot of interest. Sometimes things can be a bit difficult to understand especially when there’s a lot of nuance involved and different points of view.

Have a great day and thanks a lot 🙏

Purple Lemon Thai mom, Kali Mist x Garlic Pickle Dad

Chucked some pollen from my loudest male to my loudest female.

I’m just experimenting right now but I was able to get 30 seeds or so from brushing pollen on one branch.

Zoap reversal

I posted a little bit ago asking for help with this girl that wouldn't flip. She kept showing pistils so I sprayed more frequently to try to get it to stop 😆. Didnt work. As soon as I stopped spraying she became a he. And I mean fast. After about 36 hours I started seeing more gonad, less strife. About a week after I stopped spraying her balls are starting to swell and multiply.

Moral of the story: I think it needed a break from the spray. More was not better in this case.

This pollen saving method sound okay?

Hello stoners, I’m new to this sub, so hopefully this isn’t a redundant question here… but I’ve been growing on and off for the past two decades or so. Yet all of my attention has been towards utilizing female plants (for bud and clones)… I haven’t been crushing it with grows in that time period, but one or two here and there, every couple of years. I’ve collected a nice little box of seeds over the years and have recently gotten back into growing (nothing crazy, just a few small plants). Anyhow, I’ve always wanted to do my own crosses and try and make something unique to my personal preferences. Anyhow, I have some Red Diesel I’ve been growing for the past year or so. It’s not the best diesel plant in the world, but it has a lot of good qualities , including the distinct skunky and sour nose. It’s a decent pheno and I want to try and keep it around. I also have a male and female Malawi Thai that I recently started. The male has a nice Juicy Fruit Thai smell going on and it has me itching for a cross. Even though I haven’t put the male under reduced hours of light, it’s been throwing bananas here and there… and they are defending dropping pollen (sometimes).

The process in question… ————————————- So I made a little foil bib around the stem of the male, when the sacks were about to bust open. Two sacks opened and I had a nice little (very little mind you lol) pile of yellow pollen. I then flattened out the foil into a square, then placed this into a clean, small zippered bag (nickel bag type). Then put this into a small Rubbermaid container with a small layer of damprid. I then capped it up and wrapped some Cling wrap around the edges and popped it into the freezer.

Okay, so I won’t be needing this pollen for at least a few weeks-months…. Does this preservation method sound like a decent approach for short term storage? I still have the male going and could get more pollen later if need be. But i really like the idea of using a paint brush or whatever and only pollinating a small, lower bud or two. As opposed to just letting it ride in the bloomroom. I feel extra seeds wouldve alright, but a whole crop seeded up would be a bit discouraging for this run.

Sorry for the long post, But I wanted to get the whole picture painted here. Does what I described sound like a decent approach to take for preserving pollen? It wouldn’t be stored for anything longer than 3 months

Thanks for any help and insight you could shed my way <3

-Dog

Using STS to Rev females

I recently did a test run with 3 girls. Any good step by step guide on best way from 1st day of sts to harvest? I may be looking in the wrong spots but not a lot of intel on breeding bc my girls produced like no pollen. Which is expected to be less. So many questions like

  • feed regular flower nutes?
  • how dry during the days leading up to pollen release?
  • do you dry before extracting pollen.. for storage?

Maybe that's it
