Over the last 10 days I’ve listened to each Blur album, and I can gladly say that I’m a fan. These guys are sooo good.
While i love the album. The eq and mastering of some parts is questionable. I think damons voice is way to proccessed and clear compared the instruments. The music as a whole, is very compressed. I was thinking of taking a few songs and trying to mix them to sound more like their previous releases. What do we think?
had to draw him <3
Now before die hard fans from either side attack with a fuming passion let’s really have this conversation. Oasis is amazing and had released one of the greatest debut albums and sophomore albums ever. I mean ‘what’s the story morning glory’ contains a nearly flawless trackless and the only blur album to come near that perfection (besides there best of album) is ‘Modern Life is Rubish’. Though Blur has released amazing albums such as ‘Parklife’ and the infamous ‘Blur’ self titled album, even though both are filled to the brim with catchy tunes and dancefloor hits, neither come to a level of full perfectionism that Oasis achieved. Though, Notice how I’ve named drop basically four Blur albums and two Oasis albums. Thats cause in the general consensus Oasis fell off after those two.
Now, further spark conversation I pose another question what do we count as an album. Talking about the fact of Oasis, the release a B-side Compilation called the Masterplan, a b-side album reaching the majestic Heights of there first two albums. Even listening now to this album is not a perfect track list but even there B-Sides that are found on the long and whimsical deluxe version of ‘what’s the story morning glory’ pose better than a good amount of bands entire catalogs. Blur on the other hands compilation album may be the way you know the band. What makes this compilation best of album stand out is the cover for starters. You know you have something amazing on your hands when the most iconic cover you have is for your best of. Which this compilation compiles the fan favorites and the Hitmakers with no room to breathe. Which in this case is a good thing. Because they chose no filler songs at all.
Oasis had also dropped the album that killed the band called ‘Be Here Now’ which is a belated album which is drug out far too long. Which would become the normal for the band with ‘standing on the shoulders of giants’ and ‘Heathen Chemistry’ which has a closing track that is 32 minutes. Blur has noticeably changed in there years, little improvements over there sound but else it felt the band played it safe and new the strat in the Brit pop. Oasis on the other hand changed there sounds and wanted something new, but they strayed to far away and killed the band. Oasis finished just okay though with 2 amazing final albums. But who is the better band.
My opinion, oasis, possibly everything I’ve said is leading you to think I’d pick blur. But oasis makes me feels things music has never.
According to the Blur issue of Mojo, this was what made it to the cutting room floor for Parklife:
“Returning to the studio, the band recorded 14 more songs between December and the middle of February, 10 of which would appear on Parklife. To give an idea of the sheer variety of material being attempted, these 14 tracks included two waltzes; a song that nodded musically to Magazine; another with a rhythm based on the Tom Tom Club (featuring a surging Robert Fripp-style solo from Coxon); a William Blake poem set to music; a samba; an inventory of moons and stars sung by Alex James; a conceptual piece based loosely on the character of Ziggy Star-dust; and an emotional finale to the album with lyrics inspired by a handkerchief showing a map of Britain and its shipping regions. Just as there is much more to Sgt. Pepper than Billy Shears and the band you've known for all these years, there is much more to Parklife than Phil Daniels and dirty pigeons.”
Is it just me or does Bugman feel like it should be louder than it actually is? Swamp Song too a little, but Bugman specifically feels like it wants to be super loud and wild but is still being very compressed and capped.
Apart from Song 2, Girls and Boys, and Parklife what is the most overrated Blur song?
I suppose it is of public notoriety now that Song 2 was meant to mock Smells Like Teen Spirit and alternative rock as a whole, despite Graham gravitating towards alternative rock (especially bands from the US -correct me if I'm wrong) at that time.
What was the actual stance/opinion of the band towards Nirvana and Cobain ? They seemed to gravitate towards the same themes at some point (being sick of stardom mainly), and general world views, for some reason it seems weird to me that Blur would despise Nirvana's music.
ive seen a lot of talk about his iconic necklace, but was wondering if anyone recognizes the bracelet he wore during the Blur days. Brand and or style would be great! thanks
Hi! Im trying to do a custom vinyl to gift my boyfriend with ""our"" songs. One of out favourite songs is Tender by Blur, however the maximum lenght allowed is 5 minutes per song. Does anyone know where I can find/download/purchase the radio edit of Tender? I have tried to search on YouTube and Spotify but with no success.Thank you very much!
