Does anyone know anywhere to date or meet friends with social anxiety?

I’m 23 and just moved here a couple months ago but am having trouble meeting friends. My neighbor says it’s cause it’s a small town but I know that shit still has to be easier than just walking around town randomly hoping to bump into someone

Any clubs/nightlife?

I’m 24, currently living in Windber, from Philly. I’m a pretty active guy, I like to mingle and meet people, love the nightlife and party scene. Anywhere over where you guys are in Altoona that has some spots?

Does anybody have any gym recommendations?

My wife and I are new to the area and are looking to get into a gym routine. Both of us have been in gyms before, but aren’t exactly the powerlifting scene. Any advice on where to look/where to avoid?

Does Johnnys-u-pull-it still buy and pick up junk cars?

First thing that came up when I searched said permanently closed. I still called the phone number and couldn’t get a hold of anyone though it seems like they’re still in business

Edit; anyone have a recommendation for a place that does buy and pick up cars?

Stolen/destroyed Harris signs

It’s ironic that a party that calls democrats snowflakes, feels the need to vandalize somebody’s property because of a sign. You have some makeshift tent moving different spots everyday to sell shirts probably from China. If somebody vandalized a trump flag or sign they would call the police and be up in arms. I shouldn’t have some dude coming to my door soliciting my vote. Just shows how desperate people are because no matter how many fake “assassination” attempts and fake bullshit he spews, he knows he’s losing. This city is embarrassing.

Location Recommendations

I am doing a photo shoot for my son and his family. While I am a native and have used locations such as canoe creek, valley view, legion park, so the more known locations. I was curious if anyone is aware of hidden gems within twenty miles from Altoona that are perfect backdrops for the beautiful colors? Thanks in advance.

Quick restaurant recs?

In town for two nights. I am looking for a non-chain/local restaurant with a nice atmosphere for a casual meal. Any suggestions?

Genre of food is irrelevant really- just want somewhere that’s going to be good without being a hassle and is something I haven’t had before.

TV Guides/Shock Theater

Hi, I grew up in the Altoona area and lived there until a few years back. I’m looking for someone that can confirm my memory of a show called Shock Theater that came on either Friday or Saturday nights at either 11:30 or midnight (I think it was Saturday) in the 1980s (preferably 1985-1987 time frame). Yes I am aware of the shock theater that was on in the 1960s. This is not the same thing. This was to be in the Johnstown Altoona broadcasting area, and I’m pretty sure it was on CBS (WTAJ Channel 10). It may have only ran in the summer. My memory is kind of hazy on that. I have a couple old Johnstown/Altoona edition TV guides that I tracked down on eBay from 1985 and 1986, but they do not show it in there.

boat storage for winter in Altoona Area?

bought a used 17.5' bass boat last spring that I keep in my yard right now...would like to store it for the winter in a garage or storage warehouse close by if the cost is reasonable. Anyone know of any places to recommend?

Things to do

A friend of mine is returning from deployment, and visiting the area for the first time. I've always lived here, so sometimes I forget things exist or I think they are boring.

What would you recommend for a weekday activity in October?

Most festivals are on the weekend unfortunately. So far, weather dependent, my list includes:

Thousand Steps Free DCNR activities in the parks Double Tap gun range An escape room Bowling Mamie's cafe Sheetz Primantis

Yes, I'm including food lol. I'm not taking him someplace he can go anywhere in the country.

Thinking of moving back. What are things like now?

I joined the military and moved out around 2014 Some family issues have popped up and it might involve me getting my family home for pennies on the dollar. I'm pysched but I'm still trying to convince the wife. We live in a city rn and there are a lot if things she doesn't want to lose so in wondering if Altoona or it's outlying area has gotten any if these since I was a kid.

Is there any small theater scene? Have any asian grocery stores opened up? Hiw are the board game/tcg clubs? What is there to do in terms of nature parks, art museums, and general things to do? What's the board gaming, comics, and tcg scene like? Any good, bigger the better, plant nurseries in the area?

Moving to Altoona(possibly)

Hi everyone! I am a young adult male mid to late 20s. I will be moving to Altoona from NJ for work. I needed help finding good safe neighborhoods where I can look for apartments. Preferably near downtown. I am a fairly outdoorsy person. Easy and quick access to bars and restaurants would be appreciated.

TIA

Moving to Altoona (possibly) from New Jersey

Hi everyone I am a young adult male in mid-to-late 20s. I will be moving to Altoona for work. I would like to know what are some good neighborhoods to look for a place to rent. I would prefer something near downtown with easy access to bars and restaurants. I am pretty outgoing I like to go to bars have a drink or two. I also like sports so vicinity of any pickleball club or parks would also be fine.

TIA

Memory and request

I originally posted this on a reddit asking which I liked better STP or Pearl Jam. It triggered this fond memory.

I was 16 when the STP plush album came out. That summer, I was participating in a summer camp done by the county recreation branch, and one day, they took us to a local amusement park. At the park, they had a modified caterpillar ride. They added a wooden dome and put lights, blacklist and sirens inside. As the ride operated, the staff would put on music and usually would play one song for the ride. We'll this day I brought the STP album and I asked the operator to play the fist song. I jumped in the one seat with my best friend, and we rode that ride with STP blaring. Afterwards, we got out, and since it was early in the day, we jumped back in line and were first, so we played the second song on the CD. By this time, we had 20 teens all with us, and the operator kept the cd, and by the end, we rode the ride enough times that we played every song on the cd. The operator returned the CD and said that it was the best time he had that summer and all of us teens agreed.

The amusement park was called Blands Park back then, now Del Grosso's. The ride was called the Space Odyssey, which unfortunately was removed from the park.

I heard that the ride was more expensive to upkeep so they got rid of it, but I was the best ride they had. Wish we could get it back.
