We're currently in NOLA and weather forecast looks like storms all day tomorrow. Any activities indoors we can do that'll take a few hours?
I know there's things like escape rooms and putt putt, but we want something like maybe a market or something exclusive to NOLA. We've also been on the hunt for goods made by locals and not the same regurgitated souvenirs lol.
TIA!
Hi! As the title reads I’m looking for any suggestions for spots to stay that are maybe on the cheaper end but in a good location and anything else that might be important to know. Mostly I’m asking for what locations I should be looking at for easy to and from to festivities. I’ve never been to Nola before so I honestly have no clue what I’m doing. But I was born on Mardi Gras and my 22nd bday falls on Mardi Gras too so I wanted to attend to celebrate. Absolutely any trip recommendations or important things to know would be so helpful. Thank you guys!! Edit: I am also gluten free; would yall say there’s options or should I be prepared to avoid all things carbs?

I read the Reddit tags and it sounds like Whitney plantation is the one to go to for the most historical accurate information and focus on the right things.
I'd like to do a swamp/bayou tour as well, super interested in seeing the breathtaking scenery, alligators or not alligators I'm not concerned.
What would you recommend for a good swamp/bayou tour that focuses on the land, scenery, etc and isn't just an "see an alligator" tourist trap. And is there a combo tour with a Whitney plantation visit or am I better off to book separately?
Anyone know what time it starts tonight?
We're coming into town tonight, with tickets to Music Box Village to see Quintron and Miss Pussycat. I've been left stranded by rideshare apps way too many times so I'm wondering what our best options are.
We're staying near Royal and Elysian Fields, and I see that Route 8 can pick us up at St. Claude and we can get off at Poland. I have the 3rd party nolatransit.fly.dev tracking site bookmarked, it seems that it's on schedule now, but am wondering if pickup times start to deviate as the evening goes on? I see that it's supposed to stop every 20 minutes or so.
Otherwise, is Lyft/Uber a good reliable option on a busy night like tonight? I'm less worried about getting there than getting back to our place.
Also, is there a sound curfew ordinance at Music Box? Was curious about when to expect the show to be over.
Thanks for any help. Ya'll are awesome.
So, I'm Liveing in New Orleans, and have a job, but I need a place to stay. I'm currently homeless (22,F). My first paycheck is gonna come in two weeks, and I can pay up to 300 for rent, however I will not have said money till two ish weeks from now. If you are in the Nola area, and are willing to have a roommate, I would love the help and be 1000% grateful.
my friend and i really didn’t think it would sell out so quickly :(
My girlfriend and I were wondering if there is anything going on this Halloween that doesn’t include bars/drinking? I’ve tried googling and looking in the subreddit but just about everything I can find includes going to bars, etc.
Are these tickets just purchased through Ticketmaster? I know entry is free and then you need tickets/to pay for the different sections/meal. Ticketmaster shows them going on sale tomorrow, but is there a different option?
Hello!
I’m planning a surprise trip for my girlfriend’s birthday 01/31-02/03/25.
We’ve never been to NOLA, so I thought it would be a fun experience for the both of us. We love visiting new places and exploring, especially ones with rich culture and a lot to learn.
Is this an okay time to visit? We don’t need the full Mardi Gras experience. Just want to experience the city, walk around, try food, etc. She’s not a huge party girl. She will probably want to visit a local bar or club for a night, especially if there is a good LGBT one, but that’s the extent of her party battery.
Also, I’d like for our hotel to be memorable, and in a walkable area, or close to transportation. Id like for it to be visually unique or memorable. I’d like maybe a balcony or a hot tub (my girlfriend loves hot tubs lol so it would be a nice addition).
I’ve been looking at different places but I haven’t made up my mind. I’d like to keep the budget to under $1,500 for the weekend.
I’m looking at:
What do you all think of these hotels? Or do you recommend one that isn’t listed? Any insights would be much appreciated!
Hi all,
My and my fiancé are visiting next week staying at the French Quarter and we’re looking to do a fun and casual couples photoshoot to show off that New Orleans culture. Does anyone have a good recommendation? Preferably nothing too expensive.
Hi all -- will be in NOLA this weekend and searching for salon recommendations in the FQ who could do Dorothy (Wizard of Oz movie, pre-makeover) braids this Saturday. Many thanks
My grandmother and grandfather LOVE Halloween, New Orleans, and old houses. They're in the Acadiana area and aren't able to travel to New Orleans like they used to, so I wanted to go around today and take pictures of Halloween decorations for them in older neighborhoods. The houses don't even have to all be crazy elaborate displays, they'll like more traditional decorations too :)
I know I should have asked this at the start of the month but it didn't occur to me until last night! I had good recommendations earlier this month when I posted something for my other grandparent so I'm hopeful for this time too!
Thank you!!!
I don’t have any friends or family here but wanted to spend Halloween still having a good time and maybe meeting some new people. Where should I go?
Looking to set up a bachelor party for my friend, if we pick NOLA it will be from February 20-24. Is this a good time to go this year? Will it be wild or dull because Mardi Gras is the next week?
Hi everyone. I’ve read some posts about where to stay for Mardi Gras. I believe the parade happens on St. Charles up to Canal St. I’m still a bit confused as to whether the downtown or the warehouse district is better to view the parade. I chose Maison Metier because of its location and wanted to see if anyone can confirm that I can enjoy the parade here. I’ll be visiting 2/21 for the weekend.. Would I miss out if I didnt go the week after? Thanks all
Hey everybody, coming down for a bit, wanted to know some must do’s and must don’ts haha. We’re staying a bit off the beaten path, but not too far from downtown. My parents are from Metairie, but I’m down visiting my Aunt who lives in Marrero with some of my dad’s family. Let me know :)
Used to live out in Algiers when I was a kid but haven’t been since I was a pre-teen (mid 20s now lol) , been planning to take my wife for Mardi Gras and hit up some of the local “vampire” spots that were both obsessed with stories of lol.
Any recommendations on places that are more recent within about ten years that deal with the occult, historical tours, ghost tours(aside from Lafayette I can recite that in my sleep with how often I did it lmao), etc? Looking to really get a deep dive into to it all. My wife is also French Creole like I am and has been wanting to experience some Houdon firsthand, so any places y’all can recommend would be appreciated greatly.
Merci, cheres. Looking forward to comin home 💜💚
I'm with my wife and toddler, and we're here for two days, looking for restaurant recommendations nearby to try some New Orleans, Louisiana cuisine. Thank you!
What’s ur review
I was in New Orleans with my family. We were in the garden district 1 minute and in a dangerous neighborhood the next I forgot what street we walked down. But then we heard people talking about guns and people was on the porch of their house staring at us plus there was a lot of police activity. Do you know what the name of this area is? ( Just so that when we come back, we'll know not to go there)
Has anyone been for dinner? All I hear about this place is brunch but the menu looks good
Hey! So my husband is going to be out here temporarily, and I am going with him. I’ll be here for about a month or two and wanted to ask if there are any bars that do traveling or temporary bartenders? I’m looking to still work a little bit while out there, and wanted to see where I should talk to. Thanks in advance!
Hey all. Wife and I are planning a trip and want to get a small tattoo so we're looking for a great shop that does walk-ins. So what are some good shops that do good work that y'all recommend?
Husband and I are visiting at Christmas and I'm a real sucker for sparkly lights! Is the whole park lit up? Can we just wander around and take some pictures, or is it only specific ticketed areas?
Anything I've found online suggests tickets needed - I don't need to see the botanical gardens in the dark or ride a merry go round!
Me and my boyfriend (both 20) are in New Orleans for Halloween week and leaving Nov 2. He had a work trip here and incidentally we happen to be here during Halloween. Does anyone have any ideas of what we can do Halloween night (a Thursday) and the weekend for adults but under 21?
Hey all - visiting NOLA for a conference. Any recs on bars (cocktail or wine) that have a chill atmosphere? Bonus points if they’re in a safe(r) area. Thanks :)
I’m from Thibodaux so am there often, and I’m honestly tired of the same ol places. Husband and I have to head up to Metairie on Friday to have my ring resized, and I can’t make up my mind if I want chicken or veal parm or something that speaks to my heart.
I’m open to anything. I’d like to stay close to Metairie, but we’re open to heading out about a half hour in any direction.
I just need ideas bc I’m blanking.
Edited to add: This is for lunch, and I’d like to keep it fairly casual. I’m not one to dress up.
This is last minute, I am going to New Orleans this weekend. While it’s not the first time, it is my first time with a decent camera. I would like to pick a good swamp tour for wildlife pictures and I’d greatly appreciate any other suggestions. I enjoy taking landscape pics as well as just unsettling pictures. Not that unsettling is a category of photography but I’m hoping that helps people point me in the right direction! Are the plantation or cemetery tours worth it? TIA!
