Visiting or Moving?

Useful Links - Please Read before asking for help!

We have a wealth of information here built up over the years. Before asking a question about pubs/dining/what to go do please try the search function first. There's probably info you want here already. If not, check out the relevant megathread if it exists and ask there.

Events

We're a friendly city, and people move here all the time. Maybe they don't know anyone and want to meet some new friends? Maybe they just want a casual pint and a hangout?

If you have an idea for a meetup, then it's positively encouraged to post up about it here. No need to ask.

If people reach out and post up a meetup, please be open and welcoming.

Rules for Posting:

1. /r/brighton is an inclusive space

  • This subbreddit exists to serve as a community space for all residents of B&H regardless of their race/gender/sexuality. Any posts or comments which exclude, other or in insult a person based on these categories will not be tolerated. This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Racism/Homophobia/Transphobia/Sexism

  • Whilst there may be some situations where things only warrant a warning, the mod team can, and will, ban people that don't play by the above rule.

  • If you can't deal with people that are 'different' to you, maybe Brighton isn't The One.

2. Keep it classy

  • Staying Classy can be broadly thought of as "not saying something which would get you punched by someone at a pub." Don't be a dick.

3. Keep it personalised

  • 90% of the time posts are about questions that have been asked many times before. If your question is unique, be as specific and ‘personal’ to your request as possible.

  • Megathreads will shortly be created for some common topics. It will be highly encouraged going forward to keep said discussions in those threads to avoid clutter, and make it easier to find useful info. Don't be surprised if some low-hanging fruit gets deleted. If so, ask your question again in the main thread. This will help everyone in the long run.

  • If self-promotion posts are generic then they will be removed. This sub doesn't exist to help your SEO. However if they are genuinely interesting or inclined to help someone out (e.g I have a bike to give away) then they are fine. This includes small businesses. It’s fine to post semi-promotional as long as it adds value.

4. Keep It Interesting

  • This subreddit isn't nextdoor or your local facebook group. We want an interesting, fun community that celebrates everything Brighton has to offer.

  • The mod team may remove your thread/comment if it's not contributing anything interesting or useful to the community. Examples:

  • 'Why is there a helicopter over X'
  • Complaining or venting without asking a specific question, or trying to start a good faith discussion ('to the person who parked on the kerb on Elm Grove: you're a nob' etc.)
  • Topics that have been done to death here over the years. (Yes. Parking is a PITA. Yes, the i360 is daft) If your intention is to spark a genuine discussion about something novel, then that's more than OK.

Friends visiting Brighton today - where should I take them for dinner?

I have two friends visiting me today, due to arrive in 20 minutes as I write this from the station.

We have no dinner plans - does anyone have any recommendations? I appreciate this has likely been asked many times, but I feel there's many new restaurants popping up in Brighton so thought it'd be worth asking again!

Ideally, not small plates. Budget around £25 each. Thanks!

Neighbours - wooden flooring

Hi all 👋🏻

Does anyone have any experience of living underneath a flat that has laminate wood flooring without sufficient underlay to combat noise?

My neighbour above is a family of three often looking after dogs. The noise has become unbearable.

We are also leaseholders and wooden flooring is not allowed in the lease.

Has anyone managed to resolve this issue? Perhaps going down a legal route?

Thank you ☺️

Is there anywhere in Brighton that sells good quality pizza by the slice?

Came back from Paris recently and there had been a few great quality establishments that did this where you could walk in and buy a slice or three.

Alt scene for students

Hi, I'm bringing my sibling to visit Brighton Uni next weekend and we'll have the Friday night to see a bit of Brighton. They're young, queer, alternative, quirky, colourful hair and piercings and they're into music like Ghost and Metallica and Nirvana. They plan to study photography. They aren't 18 yet so we can't go clubbing or anything like that.

Could anyone recommend any places or areas that they might enjoy going? I want them to see if Brighton is somewhere they'd feel like they fitted in and if they could find people like them. Thanks in advance.

Neighbours abusing child and CPS and police don’t care

This is a concern of a friends, not my own.

His neighbours abuse their child on an almost constant basis, to the point that he has multiple recordings of the parents screaming, and the child begging for them to stop hurting her.

CPS and police did a once around and then just left it alone. When they tried to follow up the smug cunt at the station went ‘sometimes kids need to be restrained’ and proceeded to mock his name (he’s Irish).

What can they do in this situation? File a complaint with NSPCC headquarters? Try kick up a fuss in the media? It’s heartbreaking.

EDIT: nspcc, not cps. They don’t care either

Dog-friendly Sunday Roast?

Hi! Looking for a pub that a) does a Sunday Roast and b) lets dogs inside.

Normally not a fan of dogs being in eating areas, but have a small puppy that can't be on outdoor ground yet (floors are better). Bonus points if the roast is good lol

Thanks!

Skindred at De La Warr tonight.

Not exactly Brighton but not too far out (I can't find a more appropriate flair sorry). I have a ticket for tonight's Skindred show at Bexhill De La Warr Pavillion but unfortunately can't make it now which sucks.

If anyone wants it you can have it for £25, face price was £33. Not interested in making money just want someone to enjoy it because I cant. It's in the dice app, just lmk before 17:00 because that's when they cut off friend transfers.

Any pubs that reliably show the Women's Super League?

Hi folks, does anyone know any good spots in Brighton that'll be showing the WSL this coming Sunday, specifically the late kick off (which happens after the final PL game of the day)? Travelling down to watch the mighty Leicester Women play the Seagulls and would like somewhere to bask in the glory of victory/ drown our sorrows

Good places for chess

Hey! Looking for for a cozy pub/cafe where I can also play chess with a friend over coffee ( I am sober so don’t want anywhere hugely overstimulating like loading bar can be with all games)
