Hi everybody I have like probably 5 questions. I’m a newbie here I have lots of frs radios.
Can I program it here in Canada? On the retevis can i program a license exempt frs radio you cannot change both channels and frequencies.
Are frs radios license exempt in North America both Canada and United States?
Can anyone recommend me a cool license free frs radios? in both Canada and United States.
What are rules about frs here in Canada and USA?
Thanks (:
CUANDO TRANSFIERO O EXPORTO DATOS DEL WALKIE A CHIRP NO ME PERMITE TRANSMITIR MAS. AYUDA POR FAVOR.
Is there much difference in range or reception in a 771 style whip antenna vs a caatail style antenna? A caatail antenna would be nice to keep in my bag since it would roll up, but also to be able to route it through a backpack or plate carrier to keep it out of the way. But I don't want to sacrifice range
I bought two of these from two different sellers. The first one had the antenna fall apart and then when it was tilted one way or another it would lose signal completely. That one lasted a few months before that happened. The second one took a bit longer but it failed in the same way. At least the (fake) antenna remained intact. I really liked the form factor and the large battery. The speaker was great too until the wires came off on the first one. I never had a problem with my other Baofengs (Bf-F8HP's, UV5's, 5RM's). Baofeng did so many things right with the UV-25, unfortunately they couldn't make it dependable. I really liked this radio for breaking out of the form factor of their legacy radios. Come on Baofeng, get your crap together. These two UV-25's are now in the trash.
I found a good deal on this bow thing and I want to know what type of antenna I should get for it, male or female antenna? Please help guys.. Here's the product.
I have a Baofeng uv-16 pro and a Tidradio bluetooth programmer and don't seem to see this model on this list, is there another model i could use to program it. I want to use this uv-16 just for emergency frequency only, just monitor them for any info I can hear in emergencies situation. I don't plan on transmitting on it just listen. I have plenty of radios for talking and more comcoming. I'm GMRS and studying for ham license now.
So, just looking at this as a possibility.
I’ve got my licenses, and have multiple radios that I enjoy for both GMRS and amateur. The issue I have with them is that they’re not really rugged/waterproof.
What I’m looking for is something waterproof and rugged, and with a lot of available frequencies or the ability to have the frequencies unlocked/programmed. While I know this is a ‘no-no’, it’s something I’d like in the unlikely event I ever need it.
I’ve already got independent GPS and analog navigational skills, etc.. and am not super interested in digital/messaging, etc… unless someone here has experience and wants to make a case for it.
Most likely, it’ll sit in my safe for the majority of my life. However, if shit ever got weird and I needed to be able to transmit/receive on multiple different bands, I’d like the ability to do it and not have to worry about getting a little dust/water on it.
I’ve looked at the uv-pro, but that seems to have a lot of features I may not need, and I’m worried about the battery life and complication of it. I really just want to be able to program mass frequencies and be able to tx/rx on them if the time ever came.
Of course, with the legalities, I certainly only mean if we had a power grid, food, government, etc.. issue.
Thanks in advance for any insight.
I’ll post my nighttime comms setup just for some attention to the post. Speaking of which, it’d be really nice if the radio suggestion had either a k1 interface for PTT’s/programming or a 6 pin. I can also get an adapter if needed though.
I have the UV-5R TP-5 model. Looking for some extended batteries. I tried four of the BTech 3800 mah but they don’t fit securely or at all. I couldn’t find anything on Baeofeng’s website or Amazon. Am I screwed?
I have a Baofeng UV 16 radio which I quite like and use a a scanner when out and about.
I wanted to buy a spare battery for backup. Found that for a few more $$ not much. I could purchase a whole new uv-16 radio kit with radio, battery, antenna and charger cradle. I went for that option instead. I got my battery and a new radio as well on AE including free shipping. Much better deal than buying the battery on its own.
Help!
I got a shiny new 17 today and I'm trying to get it set up with CHIRP. When I go to download the original file to CHIRP, I get an error message about it not being the right amount of data.
Has anybody else expierenced this? Is there a work around, or am I stuck with an orange FM receiver?
Thanks!
Edit: the cable worked fine nit 5 minutes before with my 82. Also, when I try copying the file from the radio, the computer icon appears on the screen so I'm sure the cable is making good contact.
Recently got back into the baofeng game and picked up a UV-17R off amazon. I am also working on getting my license, so don’t chastise me just yet. How do you all have your radios settings configured for best use? TIA
I was looking to buy the AR but accidentally bought uv 5rm. I notice the mistake and then bought AR 5rm. For you guys out there. Should I keep both or return one and buy a different radio or other stuff.
Any possible fix for this? Originaly from radio made easy if that helps.
Kenwood TK-880 K to UV5R8W
Im lost when it comes to pulling settings out of this Kenwood tk880k. I fumbled my way around and found the following numbers and would like to know how I can set up a Baofeng UV-5r8w to listen and talk. We have a bunch of the 880s on the farm and it would be nice to have a handheld or 2 laying around.

Hi, I think I know how to solve above problem with communication. I tested it in situation when computer correctly install the programming cable driver but CHIRP shows connection error no matter what radio you choose from menu (TIDRADIO TD-H6 or Radioddity GA-510). Tested on: PC Windows 10 64bit. CHIRP-next-20241014 (the newest from official CHIRP website) Prolific programming cable (this with "Baofeng" logo on the USB connector). Radio Baofeng BF-H6 10 watt (I bought it 14.10.2024)
The most important things you must do before connecting radio to PC:
I leave other settings set to default but I recommend to turn off DCS and CTCSS and Roger. I also have turn off the Beap and Voice communicates but I think this is irrelevant.
With all this set you do everything like they say in instruction but with one change, in CHIRP you choose "Radioddity GA-510". I hope this help someone and greetings from Poland.
PS: If I find something else I add it in future.
I’m brand new to amateur radio. I’m looking for a subtle way to listen to my radio while walking around the park. All the clear earbuds with coiled wires on Amazon will make me look like I’m in the secret service, so I thought I’d use my regular earbuds with a 2.5mm to 3.5mm jack adapter.
However, it doesn’t sound right, I only hear clicks when scanning between frequencies, and I haven’t been able to hear anyone transmitting (although I don’t hear transmissions very often).
Should this work? I’m definitely connected to the SP (speaker?) jack. Earbuds work when connected to my phone.
My first radio was a UV-5R 8 Watt radio,, then when it came time to get another j got a UV-5RM 10 watt, now im seing the UV-9R radios which are 20 watt
I like the idea of having a powerful handheld radio as i use it as my main truck and camp radio, so i might as well ask is there any other more powerful Baufeng radio out there than the 9R 20 watt? Does wattage directly translate to broadcasting strength?
I have active headset and AR152 and Uv5R radios. After programing with Chirp when i press ptt button if the antena is near it shutdown my headset. I try reseting radios, check all csbles. I read that chirp messed tx n radio somehow. Any chance to solve this issues?
Hey guys. I made an pizza pan antenna with this type of coax and I can not for the life of me figure out the adapter. I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks 😊
Has anyone run across one? When I bought them I didn't realize the bases were different and my AR's don't sit in my UV's 6 unit charger.
I got ht for some Time and my friend Just got the htq version and we cant tell the difference
I can't get anything on it. I've heard nothing but static no matter want I do. Any suggestions?
I wanna buy this radio but I wanna know If it is really 15 watts
On Amazon they seem the same. Both are 5 watt tri band radios that are upgraded versions of the UV5R. Anyone know the difference? Is there a difference?
I manage an Airsoft team with a focus on milsim style play. I'm looking for recommendations for a radio similar to the UV-5R that is legal to use on GRMS. I'm also willing to get my armature license if it means better options. Some environments we play in don't always lend to GRMS or FRS and I've thought about something like a portable repeater (if that even is a thing).
