Loose pipe

Hi all,

Just a quick question, we had our boiler serviced yesterday and this pipe is loose. I assume we can just slot it back in and tape or glue it if it comes loose again?

Replacing cast iron shower and sink drain that joins to a lined cast iron sewer pipe

Is that possible? Straightforward or hard?

Some context: we lined our old cast iron pipes from the kitchen to the sewer main connection. There are gaps where a bathroom’s shower and toilet join the sewer. We plan on renovating the bathroom. It was recommended to us by another plumber to replace the original shower and toilet drains that connect to the lines sewer.

What's the easiest ways to put shut off valves on these?

Always feel dumb when I do plumbing. I have three of these coming out the wall - two are going to a small wall mounted on demand heater, and another is going to the toilet. They're 1/2" and all the supply lines are already in place and are 1/2". I went to the plumbing supply and couldn't find any 1/2" female to 1/2" male shut off valves. Is there an easy way to add shut off valves without having to replace all the supply lines?

How hard/costly will it be to move the shower and tub locations?

This is on the main floor of a post and beam house. There's a crawlspace underneath with pretty easy access to all the lines. I'd like to essentially rotate the tub and move the toilet about 5 feet.

BEFORE:

\"BEFORE\" - Current bathroom

AFTER:

\"AFTER\" - Goal layout

BASEMENT (water and sewage) BEFORE: Brown lines show the rough location of the sewage to the septic. There is also a vent located in the place shown that leads through the attic.

\"BEFORE\" - Where the water is coming from now, and where the sewage/venting goes

BASEMENT (water and sewage) AFTER:

\"AFTER\" - an idea of a possible layout after the change

Before I call a plumber for quotes just curious about whether this seems doable or crazy, and maybe a sense of cost?

Can't Find Water Shutoff

City installed a new water meter last week. I want to locate the shutoff for a pipe burst emergency. There is no shutoff valve (pic below). Any hints? Both the in and out pipes disappear into the ground.

Long-term I am going to install a shutoff valve on my line, and I understand the city does not condone tampering with the meter. Thank you.

Tub overflow leak

I've got a leak coming from my bathtub overflow. Looking online one of the suggested fixes is to replace the gasket. I'm thinking that the problem is the corrosion and replacing the gasket might not fix it and it won't stop the corrosion. I happened upon a product from bluevueinc.com that looked like it might solve the problem. Just wondering if that's a proper fix.

Thanks!

Feedback on my first project

I had to rebuild my back flow preventer. Any feedback?

Also it's a little drippy where the valves join to the breaker. Do I just tighten?

Shower valve pulled out from wall?

Hi all. I’m helping my uncle install a new shower valve…it’s pretty much ready to go, but I think I installed the valve too far into the wall. By the looks of the pic, would pulling the valve farther out from the wall make this fit tightly?

Thanks

https://www.rinnai.us/support/warranty Would save 1500$ everything is already ran and has been looked at by a plumber

Pain Points Within Plumbing Businesses

I am currently looking into plumbing on the business side and was curious about any issues plumbing businesses have. What problems do you face when acquiring customers? Do you need help with booking appointments? Calling back customers? I am genuinely curious about the issues you guys have when dealing with customer relationships.

What can be done about this shower handle?

we’ve been using a wrench to turn on our shower for the last couple months and it has been worn down to this nub. mom says we can’t fix this because it would require our landlord’s permission and that we couldn’t do anything even before this. is there really nothing we can do?

Outdoor Shower and Tankless Water Heater

Hi All. Looking to install a natural gas outdoor shower next to a cedar hot tub. Running a new gas line to heat the tub so not a huge deal to get gas to the shower vs running hot water a long ways from my water heater. Any recommendations for a small (only need ~3 gpm for a shower) NG outdoor water heater? Lowest water temperature coming from supply is around 45-50 degrees in winter. Thanks!

What’s happening to my tub’s water flow?

So the tub my wife uses primarily started spraying like this instead of it’s full steady flow (think garden hose for the regular flow style). It’s taking 3-4x as long to fill the tub up. She did mention that turning the cold knob makes the water colder than before. Any ideas?

Is this DreamLine shower pan missing a shower drain assembly?

Description may be more helpful than the pictures. And apologies if terminology is not correct.

My elderly parents had a shower conversion where their bathtub was removed, and a low threshold shower was installed using a DreamLine shower pan. When I was visiting just a few days after the install I noticed the metal strainer cover was siliconed in place instead of snapping into the drain body.

I removed the strainer cover and it seemed to be sealed directly to the show pan recess. And when strainer cover was removed I could see what appeared to be the top of the PVC drain line surrounded by, what to me appeared to be, the sanded mortar bed. I didn't take a photo for some reason so best I have is a still from a video my mother sent me.

The shower drain assemblies I have seen in the past (limited mind you) one never sees the top of the drain line like this. Installer told my parents the gray we were seeing was the compression gasket/rubber boot that seals around the drain line. What I saw did not appear smooth like a gasket. Also, I would expect to see a drain body and threaded compression nut into which the strainer cover snaps.

Am I completely off the mark? I feel like someone on the install crew screwed up. I see in a "during construction" picture that an offset drain assembly in on site but why am I not seeing threaded insert when I remove the strainer cover? I feel like the installer screwed up and just siliconed the crap out of everything hoping the silicone and mortar directs everything to the drain line.

I am on the other side of the country and trying to help solves this issue. My parents just don't want to deal and are feeling overwhelmed.

Any thoughts based on my description of what I saw when on site and the crappy pictures I have included?

I plan to be out of town and want to avoid turning off the water to keep my garden/yard alive in Texas heat. Any thoughts on installing a Flume2 leak detector or the Moen Flo Smart Water Monitor with auto shutoff? Or ok to just turn off water supply lines to toilets/washer etc.? Home is 2 years old.

Help required trying to pull Moen Cartridge pin out

Hi folks! Was hoping someone could help. I’m trying to pull this Moen cartridge out to replace it (faucet’s been leaking), however I just can’t seem to pull the pin out. This is the max I can get it to rise vertically before hitting drywall/tile on top of it. Any suggestions? I think breaking off a piece of the tile would do the trick but hoping to avoid doing that. Unfortunately I can’t push the pipe body down any further. Thank you!

Are powered anode rod inserts worth it for electric water heaters? looking to extend the life of my 12 year old one now

Hey friends,

I have a 12 Year old bradford white water heater (m280rds-1ncww) in the house I recently purchased, and it's been gradually slowing down since I moved in.

I'm going to replace the coils, which I expect to look like something you'd find hanging from a cave at this point, because I called the company that installed it and they said they haven't seen it since they put it in in 2012.

I'm also considering putting on of those Anode rods you plug in that are meant to stop corrosion and (I guess) help people get rid of sulfer smells in well water.

Is it worth putting new coils and this anode thing into a 12 year old water heater hoping to keep it alive for another 5 years? Or should I bite the bullet and just replace it?
