Alt Country - "Because punk-rock is too hard to sing."
"Alternative Country" is a rather ambiguous term that can mean a wide variety of music to an even wider range of people but here's wikipedia's definition of Alternative Country. And these are just some examples:*

It has been pointed out that "alt" means "old" in German; and it's been pointed out that alt country might be the real heirs to the old Johnny Cash tradition...
"It's not alt. country. It's called 'Country.'"

This guest weekend meteorologist on ABC24 in Memphis this weekend. Made me do a double take and laugh. Then quickly add some Lucero inspired weather predictions.
Mine was Easy Company by Futurebirds
Does anyone else find the acoustic versions of her singles to be better than the studio ones?
If you aren't familiar with Willis Alan Ramsey, he put out one album in the early 70s and then effectively disappeared. It was largely forgotten until the 21st century when people came to appreciate just how good (and ahead of its time) it was.
Had a gritty, stripped down sound that other outlaw singers in the 70s would continue and perfect, but it's so great. Not an ounce of fat on the album. Wondered if there are other similar "ahead of its time" albums from the late 60s and early 60s that are equally good and were equally forgotten.
Just got this random recco on YT, only has a couple hundred views and its pretty good.
Title says. Also, RIP Jess Barr miss you champ. Great musician and a Great Father.
Decided to try and compile all the best pedal steel forward alt country artists out there. Who am I missing?
If you ever caught a Lilly Hiatt full band show over the last 3 albums, Forever will be a nice continuation. Not fully alt-country, but it's there on several tracks. If you want a more twangy version, catch her solo. Personally, I like rock-Lilly.
My new song and video.

So I saw John Craigie live in Amsterdam last night. Before playing on of his final songs, he was telling a seemingly unrelated story about Jesus' betrayel after the last supper. In this story, one of Jesus' friends (apostles) bites off the ear of the 'cop' who wanted to arrest JC, "and the cop was like 'f***!'", Craigie said, "of course they didn't have that back then so he probably cursed something biblical like... Ewadz*". A few people in the audience laughed at this and John Craigie said "Ewadz. Back in the states, this joke would kill".
Please advice. What is the word he used that (to me) sounded like something like 'ewadz' and what does it mean? *Since I didn't know the word, there's a 99,95% this is not how it's actually spelled.
I've searched the sub & see they have been mentioned several years ago with tepid reactions. I want to re-engage the question: what do y'all think about Cracker from an alt country perspective? I, personally, would consider them alt country, through thick 90s lenses, but I'm interested in your perspectives.
