Yes we can sideload but bugs like the imgur-not-loading bug will never be fixed. I can see us slowly gaining more bugs as reddit breaks certain things in the API.
Basically the title! I’ve sideloaded Apollo and it’s totally awesome. However I’ve noticed if I upvote a post, then refresh the feed, that post is gone! I’ve looked around various settings on the app and don’t see anything applicable to this. I know the settings from the reddit website has a feature that does this, but I don’t have it enabled. Anyone have an idea what’s going on here?
Man Reddit’s app sucks ass (not Apollo). Haven’t been able to post comments due to the app freezing randomly when typing something out and forcing me to discard the comment. Congrats on making it so difficult to engage with Reddit on mobile. Guess I’ll just go back to lurking. Big surprise I’m even able to post this.
¯_(ツ)_/¯

the official reddit app is the most unintuitive piece of shit ever
can we convince the apollo creator to re-launch apollo, even if it costs money for the app itself on the app store, and then have a setting to input our own api key?
I have the app side loaded using sideloadly but in the past week every time i try to save a video it will say error sharing. I've looked at other posts that had the same issue ive tried different app versions ive tried uninstalling but nothing seems to work, and its was out of the blue basically worked just fine a week ago
An update to my earlier post here: https://old.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/1c3quj6/ondevice_notifications_for_apollo_3/
I've updated the shortcut to support 2FA:
https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/d181bd4403c84fcf816381642b3f2a16
Dependencies:
Intructions are basically the same, except you also need to specify the OTP code in the text box and install pyotp via Pypi in the Pyto app.
It looks like with Pyto you can simply request a free trial every 3 days to avoid buying a license but it's a bit of a pain.
I was wondering, if I pay for an Apple developer account Am I going to receive notifications from Apollo?
Today I’m trying to download video and after “Preparing…” popup it errors out end throws “Error while sharing.
I’ve tried different sideloading methods and different tweaks, but nothing works
Every damn day, I miss Apollo. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Following the guide outlined here: https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/16naxdo/how_to_install_apollo_via_altstore/
I've got SideStore installed and I've installed Apollo. I'm trying to set up the app from the Reddit preferences page (I've tried both: https://www.reddit.com/prefs/apps/ and https://old.reddit.com/prefs/apps) but no matter what I do, I always get "an error occurred (status: 500)." response when trying to create the app.
Looking at r/redditdev and the Reddit status page, it doesn't look like there's any known outage on the Reddit side. It makes me wonder if the side-loading instructions (at least the part about making a Reddit app) are stale? Has anyone made an app and got side-loading up and running more recently than 4-5 months ago?
I will be traveling in a little but, but will not have access to my PC to do the weekly refresh for my sideloaded Apollo through sideloadly/Itunes. I will have access to Wifi. What other options do I have? edit: without jailbreaking
TIA
I never used Apollo. I think I used yet another Reddit app or something.
Having recently just gotten into heavily using Reddit, I have to say that the phone experience is AWFUL. The design choices are ass backwards.
Clicking on a comment CLOSES IT. In what world of UX and UI is that ok?
The … on comments and posts is too difficult to hit and sometimes I can’t even upvote or downvote because the icons are so small
There was either no thought or the creators of the reddit app are very much hostile towards its users.
After working flawlessly for the last several months, the sideloaded app isn’t playing ball anymore.
Hey, I’m using the app sideloaded through AltStore. I want to update it, since it’s a version almost from the time of the original API fiasco, and there have been some improvements since then (like Imgur API support, for example)
However, I’m afraid of losing my literally almost 1500 filters. Will updating the app by downloading a newer version, then sideloading it again wipe the filters? And if so, is there any way to preserve the filters?
Thank you
I’m wondering if this is possible
Its giving me an invalid client id: sideloaded using signaulous
I have signed in im good
My gf has Apollo on her iphone through startup app. It is my account. We have it on 2 TVs at our house, my phone and her phone.
It has worked fine on all other devices except her phone. Her phone was working good, but overtime it has slowly gotten worse. It will freeze, she will get play back errors app will crash… Why would this be?
How can I troubleshoot just her phone to try and fix this?
It’s bad. It’s really bad. If only third party apps were properly permitted and could skip this ugly bullshit.
Ok this is a bit silly XD but it works!

I created an iOS shortcut that interacts with the reddit API, polls messages in the inbox and then sends notifications for messages it hasn't seen. Basically exactly what I did with this script: https://github.com/m4rkw/apollo-notifications - but implemented as an iOS shortcut.
Obviously this is very limited as it can't be easily run regularly, however it could still be useful for people who aren't very tech savvy and/or don't want to run a server or mess about with python. It could be executed once an hour with timed automations for example, or automated for whenever specific apps open or close in order to run more frequently. Perhaps those people who can't figure out python/server stuff can have a solution to get at least some notifications rather than none.
Points to note
requires Rest HTTP API client - https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/rest-http-api-client/id1318172341 - this is because there seems to be a bug in the Shortcuts "Get Contents of URL" action whereby it just hangs when I try to retrieve an access token from the reddit API. The same request works with GET and from other devices on the same network so I suspect it may be something to do with POST over HTTP/2. Anyway, couldn't get it to work so I used this for the access token request. Costs £4.99
requires Data Jar (free) - https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/data-jar/id1453273600
requires Pushover - https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/pushover-notifications/id506088175 to send the notifications
won't work if 2FA is enabled for your reddit account
Instructions
Get the dependency apps listed above
Create a personal use app here: https://old.reddit.com/prefs/apps/ make a note of the client id and client secret
Get Pushover, create an app for Apollo, give it a cool Apollo icon etc, and make a note of your pushover user key and the key for the apollo app you created in Pushover
Edit the shortcut and replace the following bits of text in the text blocks near the top with your values:
Now when you run the shortcut it will check for new inbox items and send you notifications for any that it hasn't seen before. When the notifications are opened they will automatically redirect to the message or comment in Apollo (assuming you have url redirection enabled in Pushover, can't remember if this is the default or not).
Does anyone got reddit IPO at 34$?? Or everyone started with 50 at starting when booked an IPO!!
