13 years young ❤️
Still full of life and curiosity 😜
The World is Barney the Beagle’s dog bed, including me.
Such a sleepy guy -
I’m trying more mentally stimulating activities as suggested! Burt still isn’t sleeping well hahaha but he’s loving the puzzles!
He was a very good boy and no one died.
Betty loves freshly washed blankets. And she's definitely able to jump on the sofa unassisted after her vestibular episode because the doggie steps are by the other one. But she keeps it high class demanding her blankets constantly being cleaned.
Has anyone’s beagle been diagnosed with an elongated soft palate?
All of the sudden, almost two months ago, our beagle started sneezing and snorting a ton. We thought maybe something was stuck up her nose (a piece of grass maybe?). After about 10 days of this, we took her to the vet who said that also might be the problem and prescribed her prednisone (to reduce the swelling) and antibiotics (to treat any possible infection that might have created a scab over something in her nose), and told us to give her tons of water to try to clear whatever was out of her nose. A month later, the problem is still there, and now it sounds more in her throat where she’s trying to cough something up repeatedly every 10 minutes or so. We took her back to the vet and he did X-rays - they turned out super clear (so clear he could see all her tooth roots and that she does not have any abscesses) and he couldn’t see anything stuck in her nose or throat or any inflammation, lungs look clear, no tumors could be seen anywhere. Heart is slightly large but doesn’t seem to be an issue or pushing up on her esophagus or anything. He said it’s probably an elongated soft palate that’s getting worse as she ages (she’s 8 years old), but in my Internet research this seems to be something that affects smushed faces dogs like pugs and dogs that are overweight (she’s not overweight by much - she’s 25 pounds and the vet says she should be 23-24 pounds), and I’m just not convinced this is what it is and it feels like she’s just being tortured constantly snorting and gagging and she can’t even sleep peacefully. We live in a very rural and remote community that is very far (1000 miles) from the next vet, so it’s not like I can just easily take her to another vet for a second opinion unfortunately.
Has anyone had experience with an elongated soft palate in their beagle? What does it sound like?
Likes to run and eat, destroyed an entire sofa in one afternoon
