My sister and I live way out in the sticks, down on the meigs county side of things. I have a job that in starting next week and then I go on vacation from the 29-14. My sister is moving to Maryland with her boyfriend on december 18. We share a car at the moment and it is in her name. Shes taking the car with her and im not sure how to get to work. Im thinking about looking for subleases but there arent many options at the moment. What would you do in this situation?
I’m wondering if people are gathering in some public place in Athens to watch the election results?
PSA for people who need a ride ❤️
Not sure I have the time to call Zaleski to get information, but wondering what you can/can't shoot there, and how the target setup is? Does anyone know? Have a rifle and shotgun we want to shoot. Anyone have info?
I know bloc party has passed but for those who don’t live the massive crowd that comes with that, are there any smaller scale events happening tonight on actual Halloween?
What can I do between like 8:30 and 10:30? I need to wait to pick my sister up from work and I’m tired of sitting in the car lol
Come enjoy Athens, OH's first Sapphic Dance Night + Market!
Recently, I learned that there's a bus that goes between (near) the University of Cincinnati and OU-Athens or the Athens Community Center called the GoBus. And, it's only $15 each way. What a deal considering the distance!
Luckily, reading old posts in this subgroup, I didn't go last weekend when the Halloween Party was going on. Drinking and partying isn't really my thing. At least I wouldn't need to worry about my car getting towed because I took the bus. 😂
Anyway, I've never been to Athens before, so I'd like the make a day trip out of it on a weekend. Hopefully soon, when the autumn leaf colors are at peak.
As I understand, there's a free campus shuttle between Baker Center and the Kennedy Art Museum. That sounds useful, possibly. The Dairy Barn Art Museum also looks interesting, but there's no sidewalk from The Ridge to there. It looks like it's on a minor enough street that I'll probably be okay with a yellow vest on.
The Cannabis Museum looks interesting, but it's way far out of the city. I'd have to take a rideshare to get to it. Not sure if it's worth visiting? Anyone been there?
Walking around Downtown is on the list.
Not sure what the essentials of the OU campus are.
The skate park by the Community Center sounds worth checking out even though I don't even know how to skateboard.
Someone mentioned the Public library let's you check out a bicycle, but I'm not sure if I qualify for a library card?
Anyway, that's probably more than enough to do in 8 hours time.
Sound good? Did I forget anything?
Thanks in advance!
On Friday night some random person walked into my porch and took my blue swinging camping chair. It’s not worth much but it’s very important to me. I would truly appreciate if anyone sees this chair on a porch or outside please let me know. It would be so much help to keep any eye out for this. Or if you have heard stories from the weekend or saw someone taking this. Thank you so much
How's everyone feeling about the vibe and direction Athens is having regarding the election or lack there of.
Hi everyone!
I was wondering if anyone had recommendations on places I could go to get air in my tires. Preferably somewhere not expensive. I’ve seen the pumps at gas stations that require quarters, but was wondering if there was something a little more convenient. Thanks!
As stated, I'm coming into Athens for the game tomorrow with my kids. Just looking for any advice on parking, food, or things my kids should see while there. Thanks!
What is the best place in Athens to practice yoga in the evenings? I’m looking for a place that has a consistent schedule, where I can grow my practice. Thank you! 🙏
🎃 👻 🥚 💨🤮
I was an undergraduate student there from 1987 to 1991. I'm familiar with some of the surrounding area since my parents grew up in Glouster and Trimble. Actually, my father's parents lived their whole life in Glouster. Anyway, I find myself thinking of retiring in Athens. I would be grateful for any and all advice.
Anyone else having horrible experiences with the Athens Kroger lately? I often do click-list pick up and frequently get completely rotten/moldy produce, meat that goes bad within a day or two of purchase (ground beef, ground turkey) often before the “sell by” date they have listed on the package. One package went bad and I bought it Sunday(10/20) and the “sell by” date on it was for Tuesday(10/22). Like two days really?
I figure I can’t be the only one with this issue and with the exorbitant cost of groceries it’s so frustrating and totally unacceptable!
Looking for Parent Feedback on Solid Ground School in Millfield Ohio
Hi everyone! My husband and I are considering enrolling our daughter at Solid Ground School. We love their progressive approach and emphasis on outdoor learning, but my husband is concerned about how well it prepares kids for high school. Since the school only goes up to 6th grade, he’s worried the transition to a more traditional high school setting might be difficult. I’m not sure I fully agree, but I do think it’s a valid concern.
Has anyone had experience with this transition? How did it go for your child? Would love to hear your thoughts!
I had paid for parking, but the app said there were issues and that there wasn't activity. YET the charge went through. I tried again, the same thing, and the charge went through again. I took screenshots of all this, and of course, I had a parking ticket after. Any tips on how to easily contest this? Do I have to call them?
After I had to go and park somewhere else for a different class and I had no problems there.
Just saw a big meteor streak across the sky to the north heading Eastward. Bright green and broke apart as it flew. Who else saw it?!
I’d like to start playing pickleball more often and meet new people. I’m curious if anyone want to start playing more often, in the evenings outside of the Rec Center on East State Street.
Moved here recently and using Holzer for medical needs. PCP never has appointments available. The two times I've scheduled w other drs/nurse practitioners they've cancelled on me. This second time they didn't even call, told me when I checked in for my appt. Very frustrating. Would I have better luck with O'bleness?
I'm potentially buying a house and there's something about the people on this road that people who were raised here seem to know. It's a great property, good price. Any insight? If I'm gonna get run out of town, I'd like to know before if possible.

Hello! Friendly reminder to put your winterization on your windows! And if you’re new to it and want some help let me know and I’ll do it for you for $20! We’re too poor to pay these $600 electric bills this year so we might as well keep the heat we’re paying for.

I've opened up a coffee kiosk with limited hours (7:45am-10:15am) Mon-Thurs next door to the food truck at the corner of University Terrace and Park Place as part of the Church of the Good Shepherd's thrift shop! I'm currently serving coffee and espresso drinks (au lait, cappuccino, etc) but will consider expanding the menu. Pricing is donation based, and all donations will go to the operating costs of the coffee shop itself. No proselytizing, no BS, just building community with coffee! We're hoping to serve students, staff, and other community members with an alternative to Starbucks. Please drop by!
