Baconit - End Of An Era, But The Start Of Many More

Hello, all of you Windows Phone holdouts. :)

It's been a long time since I posted here, and I know this subreddit has become a bit of a ghost town. Surprisingly there's some activity on this subreddit related to Baconit, but by now, I think it's become apparent the app is quite dead.

Baconit was a fantastic chapter of my life. It opened so many doors for me and allowed me to meet so many incredible people. I have always coded side projects because I genuinely enjoy solving problems and creating something a community loves. Baconit was the perfect project for me, and it just so happened to also fit perfectly into the Windows Phone ecosystem.

My hands down favorite memory of Baconit has to be the April fools joke. Due to a bug in the logic, the prank happened every year, but I never fixed it because the comments were just as fun to read as the years past. Here's an example of a comment thread. 🤌

So as I close this subreddit, I'm feeling nostalgic and am curious if anyone else wants to share their path from the good old Windows Phone days to now.

I'll go first. I'm still at Microsoft; it's been ten years now! I feel like I have worked on a bit of everything: Windows Phone, Internet Explorer, Mixer, xCloud, and now Mixed Reality. I have a new side project, which is OctoEverywhere.com. Much like Baconit, after I started toying with 3D printing, I found a problem the community faced that I thought I could solve. I began to write a prototype, shared it with the community, and the service took off from there!

The best part of Baconit was always all of you, so from the bottom of my heart, thanks for coming along on the journey.

Galaxy Quest reference?

Just now I got a message saying that Baconit couldn't connect to a subreddit. What got my attention was the message headline: "That's not right!" I immediately thought of Galaxy Quest., when Guy looks down at Laliari & Fred getting it on alien-style on the floor and says: ".....That's.....not......right!" Please tell me that reference was intentional.

Verify Account in Baconit

Hi all. A long time ago I lost access to my Reddit account due to a mismanaged a password manager. I have not been able to login to my account on a website or the official Reddit app. The only way I can use my almost decade old account is by using Baconit. Is there a way I an get my Reddit account verified though this app?

Baconit for Windows Phone Stopped Working

My app keeps saying "We can't update this subreddit right now, check your Internet connection" all day. Is it something that can be fixed or is the app just RIP?

Also, thanks for supporting WP for so long!

Edit: It's working again! :)

Please bring this app to Android

I've been a windows10mobile user since day1. When I discovered this app I immediately fell in love with it.

I was recently force to switch to android. The official reddit app is ages behind this client in every aspect: weight, responsiveness, usability. Everything.

I still use Baconit on my PC with windows10 but I mourn not having this experience anymore on my phone. Please consider bringing it to Android too!

Trying to download Baconit without Windows 10 Store

I've been hearing so much about Baconit and I decided that I wanted to give it a try; rather than using Chrome all the time to access reddit. However, every link that I see for Baconit connects back to the Microsoft store. That site is blocked on our corporate internet so I can't get it from there. Is there any place that I can download Baconit without getting it from the Microsoft store? Thanks in advance.

LLAP 🖖,
Migs

[windows 10] only use a wallpaper above a set size.

I have a 1366 x 768 screen but tonnes of the wallpapers available are too small and are pixelated. Can I choose ones that only match my screen size or larger?

Baconit not playing v.reddit gifs properly

I really like Baconit and its UI, but the fatal flaw with it is that whenever I play a gif that is linked from v.reddit, it doesn't load up the gif and play it but instead load up the reddit page the gif originated from, and because my screen is super small, I can only see half of the gif. Does anyone have a fix for this issue?

Spell Check - How To?

Hello

My Windows is in Italian and everytime I'm writing a post in Baconit using English, like right now, it highlights literally every word... Since I can't see any setting to specify my language within the app (or maybe turn spell checking off), what other options do I have?

Thanks

Baconit for Windows+Phone broken?

When I load the app on Windows Phone 10 and Windows 10 desktop, I get a notification that the subreddits cannot be loaded, and to check my Internet connection. I guess it's time to look for alternatives?

Search broken?

It seems that anything flagged as "nsfw" are impossible to find with the search function. Posts, comments, and subs - none show up. I'm not seeing a setting that enables/disables this... I'm guessing a recent reddit-side update caused it?

[Bug/Issue] Hottest post sorting is actually showing Best post sorting

Ever since Reddit unveiled the new stupid algorithm a few days/weeks ago, BaconIt isn't working well since it doesn't have a "Best" sorting mode in the app, so the "Hot" sorting is showing the best sorting instead.

This is different from other official reddit app, and I'm unfortunately being forced away from BaconIt due to the lack of true Hot sorting.

Is this on the radar of the team to get fixed?

New user, wonderful app! A few notes.

First and foremost thank you for this wonderful app, you've made my Windows 10 experience that much better just by making this app. I used to browse reddit on my phone like a chump just because I literally don't want to click and press back (or open tabs for that matter), it's kind of a dumb reason, but interface does play a huge role in user experience, I'm not the ideal person to be an example, but shit, I know for a fact that browsing using my computer is much faster and efficient, yet I feel gross about it, it feels like work, something psychological I guess?

Anyway, it's marvellous, it's really awesome! That being said, I do have a few notes.

  • There seems to be a lack of display of karma/points in the profile page and the inbox. I'm used to apps showing karma everywhere it can be shown; inbox, profile, in posts history, in comments history, everywhere.
  • The search subreddit function doesn't work at all.
  • If there's a way we could see our saved content (comments and posts) that would be great!

I've only used it for about an hour, it's mostly comfortable aside from those things. Keep up the good work guys! Thanks!

Some feedback, Baconit for Windows Phone

I find that image/previews are tiny to be viewed without opening a post. Please give an update where i can preview images/videos of posts in a subreddit, at a reasonable size without opening them.

Never have mentioned a specific type of product on reddit. Have only talked about it.

Does this app listen to your voice to give you ad suggestions? I have an ad about a very specific product that ive never searched for nor posted about

Couple of requests

Any chance 'resize text' is happening? Also in sub headline pane, 'titleofsub' lable is dark on black, nearly impossible to see on a laptop screen with brightness turned up. Is there a setting for this already, or?

Thanks.

App crash at launch on Windows Phone 10

Not sure if there was an update to the app or Windows Phone to cause this, but now whenever I launch Baconit on my phone it hangs at the loading screen for a second and then crashes back to the home screen. It has been doing this for about a day or two now.
