why do most basketball players don’t gain weight in college but gain weight once the get into the nba
I've been playing basketball for a while, and I'm pretty good at shooting when not defended, but the moment a defender is there I literally airball from the key. I usually side step and do a jumpshot, and it works for getting myself open to shoot but then I airball. Even when I am open from the start I'll usually just see a defender coming out of the corner of my eye, panic, and throw up a bad shot and airball I also have extreme trouble with aggressive defense, and usually end up off balanced and just do anything I can to get the ball out of my hands. Obviously I should practice doing these things, but the majority of my open practice time is alone. Should I just focus on engraving good form into my brain? Should I try quickly shooting out of moves done on imaginary defenders? Is there some other 3rd option I don't know about?
So this year was my first year taking basketball seriously, which kind of put me behind some of the other players. Ive been practicing for hours everyday, and I have seen a lot of improvement in the basics, however I struggle to improve in actual game playing. During practice, we will run 5v5s, and I feel like nothing that I practice translates to games or scrimmages. Because of this, I haven’t had the chance to actually play in a real game, meaning I can’t get any game experience, which is what I need. How can I improve? This is the main thing that is setting me back, I need tips.
I tried out for high school basketball as a freshman and made JV. Initially it went good and I got my first bucket in the first game. But then more multi-sport athletes tried out and I essentially got moved down to the frosh team along with some kids that I knew from JV. The coach decided to let me choose JV or frosh and I need to make a decision. I play poorly on JV and will not have a good season but I feel like I could improve the raw mechanics of my game by playing with JV. On the other hand, playing frosh would give me more minutes and allow me to change from a big to a guard. Also I would gain the playing experience that I lack and could have a better season. The frosh coach also makes people condition a lot which I would not look forward to because I'm a big right now but I know I need to be quick to make the switch and I know slower kids in that team so I think I could do fine. Please help me? I know frosh sounds like a good option but remember, I would need to learn new plays and everything before I get to ever touch the court.
14-year-old here (grade 9). It was my first high school game, and as a point guard, I dropped 11 points, three assists and two steals, but there was a guy who is the center who dropped 25 and 0 assists because he is a ball hog. My friends already had warned me about him but i didn’t thought that it would be this bad, and the coaches doesn’t say shit. While playing club i average double double with 14-20 points a game. What should i do because i wanna go pro level and need some clips of my game? I don’t know but what can i do, i don’t think nobody in the leauge can guard me ( Ik i sound cocky but :D) what should i do?
My daughter was in a league with 5, 6 and 7 year olds playing with a size 5 ball. She’s now in a different league playing with 7 and 8 year olds(she’s 7) and they’re playing with a size 6 ball. Everything I’ve read online says to use a size 5 ball until the age of 11, is this going to hurt her shot using a bigger ball? She is already struggling to shoot it on a nine foot goal but she is shooting the correct way where as the other kids are kind of launching it with two hands and getting it further
I have basketball tryouts for my school soon any tips?
I know this is long but please read it!
I want to know what nba player I play like or what play style I need to practice. (If that makes sense) I'm in 5th grade, 5'2 ish, and most times I play PF and sometime C. I can play at the 3 also. I'm a rough 145. I can do mostly everything. Maybe not greatly, but for my league, it works. I can shoot, I have decent handles, I'm not slow, I have good IQ on the court, my finishing is good, and my playmaking is decent.
My weaknesses:
Left hand
3pt shooting
Floaters
Fadeaways
My strengths: Mid range In paint finishing/ free throws All defense Passing And post playing.
Any help or tips?
Can’t guard a good shooter and driver because I’m slow on my feet and I can’t jump fast enough to block. I’m already doing plyos and weight lifting but it’s more for my vert even if it also helps explosiveness so I was wondering what are your guys best exercises for these
In practice today I drove to the basket, but then a smaller defender stole the ball from me. How do I practice shielding the ball from smaller defenders and in general?
I had 3 zero point games in a row how can I get my confidence back?
I’m pretty much a beginner at this game. I joined a program when I was 8 but I didn’t like it so since then I haven’t really payed any attention to basketball but about 2 years ago I got into the NBA and basketball in general but I’ve pretty much only played in my backyard and one time in a park. My main question is though, if I want to play overseas in a couple (5-10) years and make a couple 100,000 dollars from it, is 16 too late for most or is it still very possible to make it? If so where should I begin
Looking for best shoes for stability. My doctor said that most shoes tend to roll towards the outside and I need something that is neutral (won’t tend towards the inside or outside). I will be talking with my pt about this next week but wanted to hear your input. I use ankle braces as well, if that makes a difference.
I am 6’2-6’3 and used to be pretty explosive. I am coming off an ankle/heel surgery and want to slowly work my way back to dunking.
Edit: my shoes before surgery were the new balance two wxy v5
It’s a tournament like set up you don’t win anything but i just don’t wanna lose. Im the only person that’s plays basketball and ik 2 friends on my team which are ok only good for rebounding, defence and making random shots.
THE OTHER 6 TEAMS got people that can play they got teammates and subs for the situation and im PRACTICALLY ALL BY MYSELF.
Anyways im pros are dribbling no ones locked me up yet and my shooting is nice but i want it to be unstoppable.
I think i need to work on stamina, consistency and explosive power or speed. Idk how long i got to prepare but i’ll do everything to work for it.
Has anybody tried both of them out? The reason I specifically said caves in because it says that their materials are more sustainable/better quality.
Hi basketball experts,
I’ve been playing basketball for 15 years, mostly as a center, and my coaches rarely let me dribble or shoot beyond the 3-point line.
Recently, my coaches have started trusting me more since I spent the whole summer working on my shot. However, my ball-handling still frustrates me. I feel like I lack confidence when facing defensive pressure—almost like I’m too afraid of committing turnovers.
Do you have any dribbling drills or tips to help me feel more comfortable and confident in these situations? Just to clarify, I’m not trying to become a point guard—my dream role is to play power forward—so I don’t need Kyrie-level handles!
Thanks in advance!
I'm a complete beginner in basketball, I've been playing for a few weeks and I want to learn how to finish better, I only know how to do the common diagonal layup and I want to add new finishes to my resume.
Hi All,
Playing in a veterans league after 10 years off. Trying to practice my dribbling form as I'm struggling (43 YO) to even do a cross over. Any tips to practice in the garage on a daily basis to get better?
Lets just say if I had the body of a d1 basketball player muscle and height. How long would it take to get the knowledge of one? Assuming I have knowledge from early hs basketball and the physique.
