There is paper craft and there is sculpture. But people create books and make them rather beautiful. There are plain ones and there are amazing ones. But here is the place to learn and grow from one another and enjoy what we do! Learn what works and what doesn't. Giving each other feedback on what particular materials can help as well. Bookbinding and Book Arts! This is a place to learn and share what your learned and show your work.

Rules:

  1. Make sure what you post is bookbinding or book arts related.
  2. If there are questions make sure you are clear about what you want in your title.
  3. Materials! Make sure you have a detailed description. There are so many materials, one of us must of worked with it or something similar.
  4. Paper sculptures are welcome! But also keep in mind BOOKS!
  5. Writers are also welcome to look around and see what we can do to help them in creating a book.
  6. Again, keep on topic.
  7. Post pictures as needed to show your work, or a link to the website.
  8. If posting someone else's work, please provide the name and website or picture to introduce them respectfully.
  9. Any posts that intend on selling work will be removed, this is a place to show and learn. If you are posting your website with your tutorial or work is fine but please no selling on the titles please, this is a sub to share and learn. There is a sub for selling please go there.
  10. Have fun!

Book Press Advice

Hello! I was in a book making class this semester of college, and we unfortunately do not have enough time to make multiple editions of our final book (our original plan). My book is 6 by 4, and I found a 6 by 6 book press on Amazon. Does anyone know if these types of small book presses work? I’d love to make more hardcover books, but I don’t want to spend money on something I’m not sure works or not.

Thank you!!!

Where do you sell?

Hey everyone just getting into book binding and was curious where you all sell your work at? I love the art of it and wouldn’t mind making some extra money on the side doing something interesting!

It’s the year of the 100th birth anniversary of Stanisław Lem, let’s celebrate by coming back to Solaris, The Cyberiad, The Invincible, and the other masterpieces of the father of Sci-Fi. As an expression of our respect, we have allowed ourselves to fit Mr. Stanisław in Yupitergrad artwork.

I made a Tome

Hello There I wanted to share with everyone A large tome I made

I also wanted to know if anything could be done better. maybe some different glue suggestions or somethingI would also like to know some different places people get paper from as for this one i have to cut all the pages by hand.

I dont mind cutting the paper by hand from rolls but having a few places to price things out would be nice.

Here is the link to the gallery i posted

You've all been asked "...what is...Book Arts?" How do you answer?

Lately I've been saying "it's like if you had a filmmaker create a sculpture"

The Crown Bind // Bookbinding Basics #23. The crown binding is an interesting one in that, more so than anything, it gave me a bunch of ideas for ways I could use that spine build. I'll have to play with and see what I can come up with as I think it's not really a practical book bind the way it is.
