I came across this fire axe while antique shopping and now I'm wondering if I should have bought it. I read online that this pattern is somewhat rare?
Can an Estwing hatchet be reprofiled for a carving edge?
Hey! Anyone who knows what purpose an axehead like this serves? Also curious why it's "Banco" instead of the usual "Banko"
Thanks!
Can anyone tell me a reliable way to remove rust off of an axe head. I have a double sided axe that I am looking to restore and I do not know any proper ways to remove rust. Every method I see gets contradicted by another and I do not know which one I should do.
Got a new 6lbs maul. It’s lighter than a usual maul, but I’m splitting mostly smaller rounds so it’s a delight!
Hi all,
I need advice from any Canadians here!
Looking to sell and send an axe to Canada however I’m not sure on whether the hickory handle will cause any issues through customs?
Any advice is appreciated, thank you!
I worked in the Bob Marshall Wilderness for about a decade in my 20s. Grew to love the double bit “saddle axe” I carried those years. Have since accumulated many full sized ones for ranch use. Most from farm auctions etc. Just wondering about some of the names I could look for as being more rare/collectible.
No real plans to sell or even really display lol…just kind of want to be educated about them 😊
On another note regarding my time with USFS/wilderness time - there were like 6 big wooden crates of Royal Chinook crosscut saws in the warehouse. I recall 5’ to 7’ saws, maybe like 50 in each crate! Now in my older age, thinking about those beauties just sitting there is absolutely “sawporn!”
I've just received my new helko werk axe from Amazon, as they were doing a really good BF on the one I wanted. Lovely bit of kit but the edge is as blunt as a spoon. My GB hatchet came razor and so I was expecting the same here. Am I just being picky or should send it back. I could sharpen it myself but it has kind of dampened my enthusiasm for the axe, I expect things to come new in perfect condition. Generally, do HW axes come blunt?
So I recently got some cheap ass tomahawks to play with and I’m wondering what I can use to protect them. The crappy paint coating is wearing off. I want to take them to a wire wheel and get all that junk off and then use oxpho blue or super blue. Is there anything else like oxpho blue I could use? Vinegar, aqua fortis? Just not sure, new to this. Thanks!
This escalated far to quickly. I already don't have shop space 😔
Hi all I have had a Collins legitimus axe that I've used for trapping since a was a kid. It's got no major putting and a nice clear stamp. What would be a ballpark value?
I got this small hatchet as a kid(I’m 21) when my great uncle passed. I believe it was from his dad (my great grandpa). Other than than that I don’t know much about it. My great grandpa fought in WW2 and was a farmer. my great uncle fought in Vietnam, if that has any significance. Wanted to know if anyone knew what brand or what it was used for. And maybe a age estimate
I had charred my handle for aesthetics, polished it with oil, wiped it down and put a sealant on it
