Trolling itself is not against the rules. However, any trolling that qualifies as excessive, confrontational, or aggressive is not allowed. Moderators make the final call as to where the dividing line is - so be nice.

On the first Sunday of Advent, we light the candle of hope. Hope is a necessary virtue; it is living an ordered life in light of certain knowledge of a future good. Rather than just being a festive season, Advent calls us to reflect on the ultimate hope of our lives:
"Day by day, man experiences many greater or lesser hopes which keep him going, different in kind according to different periods of his life. Sometimes one hope may appear to be totally satisfying without any need for other hopes. Young people can have the hope of a great and fully satisfying love, the hope of a certain profession, or of some success that will prove decisive for the rest of their lives. When these hopes are fulfilled, however, it becomes clear that they were not, in reality, the whole. It becomes evident that man has need of a hope that goes further; only something infinite will suffice for him, something that will be always more than he could ever attain."
~ Pope Benedict XVI, Spes Salvi (full reflection on hope: https://www.vatican.va/content/benedict-xvi/en/encyclicals/documents/hf_ben-xvi_enc_20071130_spe-salvi.html#:~:text=30.%20Let%20us,and%20its%20exercise.)

Hi everyone, I have been living in the foothill dorms and for the past 2 months the washers and driers have been causing me severe skin problems. When ever I put the washer or drier on hot (sometimes happens with cold setting too), it burns my clothes and all my blankets, leaving this ugly black tar on my clothes that look like burnt marks. I’ve tried using different washers and driers to test out if it was just one machine acting up, but no, it happened an all machines when I washed different items in different machines. It’s causing me to have severe itching problems. It feels like there’s sand in my clothing or bugs crawling, it may be giving me eczema. Idk if others are having this problem too? I don’t want to have to take my laundry to a laundromat cuz foothill is a long walk.
anyone know where i can get a tasty pumpkin spice or peppermint mocha latte? really craving a holiday drink
Hey everyone, here's an infographic my friends and I made about the benefits of sleep, with additional detailed info and links to resources as well!
Sleep well and good luck on your finals!
optimal management of your time according to anant sahai
^^throwback to this lol
anyways, my team and i made this website to remind y'all to get some sleep, especially around finals time.
get some sleep and good luck on exams! (added flair since ik cs/eecs are some of the worst at healthy sleep)
go bears!
Ever sense I was growing up in a traditional asian household, I had 8 hours of sleep every day. Through college, I have maintained this rigid sleep schedule because I didn't even know people can sleep less than 8 hours and still function. But I've recently been feeling the temptations to sleep less, because I'm strugglin. My grades are in limbo between fire and water, good and bad.
I was looking for a sign from the heavens to let go of that decree for which I once held dear. Then out of nowhere I started seeing all these posts about sleep deprivation. Now I've never tried sleep deprivation before. But I'm reading these warnings and symptoms and honestly it seems managable. I wanna go easy on it because its my first time, but I'm also worried I won't be able to contain myself and Iet loose. I might be a monster, like a beast chained from its inner desires. Also like what if I don't respond well to sleep deprivation, because I know some people get really giddy, moody, or even violent at times. Like what if I fall unconscoius while staying awake for too long, and there is nobody around to resuscitate me. I feel like I'm stuck between the living and the dead.
I'm thinking I try a week of all-nighters and adjust from there. I have a couple upper division psychology classes, which are pretty easy because the psych major is extremely light, but math 53 from sethian is killing me.
Little last minute, but I was wondering if anyone is planning on transferring out of berkeley and has completed/is completing the uc transfer app? Please pm me if you are!
Anyone applied to Berkeley’s MS in CS or MS/PhD in CS without a CS undergrad? I come from a law background but am a self-taught programmer - if anyone’s got a similar background I’d love to hear your experience.
Hello all, incoming transfer here - I'm looking at these places from "The Berkeley Group Management," specifically the "Warring House" and "Telegraph Commons." They both look like really nice places to live, but I'm a bit wary of these big hedge fund management companies. Anyone lived there before? What was it like?
among cs students that i know and i saw on linkedin, most of them have interned at amazon at some point, i am just wondering how they get it. with referrals? or just cold apply? are amazon offers easy to get at all?
Hi I need 5 units for engineering breadth: which one is easier or heavier on work DES INV 15 & ENGIN 26 or ENGIN 11 & ENGIN 26 or MATSCI 45 & 45L. Also do any of them require attendance for lectures or have midterms or final exams? Any help is greatly appreciated!
For context: For ENGIN 11, I am very comfortable with Python and data analysis in general (have taken Data C8 & C100) for ENGIN 26 I am not familar with CAD at all, and for MATSCI 45/45L I know some physics but have almost zero chemistry knowledge.

Hey All,
I am looking for publications, email newsletters, and bloggers at Berkeley.
If none exist, I would like to start a Stanford review, an edge libertarian-conservative publication covering political philosophy and interaction with tech. for Berkeley students!
Hello! I'm a current community college student, and Berkeley is one of my top schools. I really want to be prepared and better my chances of getting in, so my question is: What things do you wish you would have done before going to Berkeley? There are certain things only experience can teach you, and I would like to know everything and anything. Are there any clubs or awards that look better for applications? Are there certain areas I should be focusing on? thank you guys in advance!
Hello!! Has anyone taken bio 1al with professor Lones? How is the final? How do you recommend studying for it?
anyone interning in chicago this summer i’m looking for roommates potench! and if anyone else has any recs pls send : )
Hi, I'm a prospective transfer looking to transfer from UC to UC. I saw there's the lower division maximum transfer credit policy, and that I can't have more than 120 quarter units when transferring, and that credit from AP exams don't factor into that, but can be used to fulfill certain requirements. However, I included the coursework from the community college I dual enrolled in during high school. I know it can be used to fulfill certain requirements, but I don't know if it count towards the transfer credit maximum. Also, if I list the community college I dual enrolled in during high school, do I need to complete the IGETC or not, and just specify it was dual enrollment with high school? Also, bonus points if you transfered from UCSD and know if the college writing programs fulfill the University English Composition requirement.
I tried to enroll in some classes, but I get an error whenever I try to enroll from the shopping cart "Invalid Academic Program from enrollment request." Anyone know what's up with this/who to contact? I included a screenshot below.
(If it matters at all, I'm a senior in CDSS (computer science) with a declared mathematics minor.)
when adjustment period starts, will the reserved seats still apply?
I'm on the waitlist and was wondering if I will be let in based on if someone from a certain reserved seats group drops or if any of the students drop
