Which polypterus species would you say is the “laziest” and least active in the tank? For example, P. Senegalus are considered active for Bichirs.
Got 10 guppies for my turtles who don’t wanna eat them…….. Slowly but surely ten turned to eight then to three and just two days ago one.
The guppies would hide right where it’s sitting rn. I got a feeling at night it’d go hunting while the guppies are sleeping.
What’s the e deal with these things ? Why’s everyone about them so heavy what the fuck are they
He’s been doing this since I bought him I thought this is just what they do now I’m starting to get worried has anyone else’s done this all he does is swim frantically after feeding at night for like 20 mins and then just swims normally
So I have 3 yoyos in a tank along with my quickly growing Senegal Birchir. The loachs are much bigger then he is currently so they have not been targeted as food, but I did notice something interesting when feeding. Both the loach and Birchir will kick up food for each other to eat and will follow behind each other when eating ans do not fight over the food either. I'm watching this behavior and tank closely as I do not want to lose the loaches and they actually seem to work well community wise in the tank.
I just fed him yesterday and one of my congo tetras are missing, but his tummy is bloated and his butt is floating up in the air. He also seems to have some trouble swimming back down, is he ok?
I am new to Bichirs, although I have been keeping fish for about 6 years. Apart from the bichirs, I keep Oscars, Viejas, Blood Parrots, Fire Eels, Green Terrors (Gold Saum) and Frontosas.
I have 2 Senegals and 2 Endlicheris. At the moment they are in a 110G with 2 rope fish. All except the ropes are juviniles.
Any pro tips and tricks for keeping these guys happy and healthy?
I feed 3 times a week, with shrimp tails and Hikari Carnivore Pellers. They seem to prefer the meat, to pellets. The endlis eat much slower compared to the Senegals as well.
Also, how fast do they grow in general?
What would be a fair price from a private seller for an adult ornate?
This is Furious. She ate a smaller minnow one day while I was at work and I have always seen her try to catch these minnows but never actually seen her catch one. Came out of my room to see this 👏🏽😁 I think this minnow is too big for her to eat though lol.
So recently I had a trumpet snail explosion in my Senegal's tank. Tried all the traps and food ways to get them out, but no luck.
I didn't want to use chemicals, so I got a clown loach, big enough that it didn't fit in Senegal's mouth. Now snail problem is gone! Loach took care of all of them within 24 hours.
Now I am wondering, should I keep the loach with Senegal, or should I move it on?? The guy at the fish shop assured me they should be fine in the size tank I have, but ya know......he probs wanted to make a sale...
Tank is about 190L
The relief i felt when i turned around and saw him the other day
been feeding my bichir tilapia “do she look fat” lol
I am sad now that I know how they get the ropefish
Si ropefish are on my top 3 fish of all time, a few months ago I bought 4 of them, and 3 of them died, then I found out that it was because my LFS don’t quarantine their fish. Doing further research I found out that ropefish are extracted from the nature in a very invasive way, not in a responsible way as it is usually advertised, they use chemicals to make them easier to catch resulting in a lot of them dying, the ropefish population is getting smaller every year. I love ropefish, I still have one, but now that I know I won’t buy anymore of them, they are all wild caught. People please, let’s not buy anymore ropefish, let’s not give more incentives to people to keep doing this. We all know this fish, we should take care of them, not judging you if you have them, but let’s start a change!!!! A quick video from my boy to get attention haha
So was trying to feed my turtles a guppy, it died and as soon as the body reached the bottom of the tank one of my bichirs grabbed it and proceeded to eat it…. The bichir in question barely got the guppy down.
Should I be worried it’ll choke or something?
I’ve had this guy(Ornate) and a Senegal Bichir for about two months now. They have easily become my favorite fish to watch out of everything I have. They are living in my new world cichlid community tank and loving it. I’ve been feeding them blood worms, mysis shrimp, feeder guppies, and cichlid pellets. Are there any other treats that they would like eating that I could get for them? They are currently each around 3.5 inches.
I have 2 bichirs in a paludarium with 4 brown anoles, hispanolian green anole and a squirrels tree frog. I've not had any problems until now but my green anole fell into the water and was bit on the tail. It doesn't seem too bad but I wasn't sure If it would need treating or if I'd need to remove the bichirs. The bichirs are abt 3-4 inches long. Here's a photo of the bite. She seems fine still
I’ve been raising bichir for a while and this would be the smallest tank i’ve ever kept them in. is a 75 gallon too small for 1 delhezi, 1 sen, and 2 ropefish? i have always kept at least 5 bichir in a 200 with one dominant male so i’m a bit worried about separating them. the ones in the 75 are the newest additions and they’ve been causing issues in the long term community tank. i would put them in an 85 gallon but i have 10 (or so) bichir fry that i don’t want eaten. any tips are appreciated!
note: yes i know the dangers of keeping them on a larger gravel, they will be fed on the sand half of the tank (the larger gravel is a 2.5-3.0 mil)
