With an unusually warm climate, Brookings is often the envy of residents of other coastal towns, despite the fact that nearly all Brookings residents under 30 would rather live somewhere else.
Subreddit also covers Harbor, Oregon - an unincorporated community directly adjacent to the south.

Heading to the Brookings this weekend and am curious where’s a good place to grab a bite for a late lunch? Specifically a place with food allergies / sensitivities in mind, as one of us has a gluten- and dairy-free diet.
Thanks.
Hello! My mom, who is 72, lives in Brookings, has for 20 years or so. I'm in Eugene and don't get down often. She found a litter of kittens around her apartments and has been trying to tame them for weeks. She has acclimated them somewhat and has captured two, which she is in the process of acclimating to indoor life... She may keep them depending how things go. But there are two more, and she's spread pretty thin.
Does anyone have experience or resources to help her with this? She says the humane society will only take them if they are tamed and can't help her... I don't know what she based this conclusion on. Around here are a few different programs to at least sterilize and release them.
Thank you so much for any help you can offer.
After coming to Crescent City last year on a wildfire assignment, I decided to relocate to Brookings. I have a job lined up, and I want to spend as much time surfing as possible. I know that 1) the ocean will be a little bit different than Kauai (where I am moving from) and 2) housing can be tough in the area. Marketplace and Craigslist have next to nothing, any other recommendations?
Is there public buses im from brookings and i need to get to madison(Dakota state university)
Looking to play Pickleball. Are there any Pickleball players that I could possibly join? I’ve never played before
Can anyone recommend a competent, reasonably responsive lawyer that deals with estates/probate cases? Doesn’t necessarily need to be located in Brookings, but needs to be licensed in OR. Thanks!
Hey im an international student and i am looking for jobs around brooking area if anyone has any offers pls lemme know
Hello, I’m looking at potentially moving to the Oregon coast from Seattle. I’ll be visiting Brooking for a few days over the week of Labor Day to get a feel of the area and what not. My main motivation for leaving Seattle is that I love being by the water and on the beach. Small coastal towns are my jam. That’s where I want to spend the back end of my years. So my questions:
I’m an open water swimmer. Are there any good spots for open water swimming. Any recommendations?
How are people of color treated? I’m black and having lived in the PNW the past 15 years. I’m guessing it’s more or less the same there like up here. But I’d appreciate any other insights.
I’m an old school gamer. Is there any places that have old school arcade games and / or pinball? Or even bowling alleys?
While I love small and quaint towns, I also need access to shopping? How’s the access to big box stores or are there a decent selection of small, local businesses?
Sorry for the novel. But I just want to make the most of my time there since I’ll only be there for a few days. Thanks.
Hi, just wondering about how to get around in Brookings.
I’ve never used an Uber before, but do they have Ubers in Brookings? I don’t know how big a place has to be to have Uber. Possibly dumb question.
I got some fireworks from the stand, but I am not sure where I can light them off at. I hope that someone has some info!
My friend and I are in town and we would like to go exploring. Since we just graduated high school and will soon be going to college we’ve been just exploring through Oregon and finally made it down south. Is there any abandoned places or supposedly “haunted” areas yall know about in Brookings or the surrounding areas like the Chetco, windchuck, etc.
Are there any EV charging stations other than Fred Meyer in Brookings?
I looking to sell my house in Klamath Falls and move my RV out to Brookings for a couple of years and am looking to find an RV space that has long term rentals. I go to Brookings a couple of times a year and feel it is right for me. I am not wealthy by any means; I just want a laid-back place to hang my hat and enjoy some fishing and other outdoor activities. I do realize healthcare is going to be a bit rough and the travel to Medford when needed won't be fun but am OK with that.
Sea Bird RV Park seems to have decent rate but I know there are one or two more, I just can't remember the names. I plan to head there soon and was wondering if anyone knows the other ones and perhaps give me an idea of how good or bad they are so I can stop by.
Thanks in advance.
My question. If Brookings is such a retirement community, where are all of the medical facilities? What is brookings really like, year round? I'd love to hear from transplants who have been there for 5 years or more.
Background, if you need it to give a better answer. We live in Tacoma, WA. In 2019 we took a trip down the coast and loved southern Oregon, basically everything south of Port Orford. We've been gearing up to sell our suburban home and find a place in that area ever since. We're cautious, and have been escaping weather, news (the whole Fred Meyer theft debacle was entertaining), and climate projections, as well as checking realty sites multiple times a week.
As for demographics, most of what we read describes Brookings as a retirement community, heavily conservative. Yet there are almost no significant medical facilities listed online (my wife has an autoimmune disease and needs access to a specialist, probably a rheumatologist). We're in our 40s and prefer being stuck behind slow drivers instead of being tailgated by douche canoes. As far as politics, if you want to believe any of that idiocracy, you can keep it to yourself. We're not trying to change anyone's mind or hear about it, we're just looking for a little space. I've worked in home/property remodeling for years and could probably offer my services, but I'd rather get some use of of my IT Masters degree and work on our own property.
If you hate where you are (I've read most of your comments), I don't need to hear from you, unless you have a decent property for sale with 1-2 decent homes at a reasonable price. My day started with someone pulling across from our house and vomiting what looked like about 3 cans of soup. The birds are eating it, now. And that's a good day. Our property taxes for a 60yr old, 1,560sqft rambler are $5.5k, this year.
I was looking at homes for sale in Brookings and I noticed that many of the homes for sale were mobile homes. Are there not many traditional family homes in the area? Some of the homes were cabins near the water, but they still had “mobile home” as the home type. Second question is how far is the closest international airport? San Francisco is the only one I could find.
Where do you go to dispose of them? Edit: sorry, I should've been more specific... I meant small batteries like AA, not car batteries. Thanks for the replies though, might be of help to someone else!
12/27/2023 highway 101 north was shut down and some surrounding streets including one of the harbor streets. Police road workers and Firefighters in the area. Research says there was a diesel oil spill! Be careful!
Looking at drone footage and google earth I see almost zero solar houses. Seems with all the extra sunshine Brookings gets there would be more. Whats up with that?
I'm only here for a couple weeks but would like to get in for an adjustment. Any suggestions for a chiro in town that's not going to try to stretch it out for weeks? I'm looking for the old school chiropractor that can adjust my back in one session. Thanks.
How’s the OTATV reception/content there? Deciding if I need to climb up on my roof and take down my antenna before I move.
My girlfriend and I are having two night getaway to the coast next week with one night in Arcata and one night in Brookings. She is a vegan so I’m hoping to find a place with some great options for her for dinner. Bonus if you can recommend a good lunch place also Thanks in advance.

My wife and I both sort of want to move to Brookings. We're serious enough that we pulled a loan application through our bank, we have a selling agent coming to look at our house, and we recently got back from Brookings to look at a few houses.
I guess our only concern is both our kids are high school age. Harbor high doesn't have the greatest scores, but our kids are great students.
We'd be moving from San Jose CA. In case any locals are wondering, no we're not interested in changing anything, or getting up in peoples business. We want to keep to ourselves.
Just wondering if any other big city WFH folks have done the move? As said, we just got back from 4 days of driving around, we have a good idea what the city is about, just want to hear some feedback from folks in a similar situation. Personally? We're looking to get away from the noise, pollution, and general crowding of the big city.
Hello! I’m (hopefully) planning a day trip to Brookings tomorrow, I’m about a 3 hour drive away, and was just curious if it’s as smokey there as it is where am I. I saw the air quality warning when looking up the weather, but it shows the same thing for us and the smoke has mostly cleared, so just curious about how it’s looking there?
