No Witch Hunts
This is also a site-wide rule, but it bears repeating. Do not post something that could be construed as organizing a movement or negative response against an individual or group. You may post names and/or pictures so long as the original source of this information is reputable. Qualifying sources are left entirely to Moderator discretion. Examples of a reputable source may include: the University, a reputable paper or journal, or a government source. This rule only applies to people or groups who are not public entities.
No Advertisements, Promotions, Surveys
You may not advertise or promote any product or service of absolutely any kind in this subreddit. Examples of an advertisement or promotion may include: job openings, housing requests, apps, websites, surveys, and/or campaigns. Exceptions may be allowed with moderator approval.
You can troll, but there are limits
Trolling itself is not against the rules. However, any trolling that qualifies as excessive, confrontational, or aggressive is not allowed. Moderators make the final call as to where the dividing line is - so be nice.
Use original titles
All news articles, or articles of any kind, must be submitted with the same title as the title of the article being linked. We'll remove any threads that violate this rule (since titles can't be edited after submission), and repeat offenders may be banned.
To assign your own flair, click the "edit" button next to your name on the right-hand bar. Any inappropriate flair will be removed and repeat offenders banned permanently. If you suspect someone is using official "UC Staff" flair and posing as a fake staff member, message the mods and we will remove it.

My wife and I are both alumni and want to come to Berkeley with books we are reading and hang out in one of the libraries. Are any open on saturdays?
I have too many units and need to drop a class but I’m unsure whether to drop English 45B or another class since the professors rotate each semester and this semester’s (Duncan) seems to be well liked. Did anyone take a 45B with a diff prof they really liked? Who’s the highest reputed prof of this class?
anyone know if they released any information regarding if it's easier to switch into the data science major (through comprehensive review) if you're already a stats major in CDSS
Doesn't count if you had lowhorn
I know it’s available to view on the website by Jan 31st but it’s almost midnight and I don’t see it on my account yet. Last year it was uploaded 9:30ish pm so I’m wondering if anyone else has gotten theirs yet?
hi guys, I have a question about cpt for international student. if I have two internships in summer, do I need to do 2 courses credit. i am so confused
hey guys, i have a question about type of CPT are you applying for?
Degree Requirement - This internship will fulfill a degree requirement for a program that is listed on the BIO CPT website under “Degree Requirement CPT”.
Course Credit - I understand that I must enroll in the course. BIO will NOT APPROVE UNTIL YOU'RE ENROLLED and course appears on Cal Central.
can someone explain me the two these options, and which one should I get/ people often do. thank you so much guys!
If you have macOS and use the university GlobalProtect VPN, you may have noticed that the password autofill doesn't work when connecting to the VPN. This is very annoying if you use random strong passwords because you have to find your password and copy and paste into the login window. You also gotta login basically every time you use the VPN as it doesn't remember you.
So I wrote a quick script to fix this issue. It saves your password securely using the macOS keychain, and uses AppleScript to enter the username and password into the GlobalProtect window.
When prompted to login to GlobalProtect, just open your terminal and type `gp-login` and you're good!

P.S. I am not an EECS/CS student just a hobbyist

Really wanna to join in Econ 140, 100b discord! And anyone on NUSCTX 11 or MELC 158AC? I'd like to get to know you guys!
it’s ass
Dear Golden Bears,
I'm an incoming summer exchange student from Canada.
My question is: Does Berkeley offer Studio-style housing? (I wanna live and cook food by myself). If so, how do I apply for it?
Thank you so much! Go Bears!!
This is a web-based class so is the final exam online too? Gonna graduate in summer and move somewhere further from campus before that so it’d be ideal if I don’t have to take the final in-person.
Just curious if this looks legit or not, bc I Lwk want free food but it also looks kinda sketchy 👀
Just bought a new pair of night vision goggles, need some recommendations for places to stargaze without getting interrupted lol.

Anyone know what the girls in sproul giving out fist bumps were for? A club?
I am a sophomore at Cal and I’ve been playing golf for a while. I am not good enough to make it to the team so I usually play by myself🥲 (I WANT TO MAKE GOLF FRIENDS AND SOCIAL). I usually play at Tilden (but I’m down to play at other courses). Anyone interested to play together? (Maybe we can even share an uber!)
Maybe they sleep here during the weekend too, the campus-only emergency number says unless they committed a crime they cannot do anything.
I like talking to people and I figure Berkeley probably has some really interesting subject matter and stories. Does anyone have recommendations for cool, approachable professors who are excited to talk about their work or even personal life stories? Bonus points: Non-approachable professors who have cool work/personal stories?
is there a discord for physics 8B with golightly for this semester? please send me the invite if there is!!
For those that are taking it, how are you all planning on getting through the semester? The professor is completely unintelligible, and I can only make out 10% of the words that come out of his mouth. It doesn’t help that his board work is hard to follow.
I’m curious to know of success stories where postdocs negotiate a higher than minimum salary. I’ve heard Berkeley does not have fixed rates which is why I am asking.
What do I do here tonight?
Whats with all the stuff in front of sproul hall? Someone said it's a concert but does anyone know who?
