How do I get flair on this subreddit?

/r/amileaday permits flair reflecting your runstreak number, which is managed by a bot (/u/mileadaybot, thanks to its creator /u/herumph).

To show your flair in this subreddit, simply 'call' the bot by posting a comment (preferably in a Weekly Check-in thread) including only the text !flair # (e.g. !flair 1). To remove your flair just say: !remove username (e.g. !remove sailingpj).

If you would prefer legacy flair like what /u/gunslingerroland used to do, then comment: !flair legacy # This will update your flair in units of 10.

For complete instructions, go to this thread.

Hump Day - January 29, 2025

Just in time for the hardest day of the week, let's hear your COMPLAINTS AND STRUGGLES!

Is that knee or hip still nagging you? Did that other person awkwardly match pace with you for a few blocks for the third time this week? Did they instead have the audacity to pass you while looking smug?

If any of that or anything else happened this week, here is the place to vent!! If your family and friends told you to shut up because your constant running talk is making them guilty, this thread is for you!!!

1653 day streak no match for norovirus

Yesterday my streak ended. I had thought there was no way I wouldn’t make it to five years. I’ve been sick during the streak, but NOTHING like what is happening to me right now. Without getting into all of the details, my body has absolutely betrayed me and utterly embarrassed me. I’m bummed. More than a little bummed. But how lucky am I to have gone four and a half years without getting this sick?! Good luck and happy running to all of you.

Help deciding to end or maintain a run streak

I’m 931 days into a minimum 5k a day run streak. I’ve run through tiredness, at 12.01 am to get it in before flying, through a few epic hangovers (and drunk!), covid twice, food poisoning, plenty of niggles, the day after I dislocated my shoulder (I’d run already the day it popped out, thankfully!) You name it.

The mental resilience it has given me has been incredible, I’ve worked through grief and stress in those 25-30 mins every day of being with my thoughts. I am not one for yoga or mediation, but this feels like a form of active meditation.

But I’m tired. The last few months have felt really tough. Some days it’s like an albatross around my neck, and some days I procrastinate on everything because my run is hanging over me. I play tennis, but know I can’t play to optimum level when I have to run every day too. But I’m not convinced I’ll be disciplined with my exercise without taking the decision making out of the equation. I can get down, and then just let it get away from me.

I’m not sure where this all leaves me, I feel conflicted. Mentally, I never regret a run. Maybe it’s just the winter months? Do I target 1000, or 3 years? I started out with a 30 day goal, and just kept going. Anyone else been in this position? I don’t fancy dropping to a mile - not because I think anything is wrong with a mile - just because I know myself and I’ll go to 5k or I won’t be arsed to put kit on/take kit to work etc for a mile.

App that syncs from Garmin and Apple watches?

New run streak (day 30!) but not to running. I have a Garmin and am switching to apple watch, but will still be using my garmin for longer eforts, so I'm looking for an app that wil sync to both. Suggestions?

I don't need analytics or data, I also use training peaks. Just want a simple counter that I don't have to log myself. (because lazy)

Last year I made it almost six months, from Jan 1 to mid June. I started again yesterday.

I lost 35 lbs last year doing mile a day. It ended up being much more than a mile a day as I prepared for my second marathon.

My first marathon was Honolulu 2022 and my time was 6:05. Then I started mile a day, which turned into marathon training and my second marathon was San Francisco 2023 and my time was 3:59. In January when I started I was doing 7-10 mpw and maxed at 30-40 mpw during marathon training.

Since then I’ve had many ups and downs. Depression, pneumonia, shingles, busyness of raising toddlers, etc and have gained 80% of the weight back. Yesterday I started mile a day again. Wish me 🤞.
