I have -0.25 astigmatism yet I'm having some pretty bad astigmatism symptoms like Ghosting, starbursts and light smearing, I've had a topography done and Keratoconus was ruled out, but my eyesight still is getting worse daily, even when I wear my glasses

I've went to 3 doctors as of now, please help

Severe astigmatism laser eye surgery/ICL???

My prescription is myopia -7.25 left and -9.25 right and astigmatism +5.50 left and +6.75 right. I’ve been wearing rigid gas permeable contacts for 12 years now but they are an absoluteee pain. So uncomfortable, extremely expensive, break constantly, so easy to lose, have to have them custom made each time one breaks which takes weeks.

Wondering if anyone with a similar prescription has had any luck with laser eye surgery or implantable contact lenses? Or any other advice? I’m 26 so feel like I have a lifetime of misery left with my rubbish eye balls x

Can astigmatism cause chronic dizziness?

I have trouble looking at water (waves) , eye tracking, motion, etc.

I never wear glasses, but put on my old ones and they seemed to improve things quite a bit. I went and got contacts, and they are OK -- glasses seem better but less practical for my active lifestyle so I want Lasik!

Anyone here have issues with eye tracking? I feel woozy, lightheaded, dizzy all the time, I have felt the panic dizzy before during a panic attack but this is more regular. I feel it's hard to track moving things, watch waves in the ocean, turn my head while driving, etc. Some days I feel really lightheaded from it too. Dizzy, woozy, light headed like I am going to faint -- despite heart rate being normal! Been going on like this for 2 years, in 2019 I had horrible panic attack, the sudden curshing wave of anxiety that overtakes you, intense, but brief. Now this is much less intense, but far more frequent.

What helped? All tests have been normal...

It's not room spinning dizziness, more just a feeling of woozy, floating, motion sickness etc.

Driving at night

Hi all,

I have astigmatism, my left eye is short sighted, and my right eye longsighted. Left eye is worse, in fact I only sometimes wear a corrective contact lens in my left eye, and cope ok. I don't wear driving glasses.

When driving at night, I really struggle to see stuff when there are other bright lights like car headlights present. It totally kills my night vision. Peehaps this is normal though?

What might not be normal are the streaks I see when looking at litgts at night. Like street lights have a vertical glare line caacadikg down from them. Seems worse if wet weather, so not sure if windscreen glass is doing some weird optical thing.

Does anyway else experience this, and have any recommendations? O only know what's normal to me, so I'd like to know if everyone is like this, or it's my eyes!

Thanks.

Contacts

I recently just got new glasses and I think I look so so bad. what type of contacts can I wear? My optometrist said that I can only wear hard lenses but I see some people wearing soft lenses with astigmatism. If not what are the ways to improve my eyesight so that I don’t need to wear my glasses? Or is that impossible because I have been wearing my glasses since I was 6…

Occasional double vision with new glasses

Hello guys. I got my first glasses around 1 month ago at 27. It's a light prescription of myopia -0.50 and astigmatism -0.50 in both eyes. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to them. The problem is, I went to a bowling alley yesterday with very dim lighting, and I felt like my eyes couldn't focus on the pins or the people that were playing in the other lanes. I felt like I had some sort of double vision that I hadn't experienced in any other situation since I got my new glasses. Does anyone know what could've caused this? My doctor said the glasses were made correctly, and it only happened in this situation with dim lighting.

Dark mode interfaces with astigmatism

Hi everyone! We are writing an article on dark mode. We want to accurately portray how dark mode interfaces look like for people with astigmatism. What experience do you have with dark mode?

Do I have an astigmatism or am I just blind.

So my whole life I thought the overly blinding lights and eye stabbing lines were normal cuz my dad always said he saw it and that’s how everyone saw light. Every eye doctor I’ve see. told me I didn’t have it and that I was fine but recently someone questioned me about it and why I said lights look like bright overdramatic stars stretching into the stratosphere and It wasn’t until today I asked my husband what light looked like to him and he said it was just a glow of light and I was confused so I googled a side by side photo of street lights at night and he said no he doesn’t see the weird abusive eye lines. For some background I had great vision as a kid but during middle school started needing glasses and have needed a new prescriptions since then several times but always have seen these stupid eye blinding lines, the only time I don’t see them now is when I remove my glasses so my deformed eyes can’t even perceive what I’m looking at but I don’t see a glow of light around any light source when I am in blind mode. Am I just crazy or are my eyes just straight up suffering from blunt deformed uselessness . _ . ???

New prescription feels worse than the old one?

So I recently got a new prescription after years of not getting an eye check (and losing the old prescription), and just got new glasses.

One eye feels about the same, while on the other, when trying the old prescription and the new one back to back, i definitelly have blurrier vision with the new one.

Is it possible my doctor fucked up the prescription? Or do I just have to get used to it.

So far it's been three days and the problem persists.

Disposable contacts for severe astigmatism?

I’m currently in the hunt for a pair of contact lenses for severe astigmatism. I have a prescription of -4.77 astigmatism. I would love daily or disposable use contact lenses because of the convenience of having a fresh pair every day and hygiene is also a good reason.

ASTIGMATISM CYL>-3

Recently, I have begun noticing slight discomfort when reading white text on a dark background, as the text seems to bleed into the background.
I experience double vision without glasses, but with glasses, everything appears normal—until I noticed this issue.
This situation is causing me severe stress and anxiety, affecting my job, education, and overall life.
I really want to remain optimistic, but I have yet to find a solution.
Has anyone managed to cure this?

glare during daylight?

does anyone else also see the glare/lines during the daylight?

for me it's worse at night and makes it super hard to drive but, even during the day and the morning, lights look like crosses and have huge glares. the glares also overlap. i'm getting an eye exam soon but i'm also wondering if wearing sunglasses all day will help or make it worse

Eye pain

Hi all! I was just diagnosed with an astigmatism after having 3 kids back to back. I have never worn glasses and my vision is not bad at all but my eyes hurt all the time now. Does anyone else experience this? Like dull aching pain all day.

Eye spasms

Hey everyone!

A bit of a strange question but I've tried Googling this and cannot find anyone talking about this. So, before I make a run to my optometrist, I thought I'd just ask.

Does anyone have eye spasms/twitches? And I'm not talking about your eyelids. I mean your actual eyeball pulses and spasms.

Thanks!

3 year old school report

Daughter got this result today from a regular checkup at school. Although it says No to myopia hyperopia etc, Astigmatism is shown as Yes. I am not sure how I should read this report.

Google and reddit previous post searches say conflicting things

  1. Should I be worried and consult a doctor immediately?
  2. The values in SP, SE etc show high values but the summary says NO to other possibilities
  3. Teacher at the school said she cried a lot before the test. Would this have effected the test result in any way?

Should i concern?

My prescription 2 and a half years ago was -5.00 myopia and 0.5 astigmatism, and -5.00 myopia and 1.00 astigmatism. 5 months ago i checked again and it was -5.00 myopia and 2.75 astigmatism in both eyes. Now, i think my vision slightly got worse even though i can still see and read letters in the distance. Theres a ghost vision in both of my eyes. should i be worried? my father and mother have a perfect vision so i doubt it's genetic. Why are my eyes getting worse so fast? do any of you have similar experiences? and is there any way I can stop the astigmatism?

Ghost image after 5 month last prescription

I checked my eyes at the optician 5 months ago with 2.5 astigmatism in both eyes and -5.00 myopia. It was a check-up after 2 years where previously I had 0.5 and 1.00 astigmatism, and -5.00 myopia. After two weeks I went to an eye specialist because of halo light, and it turned out that everything was normal except for a prescription error. It turned out to be 2.75 astigmatism in both eyes. However, because the glasses I was wearing were the ones that had been made 2 weeks ago and there was no significant difference and I could read all the writings that were told to be read, the doctor said there was no need to change the glasses. But after 4 months I felt ghost images in both of my eyes. I don't know if this had been there before because of the difference of 0.25 astigmatism, but I noticed it after 4 months.

Ghost images are not visible if I look at close range, but are visible for light and lamps at a distance, also objects and writings with contrasting colors. I can still read the writing from a distance, and I can still read the menu displayed above the cash register from a fairly long reading distance. but strangely, the ghost image is not too bad when I wake up in the morning, all the long distance writing looks very good in the morning when I wake up, minimal ghost image and very good vision in the morning. And the ghost image looks very bad when I am in an air-conditioned room. When my eyes are dry, the ghost image appears very badly. My eye condition is different every day. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Is there a possibility that my astigmatism is getting worse? Or is there another possibility like dry eyes? Is there anyone here who is experiencing the same thing?

Feeling hopeless trying to correct Astigmatism

About two months ago I got diagnosed with astigmatism. IL -0.5 and IR -0.75. I work long hours on the computer and the eye strain was killing me to the point it became unbearable, so I did the most sensible thing and acquired a pair of glasses. However, I've had nothing but trouble ever since. I would really appreciate if you could help me finding alternatives. Mind you I have a huge prominent nose that also happens to be slightly deviated. This is what I have found out so far:

  • Glasses: I've tried everything, glasses with pads and without pads. I have tried different frames from different stores/opticians. Adjusting them endlessly both in store and in my home. I have tried lightweight glasses and frameless glasses. I have tried silicon pads, and I've also tried silicone gel attachments. Absolutely nothing works. With all these measures and adjustments, I've gotten to significantly reduce the pain and turn the redness into mild skin indentations. However I am still not having a good time, I feel mild discomfort. And after long hours the indentations start to look like craters on my skin. I guess there's just no way around it. Frames need to rest slightly on the nose. However, because my nose is so prominent, there seem to be no pressure points where they can rest without causing these horrible symptoms (Tried frames to rest on every different spot of my nose). So, for this reason I am not too keen on glasses, which made me look for alternatives.
  • Contacts: I feel like I have looked at every store in my country, all of them say they don't have contact lenses for me. They say Toric lenses for astigmatism only get produced for -0.75 and beyond. And because on my left eye I only have -0.5 diopters, they refuse to sell to me, saying that you cannot only correct one eye. I thought I would have better luck buying them online, but this seems to be some sort of global issue.
  • ICL Surgery: The same inconvenience. ICL surgery for astigmatism is only done from -1.0 diopters and beyond.
  • LASIK/PRK/SMILE Refractive Surgeries: This is kind of the same problem where apparently every reputable surgeon refuses to make surgery for anything less than -0.75 diopters.

Feeling like I have exhausted my options and with much frustration. I come here to ask to see if anyone knows of any other thing I could try.

Translate BC to Cyl & Axis

Hoping there’s a way to at least approximate my Cyl & Axis numbers for glasses from my contact lens prescription, only one I can find, which only has a BC. Context: pretty desperate here so close enough is OK with me, for now. Broke my glasses and need new ones stat. Haven’t been driving at night or much at all even though I was able to get a “regular” -2.50 pair. Thanks, y’all!

Got new glasses on Friday

With my updated prescription! The first eye doc appointment I've had in 8(?) years!

It was super hard to wear them at first—after my last pair of glasses broke, I lost them somewhere living on the streets—that was around midsummertime.

I ran around seeing little more than differently colored fuzzy blobs for several months.

My prescription in my right eye is SPH -6.50, CYL -3.00; left eye SPH -4.5, CYL -3.75.

Crazy, right? I take after my mom. She successfully got laser eye surgery. I used to tease her with my brothers—now my right eye is just as bad as hers. oof. I am 29 years old.

Titanium frames with coke bottle lenses even in the modern day due to such a high prescription. Plastic frames tend to break on me a little too easy, so with any luck these heavier metal ones will have the durability to last a long time.

The eye doctor seemed lowkey amazed that I had lasted so long in the streets after losing my lenses without becoming roadkill or something.

I cross in the crosswalks at night.

My night vision is so much better now with these awesome new glasses! Heck yes

Just last week I was out here feeling large vibrations through the ground and detecting movements through disturbances in the air currents around me, you know, using unusual other senses to help navigate.

Indoors, I can usually use echolocation to find my phone when I lose my glasses. I make a high pitched chrrp, chrrp or brrrp, brrrp noise, then my body automatically turns towards the direction in which I need to search. And then I quickly find my phone.

I feel like a freak.

Once I did some Tai-Chi moves fuzzy-slippered feet in the fresh dirt by the railroad tracks as the midnight train roared on by—I'd gotten lost one summer night on my way back to the side of town I usually stay on, and as I stepped into view of the railroad crossing from the west, the front engine came into my view from the east, no time to take video even

It was a long train, and as it chugged by, I began to do some airplanes, half-moons, and other stretches.

Feeling the bass vibrations from the train's movement through my feet within the soil almost gave me a picture of the whole city, at least, density-wise, but the train finished passing before I could memorize much. Remind me to do that again sometime, Tai-Chi by the train tracks

Anybody else on echolocation or anything else I mentioned?

Is my prescription considered mild, or does my astigmatism make it worse?

Hey all. I just went to the eye doctor for the first time in... 9 years? When I went 9 years ago, I had a slight astigmatism in my right eye. I don't remember what the prescription exactly was unfortunately. I think the astigmatism in my right eye got stronger, and apparently I also have an astigmatism in my left eye too? I don't think that was the case years ago.

I just went for an eye exam the other day and my optometrist suggested I should wear progressive lens full-time, especially because I work at a computer for hours at a time. Looking at my prescription, it seems pretty mild though? Does the astigmatism make it worse than it is? Just curious to hear other opinions.

is seeing light streaks astigmatism if you only see it while you're driving?

I see all lights as these annoying lines everywhere when i'm driving and i don't understand why because when i'm just walking around the city i don't see these lines, just in the car.
