This is such a typical Brussels thing although it seems like it got even worse. Whatever one may ask, essential services like Hospitals but even small things like cashiers. More than any other place i've lived (Brussels for over 20 years now since late 90s) people are terrible at their job, or do it on purpose for whatever reason. This morning the guy for the appointment arrived to fix the heating. Didn't have a damn clue, he left after 5 min saying that "honestly I have no clue what to do" that is a first for me. Yes I called the company and everything, but this is some major BS. All the older Belgian contractors that worked on my house were easily able to do what they're being paid for. And you can really see that with most of the "new generation" in Brussels, wether its a cashier, nurse, car mechanic, footbal trainer. They're not doing what you ask them to or needs to be done. Dude this morning barely spoke french, no dutch, german english. Absolute disaster in my opinion and you can see it symptomatic for a good portion of Brussels at least.
Say what you want about Belgian roads/infra but the radiators (and their high heat settings) on the trams are next level. 11/10
Woke up to the sound of what sounding like a chanting and rioting crowd through the streets (near Bailli).
I live in the attic so couldn't see out the window as to what was going on, but sounding intense and aggresive.
Any ideas?
A lots of police, road cuts, etc.
Growing my hair out from a middle part to a wolf cut. Need a place that can use scisors and layer the hair, also is able to speak English (because my French is crap and bringing a picture isn't enough). Most places on Treatwell, Tiktok and Instagram don't really have pictures of longer haircuts. Also I'm a broke international student so around 20-40 euros price point pls
I previously created a post regarding "where to meet people" and somehow people started flocking in my DMs because they couldn't find either:
A: a proper place B: people willing to befriend them C: All of the above
So if you're looking to meet random Reddit people to befriend... Then so be it, feel free to DM me, the group will be founded in the morning.
In the meantime, please do avoid putting soda into your beer.
Kindest regards,
A fellow stranger
My partner is about to sign a rental contract and right now I am working in another European Country but will be in Brussels in a few weeks. As she needs to bring this signed rental contract to the bank for the security deposit, would it be an issue if the part for me to sign is blank? Thank you!
Can anyone recommend a good clinic or center for PRP treatment for hair in Belgium or near the Dutch border? I’d love to hear about your experiences if you’ve had it done, and if possible, could you share what the prices were like? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!
Hello there, I've been living in this city for roughly a year and never truly had the time to go out and meet people. If there was one place to just casually chat with strangers, where would that be for you?
Rest assured that beers won't be mixed with cola.
Hi yall In the weekend I drove a rental car and my side mirror hit the mirror of a parked van. I of course stopped and two policemen saw the incident. One of them called the owner and put me in contact with him. While the other officer and i looked at the vans mirror we really couldn’t see any damage. A small crack in the plastic cover but nothing on the mirror itself. It looks like a very old crack.
Now the owner contacted me and proposed we settle this without involving insurance. He wants 300€ to fix it.
Thing is I’m sure he will just put the money in his pocket as there isn’t any damage to the mirror itself. I googled the plastic spare part and you can literally buy it for 20€ online.
I’m a bit left in the dark here. Rental company isn’t helping very much and I don’t understand the French insurance they gave me
What should u do and is this how it’s done here?
Hi!
A couple months ago I posted here looking for more Cineville friends. I often go to Cinematek, Palace, ... other cinemas with friends but sometimes all of my friends are busy and it's always just more fun with someone else.
But just posting "hey does anyone want to join me for x movie tomorrow" on here was a bit impractical, so I've now thought of creating a "Cineville Club" Discord where anyone may join and post if they plan on going to a film for example, and then other people can respond if they want to join or not. Dutch-speaking, sorry, for the simple reason that I only speak Dutch and English.
So: if you have a Cineville Pass, or you go to the cinema often in BXL and would like some company, feel free to join!!
Hello there! Where do the girlies get their nails done in Brussels ? I’m here for two weeks for work and need to renew my gel nails. I don’t want to spend too much money. I live near porte de hal 🙏
Thank you already for your help!
Due to heavy rains today, there have been leaks in my studio. When I moved in, the previous tenant informed me that occasional leaks would occur. I raised this issue with the landlord, who confirmed the problem and explained that roof repairs would be necessary to resolve it. However, the work has not yet been carried out.
The landlord has excused the delay, saying that he applied for subsidies from the Brussels-Capital Region to cover the cost of the repair, but according to him, this procedure has been blocked since the regional elections.
My question is: Is it legal for my landlord to delay necessary repairs due to waiting for subsidies, or is he still obligated to fix the roof promptly, especially since the leaks are causing damage and affecting my living conditions? What can I do as a tenant to ensure the repairs are made without further delay?
There was quite a bit of police there, and traffic was at a standstill.
Hello! I am looking for gynaecologists in Brussels (preferably women - I feel more comfortable) that can speak english, any recommendations? I have CM health insurance and I would like to go to a contracted doctor, so I can get a reimbursement from the insurance. Thank you ;)
How long does faculty screening for application takes for a non EU national ?
I am looking for someone I can pay by the hour to help me with renovations and pay for their time. Doesn’t have to be highly skilled, but can paint a little, help me carry things, help me rip up flooring, etc. Anyone know anybody that offers this service?
Recently I was flying out of Brussels and saw through the planes window a football stadium that was surrounded by a forest, which had a castle inside a lake.
I thought that was a very cool place and want to go see it next time i'm there, but I wasn't able to find anything about it on the internet.
Does anybody know any information about it?
How is the presentation?

Hi everyone, just want to seek your opinion. Is it common for landlords to avoid reimbursement of yearly account of common charges? And is depannages/reparations fee normally included in the common charges? If yes, to what extent?
Long story short, I've just received an annual recap of my common charges for the year 2023-2024. In the end, there's significant amount of money to be reimbursed by my landlord. But, he does seem reluctant to pay this sum of money.
He then reminds me about my previous annual account. In 2022-2023 I had to pay 1200 eur more in addition to my 275 eur monthly common charges. I asked him why so high. Apart from the exorbitant hot water and gas bills, I found 800++ eur fee for depannages and reparations. I tried to clarify about this depannages/reparations fee as I paid 600 eur the previous year. The building has 15 or 16 tenants and having depannages/reparations fee in that amount every year, including this year, is huge. And the yearly account already has 'ascenseur' component as well costing around 200 eur every year! That's why I was wondering what was the fee for.
He didn't give me clear answers about the breakdown of this fee but in the end, I thanked him for finally taking 400 eur out of 800 eur depannages/reparations fee so I did not need to pay 1200 eur in full last year.
This year he seems to indicate that he wants his money back from last year. I am willing to fairly compensate him for that, but I need to know if this depannages and reparations fee is not just some shady stuff that I was unfairly charged with.
Was surprised to find a lot of the museums are closed on Mondays. Is there a reason for this?
Context: From the US and accustomed to museums and stores being open 7 days a week except for holidays.
Also, NOT COMPLAINING, only curious about the difference.
Hi all. Where is the best value place in Brussels for a scale and polish for teeth? Dentist of dental hygienist and how much does it cost? So I get any money back with Partenamut? Thanks
