Our girl Pookie is getting neutered tomorrow.
We had our small Iggy neutered last summer and he was easy to keep comfortable as he likes to sleep upstairs under the duvets away from Pookie and her gnarly rough housing.
But Pookie is big, 60 odd pounds. Her bed is at the bottom step of the stairs which is fine, usually, but now she will be sore and possibly annoyed or irritable and I want her to have rest... Where should I put her so she has uninterrupted rest?
While I'm here, anything I can do to keep her comfortable? Any suggestions or help for anything I'm not thinking of?? She enjoys a good lick of herself so I'm hoping the cone will be Pookie proof.
My borzoi puppy Tolstoy discovers his reflection. Puppies are cute! LOL
Something I love about my girl, which I have seen in other borzois also. They stick a single ear in the air to alert you to the fact they’re about to misbehave. It’s like having a red flag that she waves every time she’s planning a crime. Very handy to have this early warning system!
Hi, everyone! I wanted to reach out to the Borzoi community directly to get some suggestions on breeders. I’ve been doing some research on breeders and contacted a few, but I’ve seen some breeders thrown around in this community that aren’t actually as ethical as they say they are. That’s why I’d love to see where you got your Borzoi, your experience with the breeder, qualifications for the breeder, price, etc. if you’d be willing to share to help me find a good one.
I’m located in the Southeastern USA so I’d like to try to stay around this area if I could, but open to looking at other places somewhat nearby.
Thanks for your help in advance!
So I've read a lot of advice about avoiding puppy specific food, and food that is too protein rich, for Borzoi pups. And I've seen a lot of talk about how some brands that are usually considered "lower quality" like Purina Dog Chow, are actually great for Borzoi.
My current dog eats Kirkland dog food and we've had a great experience with it. He transitioned from the adult food to the senior food as he aged.
I looked up protein content for Kirkland food and Purina Dog Chow and it seems that Kirkland's Adult Lamb food has a similar protein content and so I'm leaning towards trying this for my pup's first food.
Are there other considerations beside protein content? Anyone have first hand experience with Kirkland food for Borzoi?
We have a 2 year old female borzoi, and we absolutely love her silly energy. She is a free feeder, and lately we’ve noticed she’s been carrying small amounts of food around the house and dropping them off. Sometimes she puts them on the ground near her bowl, sometimes she puts them between couch cushions to find later, and sometimes she will just lay down with a single nugget between her legs and watch tv with us. Our basset hound thinks this is a scavenger hunt, and loves when our zoi does this, like a silly game. I was just wondering if this is a quirk known across the breed, or if our pup just has a screw loose. Thanks!
We only got a little bit but he can't believe I would ask him to go out in it to potty. I was hoping to get some cute pictures since it rarely snows here but I guess this is the best I'm getting.
Rupert is loving this crazy weather!!
My partner and I have only about a week left until we bring home our 6 month old puppy. I'm so excited but honestly quite terrified for what's to come.
I've already researched as much as I could find ofc, but I was wondering if anyone here has any last tips/experience on bringing home specifically an older than usual puppy! I expect the settling in and bonding process to be a little different. Her name is Juno :)
She's travelling a good distance to get to us, so I have very little planned for the first week except chilling out with her and also doing my own thing every now and again to get her used to being left alone when I slowly go back to work. I'm not sure when she will feel comfortable going for walks after getting used to the house, so I'm just planning on seeing how she goes.
