Amazing solos in this tune.
But at approx 4:45 Tony reaches up for a note that squeals higher than frets of the guitar can even play. 😲
Did he push down and fret the metal edge of the treble pickup for a second? His string gauges are thin so it is conceivable…
Anyone ever try and play this solo?
That squealing note is unearthly like a living creature 🙀
I love it … it’s wicked.
🤘🎸🤘
Change My Mind. 🗿
"Has there ever been a more perfect rock and roll bookend than Planet Caravan on the 2nd album and Zeitgeist on the last? PC describes a launch into the unknown to explore the Universe, then 43 years later with Zeitgeist there is only the mournful acceptance that the end of the journey towers in front of us. It’s not a song that could have been written by young men"
I agree 100%.
I've been reading about the band and it seems like there's a bit of confusion… Some biographies say it was Butler (as usually), while others, like Wikipedia and Ozzy's autobiography, say it was Ozzy. I've also seen it mentioned in a Reddit thread. Do you have any more information?
Guitar solos on repeat! Anyone else skip back and listen to them again and again? That ending solo has always hit hard.
Dumb question but what instrument(s) is used in embryo
Listening to Type O Negative right now, and it really just hit me what a crazy amount of bands have been influenced by Black Sabbath. You can hear them in so many ways within other bands after, but some of the most notable to me are Type O, Soundgarden, and Electric Wizard. Soundgarden is pretty much just a grunge-ified Sabbath, and I mean even listen to Chris Cornell’s vocal style it comes straight from Ozzy. You can hear it particularly well in Hunted Down.
I know I’m stating the obvious but it can’t be stated enough what a strong influence they’ve had on music, especially metal. Such a great iconic sound.
It´s not an And Justice for All situation, you can still hear it, but you have to really make an effort there.
The only song that you can hear him up front is Changes, and that´s cause there´s no guitar lol.
Compare that to Master of Reality, where he was as in your face as Tony.
Again, this is a 9.5/10 album (FX stops it from being a 10), but yeah, minor complaint.
He's no Bill, but he did a good job on 13, he gets way too much shit from Sabbath fans. In fact, he goes hard AF on Dear Father. That's it.
on the wikipedia page for Vol 4, it's said that they retitled the album and gave it a new cover. Has this original cover ever been seen, and what does it look like if it has been seen? tried googling but it only shows the photo of the final artwork in black and white
I can't remember it exactly, but I think I read somewhere that this song is Geezer's favourite out of all he wrote in Black Sabbath. Probably from his bio or an interview.
Is it true?
Iommi sneaks up at least 2 or 3 riffs per song, and you never see it coming, yet he completely changes the direction of the track.
What are some of your favorite examples?
Lord of this World comes to mind, very doomy riff at the start, yet it changes into a playful, bouncing riff at 0:27.
Hand of Doom, a riff change up for the "you´re having a good time" section.
Cornucopia has like 3/4 different riffs in it.
