Daycare

Has anyone sent their toddlers to first steps learning center? We've had amazing luck with wee care, but looking for something closer. Is it comparable?

Inconsiderate driver spotted!

Spotted along Fairview and Walkers Line driving westbound this inconsiderate driver was on his phone while driving. Phone literally in his hand raised at his eye level while swerving in and out of the bike lane during rush hour. Zero attention on the road.

Be careful folks!

Burlington would like to be excluded from a vacant home tax in Halton Region

I so disagree with this. Why walk away from $6 million dollars - and it was decided basically with no discussion.

Burlington would like to be excluded from a vacant home tax in Halton Region, councillors decided Monday morning.

During a Committee of the Whole meeting at city hall, councillors and the mayor quickly passed a recommendation that city CFO Craig Milar to advise the region that the city would like to be excluded from by-laws that implement a vacant home tax in the municipality.

There are approximately 265 vacant homes in Burlington, as of 2022. The combined revenue from the tax on the four municipalities in Halton would bring in an estimated $6.1 million for the region.

Only about one third of the vacant homes in Burlington are anticipated to be sold or rented in the next decade.

Councillors only spent a few moments discussing the matter before it was passed. It will go to council on Tuesday, Sept. 17 for final approval.

Halton Waldorf School

We are thinking of enrolling our daughter to Waldorf School. Does anybody have any feedback about the school? Good, bad, things we should be aware of? It felt a bit culty and expensive but we do like the methodology. Also being a smaller school we believe it can be better for the little ones and reduce discrimination cases and bullying.TIA

Family of coyotes in Central Park

Spotted this family in the Central Park the other day. The pup is clearly inexperienced and still learning the trade of hunting (they were hunting a squirrel).

As stunning as they are, please be careful with you smaller dogs and stop letting your cats roam outside.

Granite backsplash install questions

Hey all,

I'm going to have solid granite slab backsplash (and counter) installed soon.

My question is, for the price of the slab, should I move electrical outlets to under the uppers? No side walls that won't have granite, so that's not an option.

If anyone has light granite backsplash with electrical outlets in original place, are you okay with it or are there regrets?

Just in the figuring out process (no contractor). Is it in the code that I can/can't put an outlet in the side of an island?

I'd like to know what an electrician can do before I bother them with a million questions.

Recommendations for waxing?

Hi pals! I’ve never been waxed in my life but looking to get my underarms waxed for two weddings in October (11th + 18th).

Looking to get recommendations on where to go, I have no prior knowledge or anything to compare to so hopefully you all have someone you like!

Side question: can I expect the wax from the first wedding to last to the next? I basically stopped shaving over a year ago because it gives me irritation, and normally I have no issue going sleeveless with hair, but I’d rather avoid having to touch up with a razor if the first wax doesn’t hold up till the second wedding.

Thanks pals!

Why have so many kids

People having mega kids then complain they have no money...

I watch this lady in my building have her 3/4 year old carry a heavy infant while she unloads car.

Accident waiting to happen... a toddler carrying an infant. Poor toddler He looked terrified and over loaded.

She has 4 kids in dinky apartment.

If you cant afford much dont have 4!!! Then they all struggle !

Its Burlington.

Looking for affordable landscaper/gardener

Hi everyone, We bought our first home this year. It is a small townhouse with a small back yard, and a tree base (with soil) in the front. The house had been a rental property and the garden was ill maintained. We are looking for an affordable landscaper/gardener to help us set up a low-maintained garden that we can take over and maintain in the long run. Any suggestions and how much of a budget that we need to set aside? Thank you!

Used car dealers

Hello y'all.

I'm looking to trade in my vehicle for a used car and looking for some places nearby. I've already gone through the history on this sub and have written down previous suggestions. I'm hoping that there might be more suggestions that weren't mentioned in the previous inquiries.

So far, I've written down;

Ecky's, Better Way, ACEN, Fosters, Good Cars Only, JP Motors and a few actual dealerships.

Thanks in advance.

Permit Delays

A neighbour of mine had to wait three years for a permit to change a car port to a garage and move the front door. The estimate to do the work went up 3x compared to the original quote. They will not be able to do the work. Anyone else having issues? https://www.insidehalton.com/news/council/may-take-years-to-recover-burlington-business-owner-said-it-took-129-days-several-resubmissions/article_65807e61-74a0-50bd-829e-6920372aaac9.html
