About

The last great classic Atari console. Originally announced in May 1984, the 7800 ProSystem was the 8-bit replacement to the 5200 console. However, it wasn't launched until January 1986 in order to compete with the NES. It is also backwards compatible with the 2600 line of games and accessories.

Selling my collection!

Recent life changes have made it so I don't get much time to game anymore. The 7800 was a console I decided I would shoot for a complete collection with because I had one when I was a kid. So, I have collected all but 6 titles. Now I offer them on ebay with other goodies I've acquired and a composite molded console.

Really enjoying my new Atari 7800 CX78+ gamepads!

Got my Atari 7800 about a decade ago and have been using the pro line joysticks that came with them everr since. However, I recently bought the European style CX78+ gamepads and they are literally a game changer!

Funny enough, I've found myself playing a lot of DigDug, which I found very difficult to do with the pro line joysticks. Dungeon crawlers and rouge-likes are also better in my opinion. The only game that isn't better is the Robotron 2084 like game T:me Salvo. There, twin sticks are the way to go.

I'm tempted now to look into other types of controllers, like the ones made by Edladdin, and sorry that I didn't buy homebrew controllers sooner.

What are your thoughts on all of this?

2600 Unocart on a 7800

Hey folks!

Wondering if anyone knows the answer to this question. I know that you can play 2600 games on a 7800 but can you add 7800 games to a 2600 Unocart and play them on a 7800? The 7800 flashcarts are silly money and I have a 2600 Unocart so hoping for a quick win lol.

Thanks in advance!

I thought long and hard about whether I should get a Sega Master System or a PC Engine for my next console and just couldn’t decide. Then, out of nowhere, a dark horse candidate took the lead.

I honestly never thought I’d have any real interest in playing Atari. That is, until I started learning about their fascinating history and came to understand the unique vibe of their games and consoles. I’m so excited to own this and have been having a great time exploring both the 7800 and 2600 libraries.

So I just got an Atari 7800 - what games should I get?

Hiya - so, I was lucky to score an Atari 7800, and I know it plays all the 2600 games - but what games, out of the 7800's limited library should I get the most? I know I will get Hat Trick, Real Sports Baseball and any of the football games, if there are any, as a sports fan, though. Thanks.

Any more 7800 games coming for the 2600+?

Feels like they take longer with the couple releases they do per year than they do programming new 3D games in a windows environment!

Low POKEY audio after composite mod despite installing the 6.8k resistor

I installed a composite mod in my 7800 yesterday and overall its fine (albeit slightly noisy video) however the audio from the POKEY is extremely low. I know that you need to install a resistor in line with the TIA in order to balance it but it seems to not have worked.

Homebrews for Atari 7800 collections

Does anybody have a collection of Homebrew rom files for Atari 7800? Don’t mind buying some for reasonable prices, but the eBay route is out of control.

Dust cover?

Recently, I bought a game for my Atari 7800, it was a copy of Food Fight. When I went to play the game, I realized it had a dust cover at the bottom. I thought Atari 7800 games didn’t have dust covers.

USB controller?

I've looked everywhere, I'm guessing the answer is no. But has a USB version of the 7800 controller ever been released?

My Atari collection as of March 2024. I have 32/57 7800 games released in the US. Just 25 to go!

2600 in RGB is weirding me out. Feels like I'm on the MiSTer or RGB-Pi OS. I think i'm gonna leave the 7800GameDrive for 7800 mode only and go RF/S-Video for 2600 games! lol

Got my 7800 back out

After seeing a few 7800 games at a retro gaming store that just opened at a nearby mall, I was struck by a fit of nostalgia and got my 7800 and complete collection of games down off the attic, where it had sat unplayed for at least a decade, half expecting it not to work anymore. Luckily, my sister had an old TV that I could hook it up to that she wasn't using. So far so good, as I've played several games with no issues. Nice to be reminded of how cool Alien Brigade is!
