Hi everyone.
I wondered if anyone knows of a nice restaurant, perhaps a classy steakhouse or similar that is suitable for Coeliac?
Double points if it has a nice view etc.
It's for a special occasion.
Thanks all! :)
I live in an area where houses have garages, driveways, and street parking but there seem to be more car owners than parking available so there are multiple cars parked on the footpath everyday.
It’s been an ongoing issue for years now within our community and the consensus seems to be 50:50. Obviously people who park illegally are justifying their actions (they can park in front of their driveways if they want to, why should they have to find a parking further from their home, AT should not be issuing tickets at night time, etc) and even intimidated people who reported them to AT.
Just wondering if there’s a pragmatic approach here? AT seems to be responding to complaints (as evidenced by the illegal parkers’ rants on our community group page) but looks like they’re either super loaded with money that they can just keep paying their fines or they’re finding ways to get their fines revoked. Reason I say this is because AT’s presence isn’t changing their illegal habits.
Hey guys, leaving school with NCEA level 2 on 23rd of november and now looking for an apprenticeship as a mechanic. I have recently completed a Level 3 ignition course thinking it would be a start to get into the mechanical feild. Any tips or pointers would be great, thankyou
I will get braces fitted in Cape Town next month, but will be relocating to Auckland in Feb/March next year. Has anyone moved over and found an orthodontist willing to complete your treatment? Would like to hear your experience
Hey! So I accidentally grabbed an extra Coldplay ticket for next Friday, Nov 15. Rather than go through the hassle of selling it, I thought I’d just offer it up here – free for anyone who wants to tag along!
I’m a student in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at UoA, and I play a bit of piano in my spare time. Really pumped to see Coldplay live and just looking for another fan to vibe with. If you’re keen, drop me a message, and we can set it up. Should be a blast!
My partner (on the scooter) and I (while cycling), just got run over at a pedestrian/bike crossing (junction St. Heliers Bay road and St. Johns road) for which pedestrians/cyclists have priority. The car simply didn't stop and my partner (on the scooter) got thrown away.
There doesnt seem to be any damages to her scooter/herself (but lets see long time). The driver was pretty sorry and offering 50 bugs we declined, but we noted the license/model. Overall we feel sorry for the person too but are just furious that these things keep happening (we got so many close calls before in similar situations). It could have been so much worse, and it's honestly not fully the drivers fault, but the extremely poor pedestrian/cycling infrastructure around town.
We were thinking about filing a claim at the police station (at least a fine to the person), but by experience this just doesn't go anywhere. I also got hit before, similar pedestrian crossing ( luckily I wasn't damaged). The driver insulted me and left, literally, and when reporting it to the police, they just said I lacked "footage/evidence".
Did anyone experience something similar before? Someone knows what can be done in these cases?
I am currently on a working holiday visa, and I’ve applied very broadly in my current field (Health Science) and within my overall scope of experience (which also includes administration), but I’m hearing almost nothing past an interview or two. I have been applying regularly on Seek, and I have even signed with a couple temp agencies. The most progress I have made is through a potential internship, but all they’re doing is stringing me along. It’s exhausting.
I would like to stay in Auckland a bit longer, as I’m really enjoying it here, but from a financial standpoint, I might have to travel back home sooner rather than later.
Any pointers? I might have to aim lower honestly.
Currently in the CBD.
EDIT: I should mention I have gotten second, third, and fourth opinions on my CV as well as professional help, but that has not seemed to make a difference. I shall continue to apply and hopefully something will stick.
Posting on behalf of not so tech savvy neighbour. 2 UPS parcels (marked fragile and shrink wrapped) from Bangkok ~20kg each were delivered to neighbour's property this week (address was correct, name not neighbour's but likely a Thai woman, neighbour was not home when it was left by courier) Not knowing what was inside, both parcels were taken to the nearest NZPost immediately upon discovery.
An Asian man (spoke Chinese, almost no English) visited my neighbour on 3 occasions this week (including offering $200 thinking neighbour still has parcel) requesting these parcels even though he was informed they are with NZPost and to inquire with them. Said he lived on the same street, made a typo on the address label (both untrue) and cosmetics were inside.
Despite the parcels being supposedly valuable (noting neighbour was offered $200 to assist him, the express shipping method used which was ~$750), it appears he has deliberately used an address that is not his.
This is the second time that parcel has been to the address but not intended for neighbour. Previously, few months ago, also a different Chinese man arrived at the same time as the courier driver arrived (likely waited on the street) and claimed a parcel as his. It is highly likely both events are connected. Police have been notified. Photos/videos of the man available.
Interested to know if anyone has had similar issues in Auckland and/or what else can be done. Is there an Auckland Chinese forum somewhere I can post his photo to in case someone recognises him?
I'm close to the city centre and can hear a DnB event around. Anyone know what it is?
I don't mind fireworks but I'm so curious as to why people don't realize this will gusrentee their ban !.day and night the houses all around me have been letting them off I wouldn't mind if I didn't have young kids. Up north they let a bunch off on guy Fawkes then pack them away till new years so it's been quite the surprise to learn it's pretty normal in the city !
Please direct message me if interested ~

Travelling south on SH1, came up to a car (not an Aqua) doing just under 70 just before my exit. (No traffic in front of them). I know there's no legal minimum but would you consider this 'unreasonably slow' or dangerous? At least they were in the left lane.
Hi fellow Aucklanders, would any of you be able to give some advice for a pregnant lady with pretty bad morning sickness? Of course, we might eventually end up going to see the GP for advice, but does anybody have any good experience with non-pharmacological interventions? For example, would anyone recommend acupuncture and a good acupuncturist for this sort of thing? We live in the Newmarket area. Thank you very much! :)
Anyone able to share recent experiences for their daughters at St Kent’s or Dio? Struggling to choose and have been fortunate to have been offered places at both. Quiet, sensitive, neurodiverse child. Thanks
Memberships for the wahs have gone live, and it seems like you can select specific seats in the south stand, which last season was GA. Does anyone have any insights into whether they will have GA tickets next season? Would be a shame to get rid of the $20 GA tickets, or the GA membership. Handy if you have a membership but mates want to buy tickets to the occasional game and sit next to you.
If you had a delayed Western Line train this morning that is my bad
some crackhead chased after me wanting to rob me so I had to jump into the train and the conductor called the police into the scene
I've been to commercial bay and it's alright but I'm looking for something like dominion road new flavour/barilla etc within walking distance of queen st, I've been to a few of the chinese duck places and they are great but they don't serve dumplings
Why do we allow this system to be so shit?
People obscure license plates in ads. People advertise car with two or three months of WOF, and act like it's all good. Your car has rust and dents and you still want 7k. You won't agree to a mechanical inspection before purchase. It's in all of our interests for cars to be in good repair and safe.
My thoughts:
It should be generally accepted by everyone that 28day WOFs and prepurchase inspections are the norm. I know this ain't gonna happen and it makes me sad.
This is major Karen plan. 1 Get list of all schools in Auckland. Attach email address to principle. Get image of the school uniform. Bit of work there. 2 send email to all schools that riders on public transport are required to move to the end of the bus or carriage for trains. This includes their students. They are responsible for their students behavior while in transit to and from school. 3 if finding a student in the doorway when space is elsewhere available, photograph then send picture to the school. Ask school what they will do to stop that student repeating this behavior. That should solve it. Maybe. A little bit for a little while.
I wonder is there any stadium or field where people can sit and watch different dogs compete in sporting events (like the ones you see on tv with dogs jumping hurdles etc.). Of course I hope this is even humane as the dogs seem to love this sort of activity with their owners...
Hi guys so recently I‘ve seen videos and discussions of people speed running subway systems in North America and I thought hey wouldn’t it be a great idea to speed run Auckland train network! I’m just curious that has anyone done this before and if someone has done this then what was the record? And if you have done or attempted this yourself, what are some tips you would like to offer from your experience? Thank you
We have a two story house with our bedroom on the second floor. We are wanting a heat pump installed in the room on an exterior facing wall. There is an existing outdoor unit for a heat pump down stairs which will nearly be directly below the bedroom wall.
Is this possible - having two units running off a single outdoor unit? Are there any gotchas to doing something like this? We would never run both units at the same time either.
Asking this in r/auckland as well as I’m looking for recommendations on installs too and would love people’s suggestions on who to chat to.
Hi there! I'm a writer/director for a small filmmaking hobby group, and I'm looking for good filming locations in the North Shore area (and surrounding regions).
Our current project is a found-footage style horror short, inspired by classics like The Blair Witch Project and more recent films like V/H/S/94 (specifically the Raatma tape). I’m specifically looking for the following types of locations:
Anything else with a potentially spooky vibe is also welcome!
As I mentioned, I’m particularly interested in underground locations (drains, tunnels, bunkers, caves, etc.), but some cool abandoned buildings would also work well for the film.
I know this isn’t the usual type of post on this subreddit, but I can’t see any rules against it - so here goes!
Thanks in advance! <3
h:r should have exactly a 2:1 ratio right?
Noticed from the train yesterday it’s a construction site. Is it being re-furb’d or is it goooooone?
