I'm looking to come out there from Asheville this weekend. Are there any open trails in the area for a 3 to 5 mile hike in the woods ?
In the area to help at a local hospital for a couple weeks and am wondering if there is a recommended spot to drive and park with limited walking to view the comet in the west?
We are having a family reunion of sorts in a few weeks. Not many people, maybe 30 in total. All ages. Are there any restaurant recommendations that can provide some sort of catering of heavy appetizers? Self serve.
Last month before Helene, we booked an Airbnb booked for October 18-20. Our host assures us that Bryson City is ready for tourists and the roads will be safe (with a few detours for roads needing repairs). Residents of Bryson City, is it really ready for tourists? As much as we want to go, I will gladly reschedule the trip if we’d be getting in the way at all. My vacation isn’t nearly as important as hurricane relief.
Hi All,
I hate asking this since almost everyone seems to be asking, but I have a trip planned for 10/25-10/27. The main event is the train ride and their website said that the trains have resumed their normal routes.
What cities are safe to get a hotel in that aren't too expensive? I'm hoping for something not super woodsy but I would prefer to use a local place over a chain brand (I know my qualifications are contradictory)
TYIA!!
Hi ya. Native to asheville. I'm wondering if yalls public library will be open tomorrow with wifi. I need to start filing out whatever online .org .govs I guess to salvage what I can. Hello, checking in from the Tampa area. I just visited Bryson City and the surrounding area in June. How is everything over there?
Hey everyone, I know info is in short supply, I would be grateful for any information about the area around Conley’s Creek road in Whittier. Specifically, up the mountain n Williamson road
My four year old daughter is there with her father and stepmom . They are on Franklin grove church road. I have lost all contact to them. Does anyone have any info on that road. I also need to contact them if anyone can email me an emergency service to have them checked in my email is aishamreed1@gmail.com . I’m in Erwin tn and we have been devastated here.
Anyone know how the town of Whittier is doing? It's right by the river as it bends.
Hello All,
I’m going to Bryson City next Wednesday-Sunday. What are the conditions and roads going to be like? Will anything be open? Should we cancel?
Thoughts and prayers to you all. Stay safe.
Thank you,
Hey, so I recently moved here to Bryson City (I’ve never dealt with a flash flood here before) and I know about the flash flood coming in.
I’m worried because if it does flash flood, my car might get swept away since I’m basically in the dab center of Bryson.
Where should I park my car to make sure it’s safe in case of flash flooding? Is near the library good, considering it’s further away from the stream and elevated?
Anyway, thanks!
So I’ve had a little trip to BC planned for a while for this Thursday-Sunday. Obviously the timing is turning out to be pretty terrible based on Helene’s current path. How concerned should I be about potential flooding? We’re staying in town near Bryson City Brewing.
I’m planning my sisters bachelorette party, it’s coming up in the next couple weeks. I still have some gaps in our itinerary. She would really love to go tubing, but they don’t do tubing after Labor Day I’m assuming because it starts to get too cold. Any ideas what else we could do in the afternoon mid September in Bryson City???
I know the title of the post is strange 😂 Plz bear with me. My family and I visited Bryson City in July and road the railroad. When we stopped for lunch, I left the group and walked along the river until it came to a dead end. Cool. As I turned around and headed back the way I had come, I passed a young man (teen to 20s) loaded down with fishing equipment. We mutually nodded hello. Much farther along the walk I stumbled across a wadded up ball of fabric. As the railroad’s whistle was sounding, I snatched it off the ground. They were leaving and I was the last soul onboard. When I sat down, I spread out the fabric to discover a BEAUTIFUL handkerchief with various species of trout. I realized the young man must have dropped it on his walk. 😩 I love it. 😍 I would love to keep it as a memento of our trip. My husband loves to fish and I planned to bring it home as a “thoughtful gift.” 🫣 But alas, my heart knows better. I’m guessing the handkerchief was a present to the young man from a loved one and it would be wrong to keep it. So I am attempting to find its owner. If everyone could share this on FB or social media, I’d love to return it to the young man. I’ll mail it back once I confirm who the rightful owner is. We had a blessed trip in Bryson City, I made so many amazing memories with my elderly father that I will forever cherish…..I hope returning this handkerchief will be one more experience him and I can share. Thanks!
We fell in love with Bryson City when we had a cabin Thanksgiving there a few years back and are interested in a vacation home there. Can anyone recommend a buyer's agent who knows the ins and outs of second-home buyers from out of state?
TIA!
Hey yall! My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Bryson City in March. Looking around at rentals and a lot discuss needing AWD or 4WD vehicles to drive the roads to rentals and such. Just wanting to get an idea of the terrain and if that type of vehicle is a must.. Thanks in advance!
Hi, please suggest me some of your favorite places to take ATVs near Bryson City.
I moved to Bryson City about 3 years ago and absolutely love it here. I’ve visited many businesses and many outdoor locations both in and out of the Park, but I can’t help feeling that I’m missing some hidden gems that only long time locals know about. Anyone willing to throw out some ideas?
I’m also looking for groups in town that have similar interests, maybe a book club or a walking group or just about anything else (investing, puzzles, world events, local sports) I’m quite unsure how to find these groups, if they exist.
Personally I’ve found the Facebook groups for Bryson City to be full of complainers and long time residents lamenting the fact that the city has changed over the past 50 years.
Apologies in advance if I’ve violated and rules for this sub.
Does anyone know of Airbnbs or cabins that are on a lake and have hiking trails within walking distance?
Anybody have recommendations for scenic / not crowded natural places to swim?
We're going to be visiting the area soon, and we'd love to go to Island Park.
I’m going to ride GSMR here in a couple of weeks and am wondering how bad are the closets out that way right now?
Hello all,
I’m planning a trip to explore the natural beauty of Bryson City and the surrounding area in July. Are mosquito’s typically a big issue in the summer? We were wondering if it’s worth postponing a few months.
Thanks!
I was looking at a possible trip to Bryson in the summer months, but various websites that compile crime data make it seem like it's a very high crime area for both property crimes and violent crimes.
Is there any truth to this?
