They nailed it with these cast members! My favorite line is when Betty says "... Grey's a-NAT-a-mee..."
The show was redirected to appeal even more to a female audience in season 2 and really meddled with Emily Spivey's vision, which is why I think BTH tanked. The whole struggling low-income Southerner family shtick was toned down (money is no longer a major plot line and country is just a backdrop), characters were changed (Violet no longer draws, Jenny practically stops chatting with Jesus, we no longer hear Wayne's thoughts, Betty became Roger from American Dad...) and female side-characters and female-"exclusive" experiences were given way more screen time (see for example how much time we spend with Brenda vs Leonard who was totally dropped and replaced with those lame bros from Bigsby's and then Travis in the last three episodes). I liked the many Easter eggs and cameos in season 2, but Greenpoint felt way less authentic. Spivey was born and raised in NC and I feel like she had a very clear vision for the show, which is why season 1 was so good. I also didn't really care for the animation cleanup. It felt way less "trashy" without the gritty line art.
I feel the show was going in a bad direction from being 10 episodes in season 1 to having 24 episodes in season 2. What I liked about the show, was that it was pretty down to earth and had some nice characters. But with 24 episodes per season, things were going to get much wilder and I already feel like some flanderization happened already in season 2.
The best example I can mention is Betty Hart who is selfish and irresponsible in season 1 but in season 2 she also turns violent, vindictive and it's hard to understand why she isn't in jail.
I liked the show, but with 24 episodes per season, the writers would be forced to come up with ideas and things would just end up getting crazier and crazier so we would eventually have something like another family guy clone (but still with some heart)
I just recently found the show on disney+ and will say I still like season 2 and would probably rate the show 8/10 i don't dislike the animation and actually feel it's an upgrade compared to other adult cartoons. Especially in season 1 the backgrounds look really nice.
Universal Basic Guys new cartoon coming this fall to Fox
How is it possible to get this show back on another network?
Former coshowrunner Andy Bobrow writes for Krapopolis now and Grimsburg just dropped its first episode on Sunday. Checked them out yet?
Just like the title said if you could make your own Mega-Lo Memories episode (or Thanksgiving in general if you want to mix up the format) what would your episode be about?
I just discovered this show a couple weeks ago, I got so wrapped up and invested in it. It’s one of my favs! Just learned there’s no season 3 and finished season 2. Where do I go from here 😢
Now that the doubters are gone, we can get down to brass tacks. What’d’ya got?
Has anyone checked this show out. It’s about a daughter who moves to the South to inherit a town who worships her (now dead) dad.
It is on Freeform (next day Hulu). Hopefully if freeform cancels it it can move to Hulu.
One day when I’m a millionaire billionaire I will make my own network and bring this show back rhats a promise to all of y’all
Both shows are similar and it would have been nice to see the two shows crossover.
Something not said about this is that all the women had kids in there teens. The grandma is still young for having grandkids and is trying to get it on. The mom has a daughter when she was was a teen, that grew up with her and has to deal with trying to make decisions for a daughter that is in a different world of freedom. And also has a tough truck driver, trying to be a good stepdad in it. Also I love that this was female made.
I was born in the lower Midwest, we left for California but all of my family were born in the same hospital, 3 generations. All of these things minus the horny grandma apply to me and my sister. My grandma was 15 when she got pregnant with my mother, my mom was also 15 when she was pregnant with me. I was the Violet in my teens. Mom and I are totally goths to this day. Also my grandmother is a badass goth that got me into "Dead can dance". I once told her when I was 12 she was wearing rainbow toe socks "you have a rip in your toe socks" and she sighed and replied "You don't go to war in the toe socks you want, but the toe socks you want and wish for at later times". This is a history buffs quote and I loved it.
