FAQ/wiki

News, articles, pictures, videos & advice on everything related to bodybuilding - nutrition, supplementation, training, contest preparation, and more. Bodybuilding is specifically defined for purposes of this subreddit as the sport that involves preparing yourself for a competition (includes bikini, fitness, figure and physique). There are other subreddits better suited to those just interested in staying fit or building a beach body or lifting weights.

  • This subreddit is a community where those interested in the sport as defined here can share their opinions and experience as well as the science of the sport. Don't devalue opinions and experience by dismissing them as "broscience". This subreddit is not a site for vetting only scientifically provable propositions. Remember, science, particularly in the area of sports and nutrition, is evolving rapidly. Our experience, though anecdotal, can help fill those gaps until the scientific community reaches consensus.

Reminder: This is an internet forum in which anyone can post and comment. Believe what people say at your own risk.

Leading up to a show coaching + tips

I am new to the professional/competition side of bodybuilding and am wondering how I find a coach. I will be competing in the summertime. Since this is the first time I am entering a competition, I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for in-person people in the Bay Area, or online coaches! On top of that if anyone has any tips leading up to my first show that would be greatly appreciated!

What are some good leg day exercises?

I feel like I’ve got upper body down but I’m not super sure about lower body. My current plan is this

Glutes

  • Hip abductor
  • Leg press high legs close together
  • Sumo deadlifts

Thighs

  • Leg extension
  • Hip adductor
  • Hip abductor
  • leg curl

Calves

  • calve raises

I just can’t help but feel like I’m missing something. My ideal leg day goals are pretty standard nice thighs but very glut focused but I’m not sure which exercises to do. I’ve looked a little online and everywhere says a lot of different things. I’m pretty new to working out I started in November and really only started half decently planning my workouts about two months ago and there is so much to learn

Lou Ferrigno Originally Planned to Compete in 77 Olympia Before Taking Hulk Role. How Does He Place?

Attached is a photo of him around that time period as he was prepping. I think he would have won if he completed as his size would have dwarfed everyone. What do you all think? Can he beat a 1977 Frank Zane? Here's the winners bracket from that year:

1 United States Frank Zane 2 United States Ed Corney 3 United States Robby Robinson 4 United States Boyer Coe 5 United States Ken Waller 6 United States Dennis Tinerino 7 Barbados Albert Beckles 8 United States Bill Grant

Where would you place him in the top 8?

Is there any possibility of getting a pro card and being competitive in physique or classic after 30-35?

Assuming they have the genetics, 10+ years of consistent training under their belt, turns to the dark side/ is a super responder, etc.

Id assume it would take ~5 additional years to even think about qualifying to step foot on a pro stage, right?

It's Korea's Men's Physique ifbb pro.

If he participates in this Olympia, will he be able to make it into the top 15?
