Just bought one ther other day. Actually sounds really good on my jazz with a compressor and a BDI21. Not very much low end loss and a nice touch of tubey hair. Plus purple and ghosts and zombies and bats. Win win. 40 bucks. Tried it blended with a Joyo Orthros (Boss LS-2 clone) and it was awesome. But great alone by itself. I'd say if this type of hair is what you need, give it a shit.
I see a lot of board pics where people use some kind of DI/Preamp after a modeller (insert hx stomp) and I’ve seen people say it adds a bit of analogue warmth after the digital fx.
My question is, does it actually make a difference? If so is it the DI or the Preamp?
I’m getting my Stomp this week and I’ve currently got a Joyo tidal wave I was going to put after it but will it actually do much? Do I need the preamp because I can shape the tone on the helix. And the helix has TRS, will that do the job? Or is XLR better?
I’m currently just a bedroom player but I want my board to work for it I join a band too.
I’ve been wondering about just getting a DI.
Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!
What would you put in this space on my board? I have been leaning towards a chorus pedal but my mind isn't made up yet. Signal path: Empress Comp>EMS Microbass 3 (FX loop)>Source Audio C4>EHX HOG2>Walrus Fable>Boss Slicer>Red Panda Context> FX return stereo
For those of you using a Stomp and “sweetening” the signal a bit afterwards, or just using a di/preamp because knobs are fun, what have you found works best after the Stomp? I know a lot of the gurus use the Capo, but that seems like overkill, unless I’m misusing when they actually use the other half of the Capo’s circuit.
I’ve used a Sushi Box Venus to get some tube warmth, but what to see what else the community likes. Thanks!
Hi fellow bass players. I wanted to have feedback on my pedalboard. Please be as homest as possible.
Plan to use it as a mini board for a cover band using IEMs. So far I'm really impressed with the features packed into this thing.
Hello all,
My Bass Compressor will not work at all. All of a sudden, it doesn't compress and when on, is noisy as hell. I tried to contact Dunlop, and they asked for a video. I tried to email a video, and they asked me to do a YouTube upload.
I've read on here and on the bass subs that many others have had this same problem. My question for everyone is.... Is it worth the hassle to try and get Dunlop to fix it, or should I just get an Empress and call it a day?
Needed to hear all of them to make my decision based on my desired sound. In order of arrival:
mxr m87 bass compressor (white box, if that matters) ($200) The electro-harmonix tone corset ($100) Demonfx Call76 ($75?)
So heres my opinions on all three:
MXR M87 BASS COMPRESSOR: great clean compressor. If you want just a black and white straight compression by the books this does exactly that. Great sound, dynamic levels were balanced well and felt true to tone. I did not like how my upper strings sounded with this compressor, especially while plucking single notes, they would be too loud compared to the lower strings and stick out harshly. This was tested even on a 1:16 ratio and i still did not like the tone shift. This was just my experience so YMMV. I returned the pedal.
ELECTROHARMONIX TONE CORSET: really simple pedal to dial in, and a lot of options. I love the pad feature, but i do not engage the switch since i like the snarls it allows. This had all of the dials i required (volume, tone, attack, sustain, (pad)) and added such a balanced compression that was quick to tweak. Side by side with the MXR, it handled the single note plucking loudness better, and added some nice flavor to my distorted tone. This is the pedal i kept. Also the artwork is beautiful.
Demonfx call76: this pedal sucks. I have to return it to canada because ebay, and shipping is on me. It felt like the bottom 3 knobs didnt make any noticable changes. Maybe the high pass filter works as a tone knob that boosts a freq, idk, i hated it. The total volume is significantly reduced. Almost as if it was 20% of my input before any compression. Weird issue, dont think it was my power supply. The box feels bad. And has sharp edges that will cut you. I played with the pedal for all of ten minutes trying to dial in anything passable as a sound and went right back to the tone corset. This pedal came in a few days later than the others and i almost already decided i was probably not going to keep it before it finally arrived
Just sharing because i had the time and these are popular compressors mentioned here
Finally, I have downsized my bass pedalboard yet again, leaving only the essentials.
I'm using a RockBoard DUO 2.1 and the power supply is an Ernie Ball Volt.
What are people’s opinions and experiences with these? Currently have a EHX Bass Clone and wondering what might be a good delay to add? Had been looking at the EHX canyon but unsure. TIA
I think my board is complete. Although I feel the mxr compressor is not detecting my input signal unless I really turn up the input level way up. Maybe it’s bcs I use a J bass? Anyone else experiencing this? Starting a punk rock project soon, can’t wait to start jamming with my mates.
I have access to all of the pedals on the Boss GT10B.
Hey all, apologies if this is a really basic question, but I’ve been out of the bass pedal game for a while.
I’ve been using a POD X3 since like 2010. Until now I’ve never felt the need to upgrade because it’s always done the job for me since I can attend a gig and effectively just plug in and go without altering anyone else amp settings. I like being able to load tones to it but since it’s clearly quite dated, I’m worried it’s going to conk out on me at some point.
There seems to be shit tons of alternatives but I don’t really know where to start.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
I had to save my setup accordingly to some recommended values I investigated and real values I have for each one. To my brain this is complicated to remember and to explain with other method, but Ill try. The LS2 is the key, it not only slits but blends a signal that id feeding the return of the channels and here is where all concatenation gets co-dependent on the other chain, so here, hope it helps.

Im trying to assemble a pedalboard/bass rig like the picture and want to take advantage of the simplifier's parallel fx loops. Im pretty new to this so I wanted to ask if this layout is fine or Im missing something, besides where should I put an envelope filter
In a heavy fuzz band
Bought this to add octave to the filter and synth patches in the HX One which houses my main octavers. Not gonna complain for $40 bucks. Modeled after an OC-2 but it’s missing some of the synthiness that the original has. Output is too on the -1 oct to run without the dry signal so I wouldn’t use this as a main but it’s doing exactly what I bought it for. LED is mellow so that’s nice. 6/10 pedal very happy with it.
Dont really have a budhet, just need a good pre amp/ di for my bass, heard darkglass is pretty good
I'm trying to record bass at a consistent frequency without clipping. I thought a compressor might be the solution, but maybe it's an EQ pedal I need for that?
If you own the Warden compressor (or any compressor), what's an ideal setup for recording bass? Emphasis on avoiding clipping.
I have a TS9b that I love, and I love the farty nature of it. But I want the texture to be a little grainier, if that makes sense. It definitely has the right amount of overdrive to achieve this. It’s just the texture is a little too full and kept together. Any ideas? Specifically for EQ adjustments.
If it matters, this is my chain.
Bass -> Equalizer -> TS9B -> Sansamp (SVT mode)
Got myself an Xotic Bass BB Preamp and it was exactly what I hoped for - a low to mid gain drive to push the BDDI a bit harder and get that nice clunky drive tone. Have only tested it running at 9V, will give 18V a go at the weekend.
Just sold my Morley Fuzz Wah, boss ds1 and poly blue octave to fund a more practical and versatile set up. I got a Sansamp VT DI/preamp pedal which sounds so excellent so far, and I'm thinking of expanding with a bass clone chorus, the cheapest tuner I can find, an envelope filter and possibly a fuzz or overdrive of sorts when I want the preamp of the VT on a more clean tone. Does anyone have some recommendations on what power supply and board would be good for this? In the past I've always just had the pedals on the floor all on a daisy chain into a plug socket so in inexperienced with what would work best Does the quality/ value of tuner matter? Im thinking of getting some stagg tuner for £30 just to save. Any recommendations for a fuzz with a blend and an envelope filter would be appreciated too. Thanks :))
Hey all I'm looking for a simple to use compressor, saw a bbe opto stomp used, is it still worth picking up?
Pedaleboard is done!! Simple but good
