Top 8 Finish: Revenue Implications in the 2024/25 UCL Format

    Hello fellow Culers,

With the new 2024/25 UEFA Champions League format, finishing in the top 8 means Barça advances directly to the Round of 16, skipping the knockout play-offs. While this is advantageous competitively, it raises a question:

Could bypassing these additional matches result in less revenue for the club?

For once if we have all our defenders injury free and available, what should be our first choice backline like? Inigo has been on fire and so has Cubarsi but when Christensen and Araujo come back we will be stacked there.

Thoughts on the new Nike deal

TL;DR: not necessarily a good deal. Not necessarily bad. Basically sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit.

Looking at these deals, one of the most important factors besides actual cash is the length of the contract. In the end it's a gamble on how the brand of FCB develops the next 14 years - Barca would never have been offered these amounts 2-3 years ago, so the question is what is the brand worth in 14 years.

Basically locking into an over decade-long sponsorship prevents us from taking advantage of potentially better offers, and makes us static while the market is moving. Imagine if we had signed a deal like this 10-15 years ago, with a fixed amount every year. But that could also be said the other way around; imagine if we fail to reach top5 in the league for a decade.

Obviously we don't know the details. But even the dollar value changes a lot over such a period of time, and we have no clue what the world looks like in 5-10 years. Of course a deal like this is also lucrative in the sense that it guarantee us a steady stream of revenue regardless of our performance and achievements.

Anyways, if the most important thing is 1) length of contract, the second most important thing (if not equally important) in these deals should be

1a) the financial structure of our club, what our revenue stream consist of and how much of our revenue source comes from these deals.

If for instance 80% of our revenue stream comes from kit manufacturer, we have a huge problem because €1 in 2024 isn't the same as €1 in 2038. And here's the thing. These deals are always blown completely out of proportion - with a bit of exaggeration they have little to no effect on the economy as a whole.

Here's my summary of a breakdown of our economy:

Revenue SourceAmount (€ million)Percentage of Total Revenue
    Total Operating Income1,259100%
    Commercial Activities35127.9%
    Revenue from Stadium Operations22718.0%
    Broadcasting Rights23919.0%
    Revenue from Player Transactions15912.6%
    Other Operating Income28322.5%

    ^^^FCB ^^^Economic ^^^Report

I don't know what "other operating income" consists of (maybe someone else has a better idea?).

With our current deal with Nike we get approximately €85 million per season. So about 24.2% ((85/351)×100≈24.2%) of our commercial revenue is estimated to come from the current Nike deal. €120M a year is approximately 9,5% of the total revenue, and €150M (which is what some speculate we could get in 3-5 years merely based on market movements) a year is approximately 12% of the total revenue.

Ideally you want the biggest portion of your club's revenue stream to come from broadcasting rights because these contracts typically adhere are 3-5 years (side note, that's also why the CVC deal is so retarded).

Basically you have to assess yourself if you want to "deadlock" 25% of 30% of your revenue stream for the next 14 years.

Bridgeburg and this whole Barca Vision thing

Just to clarify I am not a Barcelona fan and don't know much about what's happening with the club and it's finance.

I just want to ask about this whole Barca Vision thing and what it is. I'll share what I know about it. Saying it once more I DON'T KNOW MUCH AT ALL ABOUT THIS STUFF SO PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG.

So Germany-based LIBERO football finance AG and private investors have poured 120 million in this Barca Vision thing where they have acquired 29.5% stake of the same.

Till now I haven't been able to understand anything about this so can somebody explain it to me?

This is my conclusion which may be miles off the truth so don't just bash me also this is from an outsider's perspective:- All of this is just some random stuff Laporta and the board came up with to raise funds in a sort of investment scheme. This is what I feel like at the very least. Instead of going to the bank you guys went to an investment firm, convinced them, then gave them a guarantee sort of thing to pay this money back after a certain period of time with "INTEREST" just not on paper. Say suppose you pay them 130 or 140 or 150 or whatever may the amount be.

I might be completely wrong and the way I have presented it might seem like childish (intentional so that it's just easier to have a discussion).

    Again do not bash me!

Raphinha isn’t going to be “replaced” just because we sign another winger

Listen I’m in the minority and think we should sign Leao. He is a fantastic player and anyone who thinks he is lazy or not worth it, in my respectful opinion is wrong.

Signing someone like Leao doesn't mean he's going to replace Raphinha, idk why people keep thinking this. It's another addition that boasters the attack tremendously, just like the Olmo signing. He offers us a different profile from one we don't currently have. Especially with the long season and all the different competitions the club has. This team needs to constantly rotate the starting XI. It's not reasonable now a days to have the same starting 11 every match day. Leao is also a massive upgrade on Fati and Ferran Torres.

Imo we should sell Ferran Torres and replace him with Leao or somehow include him in the deal to get Leao.

Robert Lewandowski extension till summer 2026.

According to Sport.es, the coaching staff of the Catalan club, headed by German coach Hansi Flick, wants Robert Lewandowski to continue playing in Barcelona. "Lewy" has a three-year contract with "Blaugrana" with the option to extend the contract for another season on worse financial terms.

So far, the agreement with Barca included an annual salary progression - currently he earns EUR 30 million a year. The cooperation clause for the fourth year includes a condition of reducing earnings, which the 36-year-old is ready to accept.

At the same time, the Blaugrana camp is considering the possibility of adding another striker to the rotation, which would provide the 36-year-old Pole with the necessary rest. The publication added that the Pole's impressive form cooled down Barca's interest in the Norwegian "bombardier" Erling Haaland.

The list of candidates for Barca's new center forward starts with the Swedish sniper of Sporting Lisbon, Viktor Gyökeres, who is being sought by the sports director of the "Pride of Catalonia" Deco. The 26-year-old Swede is also a transfer priority for Manchester United, where the Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim, who joined Old Trafford from Sporting, will start work next week.

Gyökeres is also of interest to Chelsea London and Arsenal London. Therefore, it will be difficult for Barcelona to win the competition with wealthier English clubs. The Swedish sniper's release clause is EUR 80 million, but the Lions are willing to sell the striker for up to EUR 60 million.

The coaching staff want slowly add new forward as backup next season and in prospect to take over striker position in 2026/27
