Thinking about the ECET program

I’m thinking about going back to study at BCIT with Electrical engineering in mind. However I’ve been in trades since graduating and my highschool grades weren’t exactly the best. I had a 73% in english 12, 55% in physics 11, 80% in foundations of math 12. I don’t think these grades would be able to get me into the ECET program that I need to do to go into the EE degree path. What would be my best course of action? I thought of upgrading courses but not sure where would be best to retake physics/math to meet pre-reqs for ECET.

Has anyone taken MDIA 1280 (After Effects)

I'm planning to take the MDIA 1280 course focused on After Effects at BCIT, and I'm curious about what to expect. Has anyone here taken it before? I'd love to know how in-depth the course goes and what level of skills I can expect to build.

Is there any way I take up just one course in my final semester as an Intl student?

So I'm in my 4th semester, about to finish with my diploma program, except that I have one course pending which I had failed in semester 3. This wasn't a pre-req so I was able to continue into term 4, I also couldn't take it up over the summer as I was out of country.

So, like the title says, can I take up just one course in my final semester?

Also, who would I have to meet that could help me with this?

Aviation management and operations diploma

I would like to know if anyone has done the aviation management and operations diploma at BCIT and if so, where are you at in your career right now? I’m currently in the program and I’m worried about the job opportunities I’ll have after I graduate and the salary. I guess I just want to know if this is a good career and if I’ll need to do more schooling after this to make a good salary. Also, we have a work education term where we need to find a job in the industry and work for a few months (non-coop), I’m stressed about that because I don’t really know what to look for :(

Regarding the trades assessment test

Are we allowed to bring our own calculator for the math assessment as long as it is a non programmable calculator. Or do they give calculators to all candidates taking a test at BCIT?

Question about Medical Radiography credits

So I'm planning on applying for the Medical Radiography Diploma program next year after a gap year from high school. My next steps might be to apply for medical a few years down the road and go on to become a full radiologist, but I need to know if I'll get enough credits from the MRD program first.

On the BCIT website, the program says ti has a total of 148.5 credits, which I think is a lot for two years? UBC med school only requires 90 post-secondary credits and a handful of highly recommended courses for application. So I was wondering if those 148.5 credits are the same kind of credit they're looking for for UBC med? Besides taking the highly recommended courses, would those 148.5 credits count towards the 90 required, does anybody know?

MSc ecological restoration

I am planning on applying for the MSc ecological restoration degree and have a few questions about the competitive admission.

I will be done with my bachelor in geography/global environmental systems (SFU) in the spring and while I only took a few ecology classes I do have a lot of knowledge about the environment (hydrology, geomorphology, soil science, climate change, and more). I also have a bit of work experience that relates to the degree.

Now I am wondering if my chances are good at getting in?

I do fulfill the admission requirements but the fact that it‘s competitive is scaring me a bit

Event Marketing & management strategy certification

Hi there! I am really interested in pursuing event and wedding planning, and have been struggling to find a school or course to further my learning. I already have a diploma in fashion marketing from blanche macdonald and i’d love to expand my education.

I’ve heard some really good things about the BCIT Event Marketing & even managment strategy certification and wanted to ask some questions.

  1. how long is the course? it says part time and it’s only a certificate but i can’t find specifics about the length

2.is it worth it? should i look into getting more eduction than just a certificate?

I really appricate all the advice i can get, thank you in advance for any help :)

I completed my application about a week ago and I'm a little worried that i wont get in as its a first come first serve program. I have checked the website and it says that they are still accepting applications but ive also heard that if you don't apply in the first day you might get waitlisted. Im pretty sure i meet all the requirements and i have an above average grade %, am i just being paranoid? Also any general advice would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone specifically used BCIT courses to meet their program's entrance requirements?

I want to apply for the sonography program for September 2026, and the math, physics, and biology courses have to be completed within the last 5 years. I completed my university math anf physics on 2019 and 2020 so they would be more than 5 years when I apply to the program. My university biology/A&P was not equivalent to BCIT's A&P so I would need to retake it as well.

I'm planning on retaking these courses at BCIT however, I saw one post stating that students cannot use BCIT courses to meet their entrance requirements, especially physics. Is this true? Has anyone experienced a similar situation? If so, what did you do?

Another Question: I already registered for BHSC 0110 for Winter 2025 just to save a seat. Should I take this course or the BHSC 1200? I already have a BSc in Health Science so I already have the lab experience. I'm assuming it won't hurt to take 0110 (grade 12 bio) as it is just an "entrance" requirement, but in terms of competitiveness, would 1200 increase my chance of acceptance to the program because it's a university bio?

Operation management industrial engineering

Hey,

What are your thoughts about BCITS operations management industrial engineering program. It says its a flexible program and because i work fulltime this would fit nicely with my schedule. Currently i was taking programming courses however I quickly learned thats not for me and im wanting to change program so any insight in this would be greatly appreciated. What are the job prospects like and how is the workload if i plan to take 2-3 courses each semester

marine engineers, what is/was your experience in BCIT and after?

Just wondered what is the general experience studying this program at BCIT. I'm a first year in another university and I'm interested in transferring into this program, if its possible. So I just wanted to know some perspectives of current students and alumni who took this degree before making a conclusive choice.

How was the co-op terms? (North Vancouver notoriety)How is the housing situation? Was it a hard change of life from land to boats?

I have 0 experience working on ships but I'm willing to adapt o the transition. Currently my grades in my uni isn't the best (tough transition and gap year) but solid highschool math and physics grades.

Will there be more BHSC 1200 Classes?

Anyone know if they’ll release more of the BHSC 1200 classes?? Or if BCIT normally offers more courses if they all get filled up so quickly and if demand is high. (This photo is from the morning that the registrations went live, these classes were all fully registered for within an hour of them dropping and going live).

Bachelor of Accounting

Does anyone know what the competitive average is to get in for the January intake full time program (for bacc)? Just did my exams and I’m afraid I won’t be able to finish the diploma for the September intake.

Also if you’ve done the program please share some elective recommendations/insights on the program it self. Thank you

Choosing Between Computer Information Systems and Industrial Cybersecurity at BCIT

I’m planning to enroll at BCIT in 2025 and am currently torn between two programs: Computer Information Systems and Industrial Cybersecurity.

On one hand, Computer Information Systems is a broad, general field. It doesn’t go deep into any specific topic, but it provides a flexible foundation, allowing me to explore different areas within IT. However, I worry that I won’t gain in-depth expertise in any particular area.

On the other hand, Industrial Cybersecurity offers a specialized focus on cybersecurity and network security. This program will give me in-depth knowledge in a growing field, but it might limit my job prospects to cybersecurity-specific roles after graduation.

This brings me to my first question: which of these options would provide better long-term opportunities, considering both depth and breadth in the job market?

And my second question is : Is it even worth going to BCIT and spending two years to get a diploma? Could I achieve similar results through self-study by earning certifications like CCNA or Microsoft Azure? Would these certifications cover what I need to know in a comparable way?

Which path would you recommend, and in your opinion, which option is better?

Application question

I'm applying to post secondaries right now, and I'm a bit confused. UBCs application had like 3 essays and a bunch of questions, while BCIT has an optional highschool transcript and nothing else.

Obviously I'm adding the transcript, but is that really it? It also says "upload proof of English proficiency" and "upload questionnaire" as well as a place for additional documents. When I look up the questionnaire part, only certain programs come up. I want to apply for Electrical engineering, and I can't find anything for it. I'm really confused, it can't be that easy right?
