Which similar show should I watch after?

I’ve seen californicaton 3 times and entourage 3 times as well.

Are the kind of shows that bring me a smile after a break up, well Californication is a bit more sad and melancholic than entourage tho.

I’ve hear ballers is good too, but doesn’t get to the same level as the other I just mentioned.

I’ve watched how to make it in America, and it got a bit the essence but not as good of course.

Any other suggestions???

Faith's age/timeline doesn't make sense.

So, Maggie Grace is 40 (same age as me, only 4 days difference), which means she was 30 when season 6 came out (2013). Yet, Faith was supposed to be this legendary groupie, I'm sorry MUSE, to the aging rock stars from back in the day. Rockstars who seem to fit the 1980's or early 90s era timeline-wise, which would make her way underage for that.

Is this just an example or the writer(s) being a bit "out of time" themselves and writing for a world that didn't really exist any longer? Was the character Faith supposed to be older than she seemed?

I don't know. Just happened to be watching "Dead Rock Stars," and it never made sense to me.

Finally finished the series.

After watching the first episode about 10 times & not getting through it with interest I finally stuck through it and finished all 7 seasons. I am completely surprised and utterly surprised about how this is now the best television show I have ever watched. I loved it. Funny as hell with still maintaining a great storyline. I wish they still made shows like this.

How similar do you think Hank Moody is to David Duchovny’s real life/personality?

I always wondered if he was basically playing an exaggerated version himself and his sex addiction. The acting felt particularly natural, and somewhat unrelated but damn the chemistry between the actors is unreal - unlike anything I’ve ever seen in a show. It’s like him and Runkle and Karen and Marcy truly had been friends for ages.

Anyway, thoughts on the original question?

Karen Gets Mad over the Strangest Things

Karen only seems to get mad at Hank for accidents or decisions he made prior to their relationship/rekindled relationships.

In Season 2, she gets mad at him for going down on the wrong woman when he's a little drunk and high and got turned around in a stranger's house.

And then in that same season breaks it off with him because he may have fathered a child prior to them getting back together. The mother of this child isn't going to be with Hank. Some other guy is going to raise the kid. So why is Karen so upset and breaks it off?

In Season 7, she denies Hank the opportunity to get back together because apparently he fathered a son with the woman Hank was seeing just before Karen, and that woman never told Hank. He didn't know about the kid until just recently (relatively speaking), he abandoned his relationship with Julia for Karen back them. Why does it bother Karen so much?

Why do paternity cases that happened when they weren't together bother her so much?

Is the author of “The Artist Within” based on Rick Rubin?

I know Lew Ashby is based on Rick but the author looks and talks like Rick so much and pretty much has the same philosophies haha

Becca was poorly casted and Madeleine Martin should not have been selected.

Please don’t downvote me for this because it’s just my opinion and I respect any contrary opinions. When I think of Californication, I think of it at a near perfect show with very minor flaws. I do think Becca was poorly casted for many reasons.

She does not look like Hank and Karen whatsoever nor is good looking like either of them which is actually really important in a show like this where looks are important. She has black hair while Hank has light sandy brown hair and Karen has dirty blonde hair. Her face doesn’t look anything like David or Natascha (Hank and Karen).

She had a monotone and borderline annoying voice. She cannot really express her emotions well in very serious scenes.

Fuck what I think though. What do you all think? I am not coming for Madeleine Martin at all. She is a decent actress but I do not think she was meant for this show. What are your thoughts?

Unpopular opinion: Karen never loved Hank

Karen loves the idea of having a perfect Hank but she never loved him. She loved him in private but always judged him infront of others. Even in the flashbacks she didn't think he was good enough.

If it weren't for Becca, they both might have left eachother out of their lives.

Just started watching again!

It’s great to see a show with proper old school humour! This show wouldn’t get passed the Pilot these days and its so disappointing! People have the ability to create a show like this these days but they’re too scared to even try

Really appreciated the little nod to Kurt Cobain in season 2 episode 10.

I'm a big Nirvana fan, so this was a nice touch.

What the fuck is up with these Pedo Jokes/statements in this show?

I love the show. I've only seen seasons 1-4 because those were the intended start and finish.

But what the fuck is wrong with some of the characters talking about stuff like "an ass of a 10 year old boy"

Stupid story about my coworkers

It was years ago when my some of my coworkers got into the show. I was way behind because I didn't have showtime. However seen some of the episodes and was intrigued. One of the guys that was into it, liked to mess with me by acting a little homosexual. One day he was back at his weirdness when touched me strangely and said "Medini, always gets the weenie!" I replied with "The fuck dude!"

I think roughly 4 years passed and by that point I was living overseas. I was sitting on my couch, finally getting caught up with the show when I heard Runkles temporary boss, Sue, say her iconic line. "Sue Collini always gets the weenie." I sat there shaking my head while thinking "so that's where he got that shit from."

I texted him about it and he just started laughing.

Anyone else hate Tyler and wish he fucking died on the show?

First of all, how does one ugly fucking Amish looking dude have this much confidence? Second of all, Karen says he's like Hank... He's nothing like Hank. Hank isn't an asshole for all of the criticism he gets. Honestly, if I was the writer I'd have Tyler get fucking executed by some gang in LA. Can't stand him.

People on this sub hate Levon. I'm sorry, but I'd take Levon over Tyler. Levon is funny to laugh at. And I'd rather see his stupid ass than some fucking long-haired dweeb that looks like some propaganda for why eugenics would be good lmfao.

Californication is a caricature

I see videos on the internet explaining "why Hank Moody is soo sexy" and they all are recorded by man. I saw also people telling that he "knows women". Did we saw the same show? Hahaha.
The very David Duchovny once sayid that the show is about a FANTASY that pass in a world where "writers can be as famous as rockstars", which is not real! This is not a bad critic, for me, this make the show even more interesting, becouse now I can see the distorted view of reality that much man have about sexuality, relatioships and depressing. Hank is not an example, unless you are search for a bad, dangerous and depressing one.

The screenplay is so well writed in that way that, sometimes, hank itself seems to get surprised how he aways try to spil everything but, in the end, things go well for him.

Do you agree? Or just like me discovered that today?

What do you think are the reasons why Californication isn't as popular as it should be?

I find myself thinking about this all the time, because to me, there really isn't any show quite like Californication. If I could go back in time to relive the experience of watching the show for the very first time, I would (and that's not an exaggeration). To answer my own question, I'm guessing it could've had something to do with the platforms that Californication is streamed on... A lack of reach to the masses? I dunno, but I would love to hear you guys' thoughts on this.

Hank or Karen: Whose fault is it?

Im sure this has been discussed, I know it has in my house. I am rewatching the show and I have a much stronger feeling this time that it is mostly Karen’s fault that her and Hank’s relationship is the way it is. I’m in the second season right now but I can’t see my opinion chaing much from what I remember.

Why does she keep expecting something different from him? Is it really his fault that he slept with a bunch of people when they were apart? She leaves him because of things he did when they were apart. He cares about her a lot, probably much more than she cares about him. Am I wrong? Give me reasons to like her more.

Your favorite song from the show?

It’s been a while since I watched the show. I remember during watching back then I discovered some good songs but now I can’t recall any. Except of course Rocket Man, now everytime I listen to it I feel like I’m back to the finale of season 3.

God Hates Us All Book

David Duchovny signed 2 God Hates Us All books at a comic com for me a while ago. He told me that he hasn’t ever signed one since he didn’t write them and someday they would be worth a lot. How much are they worth?

No interest of selling, just wanna know. (This is also my first post on Reddit 😬)

What's your favorite Hank quote?

"Regrets are for pussies. Shit happens, deal with it.", "I probably won't go down in history, but I will go down on your sister." and "I'm fine, I'm disgusted with my life and my self. But I'm not unhappy about that. How are you?" are some of my favorites.

“I had to go to one of those old man newsstands to pick up a copy. Why do they still have those?” “What, old men or newsstands?”

An exchange that just popped into mind for some reason.
