I made ratemyprofessors but for classes: Rate My Courses

Hi Everyone,

I have been working for some time now on this website ratemycourses.io and I am really excited to share it with you.

You can use this to look at reviews and get advice on courses you're interested in. You can also sort courses by difficulty, usefulness and the overall rating from reviews made by other students. I think if enough people start using it regularly. it's going to be essential when you're choosing your electives or just to get advice on courses you will be taking.

Lastly, filtering and sorting courses is only gonna be useful and accurate if there are a lot of reviews, so please go ahead and leave some reviews to courses you've taken or are currently taking.

Also, please dm me if you have an idea on how I can let more students know about this. And if anyone is interested in writing an article about this dm me!

Enjoy!!

Im trying to submit my Verification Requirements but it's not telling me where to submit the documents.

I was emailed by financial aid from buff state that I was in some 30% or something to complete verification forms. They're requiring my Parent and Student Federal Tax Return along with the verification worksheet but the page im looking at under eligibility where I received the pdf of the doc to fill out doesn't have a place to submit the forms. Every information site only says to "submit" them but doesn't tell me where?

I lost 60 dollars :(

I go to buff state and l've made new friends here that I really love. And since everyone's going for thanksgiving I thought "hey I should have a Friendsgiving" yknow just to show everyone how much I appreciate them. I only told my roommate so we were gonna split the funds to buy and make the food for everyone in our hallway. So today I went out with my last 60 dollars because l'm a broke college student and went to go look for ingredients but I went back inside to grab a jacket cuz it's cold asf. I checked to see if the money was still in my back pocket and poof..gone. Im literally so fucking sad about it because I genuinely wanted to plan something nice. Idek what to tell my roommate anymore. That was literally the only money I had to my name and I can't even ask my mom for anything cuz she just lost her job. oh and I also failed my chem quiz so. All in all a very terrible fucking day

Will a withdrawal on my transcript hurt my chances of being accepted for transfer?

Hello,

I am currently a student at the University of Pittsburgh, and am considering withdrawing from a couple courses due to personal reasons. However, I still want to transfer out to Buff State after the end of the fall semester. My question is, will a withdrawal on my transcript hurt my chances of being accepted for transfer? And will multiple withdrawals have the same affect or is that worse for my situation?

Study Opportunity

Hi! I’m a graduate student working on my Master’s project. My teammates and I have designed a sound-based virtual coworking platform and we're looking to evaluate it with undergrads and graduate students who have experience visiting public spaces with others around (libraries, coffee shops, etc.) to study or do their work.

If you're interested in volunteering, you will participate in a two-part research study. The two sessions will take place on separate days, and each session will last up to 1.5 hours max. You will be asked to complete three different tasks while using the virtual coworking space and a comparable system. With your permission, we will also ask you to take a screen recording and screenshots while using our system for a small portion of the session. At the end, you will answer questions about your experience with using our system.

We expect to enroll up to 20 participants for this study. Participants will be compensated $15 for the first session and $20 for the second session, totaling $35 for the entire study. Compensation will be provided in the form of an Amazon gift card. If you or someone you know is interested in participating in this research project, please complete this 3-minute eligibility survey: https://gatech.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5yCsTWmulgjXkWi

Posting here because I thought some folks may be interested in earning an Amazon gift card while helping fellow students with a project. We're trying to get feedback from students from many different regions (not just around our school) so that our data is representative of students across the country.

[Academic] Survey on College Students Perceptions of Individual Privacy and Trust in Digitized Contact Tracing (Undergraduate College Students Only)

This is IRB approved research.

Approved by Moderators.

Dear prospective participant,

We would like you to participate in a research survey that is being led by Clemson University’s Analytics and Data Lab. Our survey gauges college students on their perceptions of individual privacy and privacy of location and space and how it relates to trust when adopting an institution led digitized contact tracing application.

  • You need to be an undergraduate college student at a two-year or four-year college in the United States.

  • This survey will take 10 to 15 minutes to take.

  • At the end of the survey is a sign up for optional follow-up interviews that will be led by students of our Analytics and Data Lab.

  • Your survey answers remain anonymous outside of the Analytics and Data Lab and will be used internally by us to create a big picture of college students’ point of view on individual location privacy when it comes to a digitized contact tracing application, something that is extremely important in today’s day and age considering the on-going COVID-19 epidemic.

    • The only personal identifiable information being collected will be your gender, ethnicity, the college you are currently attending, current class standing, and major.

The survey will open September 1st, 2020, and close October 1st, 2020, or when we reach 200 participants.

Please let us know if you have any questions and again thank you so much.

Community college student looking to transfer and dorm next fall

Anything I should know, such as the culture and atmosphere of the campus, especially the dorms? Also, does a 3.29 GPA give me a good enough chance of getting accepted?

Optional Student Survey Form

Hi all,

I represent a trio of college students who are interested in getting some input on the main issues that plague college students pre/post graduation. It would be awesome to gain some insight and feedback from you guys through the form down below.

This is a completely optional form and we are using this only to get information on the very broad demographic of college students.

Thanks in advance!

Article on the Fifty Years since the shooting of students at Kent State.

Hello Buffalos. I want to share this article with you all about the 50th anniversary of the shooting of protesting students at Kent State in Ohio in 1970. I think its a timely piece in regard to the attitude of young people against war and inequality that was the driver of protests in the late 60s.

Masters in Data Science and Analytics Questions

Hi I am currently looking to apply to BuffState for a Masters in Data Science and Analytics. I saw somewhere that this could be an online program and wondered if that is true? I also want to know how good the program is? Is anyone currently in this program? I am not very good at standardized tests like the SAT and GRE's so I was also interested in this program because it does not require that. Is this an easy program to get into? Currently I have like a 2.9 (i hope i can get this to a 3.0 soon) and I am going to SUNY Binghamton for Linguistics but have an associates in Computer Information Systems. Any questions that could be answered would be appreciated. Recommendations for other good programs similar to this is also appreciated! Thank you!

Anyone who's taken a summer course at buffalo state, are they generally "easier" or graded less harshly?

I'm considering taking Org. Chem 2 or a psychology class this summer but am worried about taking five months worth of schoolwork and taking it in about a month. A course in a month won't be easy by any means but do professors have more mercy with grading or possibly less homework assignments with a summer course? I still need to work while in school and i need the credits but am worried i might need to take a month off of working in order to have enough time to study and do homework.

Thanks for any insight.

NSE - study away in the U.S. or Canada next year!

Buff State undergrads can study away AFFORDABLY for a semester or year through the National Student Exchange. Choose from over 160 campuses across the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, or U.S. Virgin Islands. NSE is affordable...most students continue to pay Buff State tuition and only pay for room/board, books, and course fees at their host campus. Some students pay in-state tuition to their host campus, which is sometimes even cheaper than Bing tuition. Learn more at NSE.org.

Applications are being accepted now for the 2020/2021 school year. Contact Melissa for more information: hollanmr@buffalostate.edu.

Tips for incoming freshmen for fall 2020 semester

I’m a high school senior right now and have been thinking about attending Buffalo State in the fall of this year because the tuition is cheap, and the location of the campus being conveniently close to Wegmans, Tops, Entertainment, and many other things. I live in a suburb of Syracuse (a city in central NY about 2.5 hours east of Buffalo on I-90) I don’t have a car, or tons of money at my disposal. So I HAVE to live on campus. But I’ve heard so really bad things about buff state’s dorm housing that’s petrifying to say the last and almost makes me not want to attend the school all together. For example, Crowded dormitories, appalling conditions of the bathrooms, and then the crime. I heard that Armed robberies, Fights, Drug deals, sexual assaults are occurring quite often on campus (mainly at the wee hours of the night). I know from friends and online reports that many of the students that dorm at buff state are people that are from the extremely rough areas of NYC (AKA the hood) and that the “good” students at buff state are mostly all commuters meaning they’re not present on campus when they don’t need to be. I’m not into that lifestyle and to be frank I don’t want to be around these types of people. Similar priced schools like SUNY Alfred state and SUNY Brockport don’t seem to have the issues with crime and crisis with housing. So the question is.. Is living on campus on Buffalo State really that bad?? Or are people just exaggerating. And if so, what are some tips and tricks to avoid this. I’m sure some dorms are better than others, perhaps things at the school changed for the greater good. Just give me some feedback.
