alright so i picked up a baby about a week ago, he’s about 3 inches and the width of a pencil. he’s in a 75g with a juvenile senegal and juvenile EBJD. (not the final home). Anyways, the first few days he didn’t eat, then i target fed him and he’ll usually get like 2 bites out of the bloodworm block then swim away, sometimes if i find where he went and drop them in front he’ll eat a little more. No signs of poor health or anything. On the other hand when the senegal was a baby he’d eat anything in sight so im just wondering if it’s normal for delhezi.
Once taxes drop in my husband and I are looking to add a new tank and we really want to do a bichir tank. I’m trying to figure out a good tank size, we are probably gonna get least two Senegal bichirs, and I also would like to add another species or two to the tank as well. Would a 75 gallon be okay or should I get a bigger one? We are already getting 75 to upgrade our black moor tank but I also maybe get 125 if we can afford it. And I also read very controversial things about adding plecos with them. I like plecos mine have never given me issues with my black moors but I don’t want to put one in if it’s gonna cause issues with the bichirs.
Im planning on buying 100 Felder Shrimps to put in with my 2 senegals,2ropefish and 1 endli in the hopes that they will form a steady Population so i get a Constant food supply for them. I have a heavily planted tank as yall can see.
Looking for 2. Opinions on if it could work or if its Just a huge waste of money
Just wanted to show of my buddy scar face:) he doesn’t actually have a scar on his face it’s actually on his side. I had a 40 gal breeder that broke open and must have cut his side. But luckily I have multiple tanks and I managed to nurse him back to health! He was about 4 inch back then he’s pushing about 7 1/2 now!
Side note: there were also 2 black guppy’s I got as feeders that somehow survived the hour or so with no water that now live with him and he refuses to eat them? Strange fella he is!
Fat ol' gal finally ate the neon tetras I put in the tank for her! She's getting a LOT bigger. I'm still rotating between her frozen shrimp pieces, bloodworms, and small lives, but so far she's done really well with all of them 😌
I’m in need of some clean up/algae support in my 90. I have two Senegals. I know plecos aren’t a recommended solution. Would a SAE be okay?
I have 1 senegalus and 1 albino my albino fin just like this today how can I heal him
Whilst setting up my new bichir tank, I noticed some pieces of duck weed sitting on top of the water, so I was wondering, as bichirs are obligate air breathers, would duckweed be dangerous for them? And also, I was originally planning to add some floating plants such as red root floaters, is this a bad idea? Any advice would be appreciated
Hey everyone! I was wondering what everybody thinks my (nameless:( ) baby is? He was sold to me as a delhezi but I’m pretty sure he’s a endlicheri. Also is it normal for him to be this small? I feed him tilapia and carnivore pallets throughout the week, he’s about 6”-8”. I’ve had him since last August but I haven’t seen much growth. TIA!
( also names are welcomed :) )
I’m located in the US but I don’t know where I can and should buy an ornate bichir
Brought home in Jan 2023! He needs a name LOL.
I have been looking but I can’t find anywhere good to buy bichirs
He was only a few inches long when I got him, around 14 inches now
I’ve currently got 1 Senegal (6in), 2 pollis (5in & 7in, respectively) and a Siamese algae eater in a 75g tank, with plans to eventually get a leopard bush fish when I find one that’s big enough. The algae eater and bichirs get along very well and the four of them often shoal together very peacefully. I’ve been considering adding 2 more algae eaters to the tank since even tho I know they’re fine on their own, I’ve heard they enjoy being in groups. I’m just worried about it getting a little cramped in there with 2 more 6 inch SAE when everyone is fully grown?
I’m not worried about bioload, since the tank is heavily planted and fitted with enough filtration for a tank twice its size. I’ve been able to inspect the SAE at my LFS in person and am positive of their legitimacy, so there isn’t any risk of accidentally getting the wrong species either.
Despite the fact that right now it doesn’t seem like any of the fish seem to care all that much about who hangs out where, I’m mostly just worried about the physical tank/territory space as everyone reaches full size.
