Allah-u-Abha everyone! Graduating soon (from uni) and will start to work on lots of updates for the Mithqal Calculator (on my free time) (link to OG post Here).
Updates for V2 include:
If there is anything else (or any other ideas you think is needed that can somewhat be of service to humanity, please let me know! I love learning and want to practice coding!
Alla'u'abah my friends I'd like to meet other developer friends who can help me design applications. I'm 20 years old ,I live in Africa
If you need to calculate how many Mithqals of Gold/Silver are in your currency, this website I made does that. It will also update the rates of the metals and currency once a day (I may change it to 4 times a day). The time stamp of when it was updated is below the calculation.
Please let me know if you have any feedback!
If you would like to help with development or raise an issue, the repo is here:
Allah-u-Abha, friends!
Seems like at least once a year I sit down and add 30 some dates from the Baha'i Calendar to my Google Calendar.
As this goes against the virtue of laziness, I ask, has anyone published a calendar I can subscribe to or published a file I can import? My local community relies on me for tech stuff like this, so I will be putting in on our locally shared calendar.
hi everyone! my name is yara and I am a Baha’i youth from the US. I created this podcast called The Spirit of Success is a Baha’i-inspired podcast and video interview program that delves into the ideas of the importance of engaging in service and making it a part of our lives and careers, the meaning of success, the role of youth in society, creating a better world, exploring careers, and learning more about your favorite professionals and celebrities all in one interview. the program is for everyone of all different faiths and I hope it inspires you all <3 if you like the program or just want to support, I would appreciate it if you would please subscribe to the YouTube channel to help the message of the shows and the guest who come on reach more people and youth around the world ❤️🤗🙏🌎🌍🌏 Click here to watch and subscribe! hope you like it!!
I was just noticing that links posted by the bot go to insecure http pages which is probably becoming increasingly more of a problem as websites discontinue their non HTTPS servers.
One of the many software projects I don't have time to do is to compute the shortest unique phrases in each of the hidden words to use as the title of a song version of it. There are too many songs titled "O Son of Man" :D
Anyone have any expertise in anything like this? I think I could brute force it but as I may have mentioned, free time is at a premium. While I am a professional software engineer, I'm generally self-taught and don't have a lot of experience with the library of standard algorithms that comes from college classes.
I think this same idea would help for prayers as well.
We’re a small group of Baha’i developers who are looking to expand our group as we ramp up the development process for a software project aimed at addressing particular challenges facing Baha’i youth who are becoming new members of their communities. Specifically, we’re looking for full-stack web developers and mobile application developers.
So far, we’ve been conducting research into patterns of engagement of Baha’i youth in different communities around the world, with a particular focus on Europe and North America. Among Baha’i youth who are new to their communities either through being newly-declared or having moved to a new place, we’ve found common challenges around engagement in community activities and service. We’re in the early stages of developing a digital solution that can address these issues.
If you’re interested in getting involved, send us an email at mybahaiasst@gmail.com.
Also, we’re still collecting data about how Baha’i youth are engaged in their communities. You can fill in our survey here: https://forms.gle/wBrXUizf3b6zabiX7.
Thanks y’all :)
Hello friends,
My dream is to contribute to the unification of mankind. The way I'd like to do that is through this interfaith research app called Immerse. I've gone through many developers who have shown some interest and couldn't finish. I won't give up until I find a developer (iOS) who shares this vision and is willing to volunteer time to make this app a reality. If you know someone who might, please share this with them.
Here is a mockup of Immerse: https://projects.invisionapp.com/share/VY2QQ54F5#/screens/70471337
And here is a walkthrough of its functionalities: https://youtu.be/EDrzLIw8iPM

I've dabbled in taking online courses on python and javascript and the like and know basic level coding but have never gotten to higher level stuff. I am considering taking a coding bootcamp (any ideas? let me know...).
Anyway, I'd like to create a "daily writings" program. What I envision is something simple where I double click an icon on my desktop in the morning and am presented with a snippet of text that is part of the holy writ. Do the same thing in the evening. This way I won't just half-heartedly reach for the Hidden Words and read one of them but will have a new, random passage from Baha'u'llah that appears for me when I read each morning and evening.
I'm sure this sounds insanely simple to you folks but I'd also like to use it as a project to help me work on my coding skills. Can anybody suggest the best way to create a small program/applet that can be double clicked in windows? It seems to me like python might be best for this but i obviously have no clue.
Just a couple of questions, out of curiosity.
What's your experience of being a game dev as a Bahá'í?
Have you ever worked on Bahá'í-inspired projects? If so, how did it go?
As a project this weekend I've been setting up and learning Ledger, a command line plain-text accounting system.
I was listening to an episode of the FLOSS weekly podcast featuring the creator of Ledger, John Wiegley, at 33:00 he mentions he is a Bahá'í and that calculating Huqúqu'lláh was part of the inspiration for the software.
FLOSS Weekly 150: Ledger https://youtu.be/TDqrrH-gTt0?t=33m
Anyone else here using Ledger? I'm still learning and reading the documentation, but so far I love it.
Wanna sink hundreds of hours into making this app? Hehe 😉 I doubt anyone will be available to commit to this to the end, but I thought I would throw it out there, Hail Mary attempt, in case anyone is interested. I started the design of this app about four years ago, hired an awesome UI designer to make the detailed mock up prototypes, and then over the years went through 5 developers that have consecutively one and all dropped out from working on it. So at this point I’m kind of pessimistic it’ll ever get done.
Deep down inside I really believe this app will transform the way we study interfaith scriptures. Just like oceans did for people around the world in the 90s. It’s awesome. I also have all the sacred texts in txt format. Anyway, take a look at the mock up, it’s very comprehensive, and play around with it if you like. Immerse Mockup

facebook page Feel free to add me and dm me on Facebook “Shahrooz Shadbakht” I’m open to discussing it with you there.
I have a poser for you all relating to the recent changes to the implementation of the Badi' calendar. Let's say you have a calendar app that needs to tell you when the Nineteen-day Feasts are. The only date libraries you have to work with are ones that operate on the Gregorian date system. The problem is that, now that the Badi' calendar is completely decoupled from the Gregorian system, we can't say that, e.g., the Feast of Nur falls on Jun 5; it could fall the day before or after, too. So how would you implement a function which, given the current (Gregorian) year, will always give you the correct date for Feasts?
Hey everyone,
I've created a sample document to request the Unicode Consortium to develop a 9 pointed star emoji. Given there are other religions that have their respective emojis, it would be cool to have Baha'i represented.
The following is a document available for all to edit (I'll supervise it from time to time)

In maximum 10 bullet points, describe your professional background.
I'm wondering what everyone's expertise and talents are. Created this thread to address it.
Apart from maintaining a few blogs, I've been busiest with developing the back-end for /u/bahaibot, which is a Python script that uses PRAW as an interface to Reddit (see its wiki page) . It's my first time playing with Python, and I'm really liking it so far.
What interesting projects are you all working on?
I came across an interesting note in the acknowledgements section of the book Mahatma Gandhi and the Bahá'ís. The author writes:
I also take the liberty, perhaps a little unusual, of thanking the creators of the free software I used to write this book. This book was written using the TEX and LATEX typesetting software using the GNU Emacs editor, often on systems running Linux. Aside from being among the best such software available at the time of writing, they are also completely free, consistent with the Gandhian ideal that intellectual property should be for the common good of all, rather than for the private gain of a small elite.
Finally, I thank God.
I'm curious to know, what do Bahá'í developers think of the GNU Manifesto and the Free Software Movement in general?
