And where do I go from here? I’ve never been so disturbed watching a show in my life. I still can’t process it. I can’t even bring myself to turn anything else on bc Im just sitting here thinking “what in the fuck”. Thinking back on the first season, I would’ve never guessed it could get THAT dark and miserable. I’m happy for Dylan and Emma and just heartbroken for everybody else. Truly an amazing series. Bravo
Just finished watching Bates motel a week ago and just can't believe how good this was. I was a fan of the original films which watched a few times and decided I would give this series's a fair go thinking it would pale in comparison.
It's actually the exact opposite now I'm my opinion. I was only 4 episodes in and I was completely hooked. I couldn't wait to finish work to get home and do another 4 episodes. Warning ⚠️ some episodes end on a cliff hanger that you just can't help fire up the next episode which can result in a 2am bedtime on on work night. I just wanted it carry on and on and on..
Problem is now can't find anything else to watch. Tried Dexter and Hannibal but just can't get into them at all after Bates Motel. Does anyone have any other recommendations. Only other series that watched like this that got me hooked was Walking Dead series and spins offs.
Did Mother kill Norma? I think this may be more Norman's doing. I don't see Mother killing "herself" cuz that would harm Norman.
I don't think he had planned it. I'm not quite even sure why he did it other than he's, ya know, crazy...
Additionally, if he didn't think or believed that he killed her n what was his reasoning in setting the furnace? What did he think would happen? Or have both personalities just kinda derailed at this point?
Let's discuss
For me, this show is beautiful in many ways – the soundtrack, the scenes, the dark themes, and especially the amazing acting.
It tells such a deep and emotional story, and I think it deserves more attention. That’s why I put it in my Top 5 TV shows of all time.
Here’s a video showing how great the acting is – Norman Bates is incredible!
First time watching and I have been multi-tasking, now on the Forever episode on the season 4.
First of all, I just watched the scene where Norma decided to leave Alex, and tells Norman that the two did not work out. The next scene was Norman singing a lullaby to Norma. This made me think that though Norma and Norman do not have any sexual relationship, their relationship is really awkward and it is Norma, who always gets in a weird relationship with a family member due to her weakness, wanting to rely on someone else.
When she was a child, she said she loved her brother Caleb, because he was the only thing that she could rely on. I get that, she was a child with no power. However, I cannot understand why she has an unhealthy relationship with her son as she is an adult. She just treats Norman as a pet.
I am also sad that she never loved Dylan as any mother would do. I felt so sorry for Dylan as he really wants to fit into the Norma-Norman family. He is such a good person, not loathing Norma for not loving him. He is one of the most reliable person on the show, but probably still a child. I don’t understand why Norma never realizes how lonely Dylan is due to her favoritism.
Has anyone else been watching films with Highmore as one of the leads?
Yesterday, to begin this project, I watched The Art of Getting By.
A pretty typical teenage angst drama, but Emma Roberts and Freddie Highmore really light up this otherwise dreary production with their committed performances.
I can't believe Highmore received the worst actor prize for his portrayal of George. Someone in the academy is quite the jokemaster, I think. Highmore just plays this distant character. His performance is certainly not listless.
The characters are woefully underwritten, however, especially George, which is a shame. The script is weak, but the delivery is great.
Reminds me of Todd Solondz's films which I'm not a fan of,although I used to enjoy Welcome to the Dollhouse when I was younger. The movie is just too mean.
I keep meaning to rewatch Happiness. Maybe sometime later.
What are your Highmore favorites, guys?
i forgot how better this show gets each episode. norma had just died and i am on the last episode of season 4. the only part i remember from this episode forward is norman digging his mom up which is wild. this show it just too good and makes me anxious since i forgot everything that happens (no spoilers please) i love a good suspense.
I’m watching Bates Motel for the first time and am on episode 10 of season 4. The moment where Romero rushed into the morgue demanding to see Norma’s body and put her ring on.. I started sobbing. He’s crumbling at the seams and his emotions are so raw it’s making me so fucked up😭 I rooted for them so hard and to see how they ended up before she died is insane. The fact that they argued and almost divorced before her death over Norman and she ended up dying.. I can only imagine how Romero felt.
I’m in the middle of season 5 where Dylan returns home and Norman gets himself arrested- and I’m just so confused as to why Dylan is so determined to defend Norman to police even after hearing that they found Audrey.
I understand that they’re brothers and he loves him and wants him to get help but why can’t he see that being honest about what he knows will HELP Norman get proper help even it’s through the police???? Like this is so annoying to watch. Dylan literally goes back home to investigate his own mothers death and then ends up trying to keep Norman out of jail and dance around what he knows when he could talk to police and help them get a full picture of what’s really going on.
It’s so frustrating and stupid and i hope he makes better decisions before the finale.
So I just got to the season finale of season 4 and holy guacamole, the part where he glues her eyes open 😱 ... I had to fast forward a smidge.
I just got to Norma’s death. I’m so fucking pissed. I hate Norman. I hate that he gets away with everything. I hate that he ruins everything. I hate that he gets to decide when it’s time for him to get out of pine view, I hate that he gets to decide the relationship between her and Alex is over, and I hate that he gets to decide her life is over. I hate that he gets total control. I just hate him and I’m pissed that norma died. I almost don’t wanna keep watching. I’m honestly only watching for Alex Dylan and Emma.
Is it censored? I apologize if this is a stupid question but it’s listen as tv14 so can anyone let me know if it’s the cut down version?
Yall this is my all time favorite tv show, haven’t watched it in years, only place I’ve been able to watch it is on Amazon prime and it only has 3 seasons. There’s 5 seasons of bates motel. Somebody help
I just finished Episode 3 of Season 1 last night!
It was great considering that I've seen all 3 films. (I can't seem to find the 4th film.)
I love this show sm ♡
Ok, so i recently finished a rewatch of the series. And I'm not sure who killed Norman's dad. I know Norma said it was Norman, but she's not exactly trusty worthy. And when Norman is trapped in the box and he remembers killing his teacher, I swear there is a flash of memory that shows Norma hitting someone in the head. So I personally think Norma killed Sam. Am I wrong or just crazy?
Maybe I missed it, but Norman killed Caleb, correct? Did Dylan ever find out?
Inspired slightly by Shakespeare's Sonnet 18.
The first two lines are a general comparison to other works of art(music, film, TV shows.)
Untitled
Shall I compare thee to a Bates Motel
Thou art less lovely and less temperate.
The gentle breeze does part thy curtains just a tee
whence Mother's heavy brow cast shadows on the streets
And in those shadows, Norman, thou shalt play
and kill those who hath hurt both you and me.
Thy latest she is fair as fair can be
But Mother's whispers art ticklish in thy ears;
Forget her, Norman. For in your life, there's solely room for me.
Your maiden's tongue is sharp, thy razor sharper still
Utter betrayal in her face, and watch her rouge run in rivulets,
and as she turns to wipe the tears,
plant thy blade betwixt her ribs.
The cleansing blood will wash away your guilt.
October's wind disturbs again thy dark hair and darker heart
For Hunting season begins anon.
Let thy angelic face tempt all the succubi away from their webs
Their webs of lies, infernal lies.
Let carnal thoughts summon once more murder to your side
and at the height of ecstasy, as they contort and slide,
inflict irreparable wounds with thy knife.
Oh, Norman, why does your sweet visage now crumple so?
Please, Norman, do not cry; do not repent thy crime
Those dolled-up wenches deserved to die.
They would have harmed you in the end
They would have left you, understand.
Just let me kiss away those tears.
The taste of salty metal on my lips
Their blood so sweetly mingles with your tears.
Do not regret your deeds
For theirs is a greater evil than you think
They don't deserve you
They would have hurt you
Come now, embrace me fiercer
For love is lost, and that which is true to life
is only us.
Let us depart then into oblivion together
The sweet thereafter
Forever!
I didn’t bawl until the end. I am now looking for a similar show, any suggestions?

I’m two episodes away from being done with Bates Motel. It is an amazing show! Any recommendations on what to watch next? Something similar to Bates?
Why wake the girl if he's not going to let her out?
Something I noticed about the relationship of Norman and Norma. In season 1 Norman seems more independent, he likes to meet other people his age and stuff, then Norma goes crazy and is jealous all the time. Norman often tells her "it's too much" or that he's a grown man now and needs to live life. But then he slowly becomes more and more obsessed with mother. Like in season 4 he seems more obsessed with her than Norma's with him. Anyone noticed?
