I'm currently being medically retired in the air national guard and am wondering if I'll get the post 911 bill. I have no deployments but was on title 10 orders for my boot camp and tech school which was over 30 days and I'm being discharged due to a service connected disability. I've heard a lot of mixed answers. Can anyone help me out with their experience or with regulations to support their answer? Thank you.
Hey everyone!
I'm working AI implementation projects that get after productivity enhancements and curious to hear how folks are integrating AI tools into their daily workflows.
Things like - Streamlining tasks, automation of routine queep, creative or formal writing, or something else entirely—I'd love to know what tools you're using and how they're making a difference in your day-to-day.
With OPSEC in mind, it’d be awesome to hear specifics on:
The tools you're using (AskSage.mil, NIPRGPT, CAMOGPT, OneBrief, Fight Tonight, etc.)
Examples of tasks they’re helping with
Unique or unexpected benefits you've noticed
Challenges or limitations you've run into
-What do you want to see that would be most helpful to you?
Why do I want to know this -
Well... I'm rolling out the implementation of some AI tools that may make their way down to your workplace and I'd rather hear from folks now rather than read the salty feedback too late on Discord and Reddit
Thanks! Jaye

LEAP has been a program I’ve been interested in for some time however, it hasn’t been made available to Guard members. There are a few AFSCs now which are able to participate and I anticipate more being added as time goes on!
Hello all, I'm needing some guidance if you have any information. I'm currently finishing up my initial 3 year AGR tour and was told I will be able to continue as "career" airman to re-up another 3 years AGR. Well someone didn't inform me that a ACB was needed for a 3 year extension, so I never got that done. My orders end tomorrow and my commander has said I will be retained AGR and is going to to write me something up stating I will have orders and they will be backdated.
I have let my immediate chain know about this issue months prior and together we've not gotten any answers and since it's crunch time, we've gotten our squadron and group commander involved.
I've been advised to not come to work if not on orders (obviously for liability)
Is this a HRO issue? Is this a state issue? Or did someone just forget my stuff and screw me over?
I will lose my child care assistance, which I literally cannot afford to pay full price out of pocket, and my tricare coverage for myself and my dependent.
I apologize if I seem like I'm blabbing, but I'm just super stressed.
I reenlisted in 2020 while overseas for a bonus of 20k. I got the first half of the bonus immediately and was supposed to get the second half sometime mid 2025(next year) I have been in inactive status due to personal reasons(work and single dad) for just under a year. I am ready to go back and am wondering if I will still receive the second half of my bonus in 2025 as I was supposed to, seeing as I wasn’t in the ING for more than a year.
I’m debating about leaving my civilian job for a Fed Tech job for personal reasons but I don’t know much about the retirement plan for fed tech. Online it seems you can retire at age 50 if you have 20 years of service, does your service as a DSG count towards this or is it separate ? I’m an O-3 on the military side so that would be a GS-11/12 on the civilian side but according to the pay charts, they only make about $85-$90k a year which seems a bit low. Do they get allowances like the military ?
I am a direct commission (chaplain) going to my first duty weekend Friday. I am just kind of wondering what to expect/ how can I not embarrass myself or the chaplain team. The one thing I know is that I know nothing. My guess is that I will follow the other chaplains around, meeting the unit, and just watching. I know our SGT assistant is going to work with me Friday morning on exactly this, not embarrassing the team. What advice do y'all have for a new LT/ chappie?
I’m transferring to a new base and they would like me to backfill soon as they are deploying. I’d like to but problem is im 11 week postpartum as a single parent and my base is 3 hours from my HOR(where my support system is). Does anyone know if there is childcare for backfillers? Or is it just an AGR/Tech/full-timer thing? TIA
Does anyone on here from Kentucky know the date range for this award? Used to be in the unit, transferred to the IRR, never really cared about state awards but I'm trying to get my ribbon rack squared away for a shadow box. I know it was awarded in Oct of 2023.
I made a post recently about staying in or getting out. I know people that drill quarterly, one of them lives in like 3 states over from our unit. It sounds like going that route is as close as it gets to having a full time civilian life. What is the catch to it? If you only have to show up a few times a year, why don’t more people just do that? Is there only a limited number of slots available? Does it limit opportunities? What are the pros/cons?
I’m about to hit 11 years in the Guard. I know we’ve all heard “If you do 10 might as well do 20”. To me, the retirement benefits alone don’t seem worth it. I’m not using the Guard for school. I try to use it for more of a part time job. Going to drill & AT and occasional orders have always been easy money for me. Outside of that, I just don’t have patience for the hurry up and wait. Right now I have no desire to deploy. I’m not in love with my AFSC or my unit. It doesn’t seem like there are many good options but the extra money and having a job to fall back on is tough to leave. Has anyone else gotten out before hitting 20?
Are there any part-time federal or state positions that you can take to finish your guard time for retirement? This would be non-military service and part time (similar to traditional guardsman).
Apologies in advance if I’m not using the right terminology. Reading the following article about my local wing and it got me wondering: what happens to the airmen whose AFSC’s get phased out / are no longer supported with the new mission/structure of the wing? I have some ideas of course, but was wondering all the various avenues across the board of what can happen.

I got a notice that my current insurance, TRS is switching from Tricare East to TriWest as of January 2025. I’ve had Tricare for years and I’m honestly very happy with it. I’m a little worried about the switch because I’ve done some searching and found several negative reviews from fellow service members as well as retirees about TriWest. One of the main things I’m concerned about is the fact that Tricare East is covered by Humana, and TriWest is apparently ran by some Federal Health System. Has anyone on here experienced TriWest or have any good things to say about it?
Thanks.
I’ve heard mixed answers on whether guardsmen are required to or not. All the information I see pertains to Active Duty and not Traditional Guardsmen who get activated under Title 10.

I've heard it's not in effect despite the ndaa saying it would be on 01 Oct 24
Can someone explain to me how AGR promotions work? Is it based on how many slots your shop has for that rank like it is as a technician/DSG, or is it based on the control grade for that AGR position?
This might seem like an odd post, but I'm writing it with the perspective as if I'm talking to a mentor...
There is an officer positioning opening up in my SQ, but it's a DSG position and I'm a MSgt AGR. I think I'll be a good candidate and want to apply, but I'm afraid of giving up my AGR spot.
Some backstory, I've got 20yrs in (13 active), love being in the Air Force, have a passion for leadership (bachelor's in Organizational Leadership, mentor airman, try to teach little nuggets here and there to my peers, etc), I'm sure I'll stay in until they kick me out due to age. My leadership knows I'm ready for SMSgt but there isn't any positions available near me, and am willing to move if one catches my eye. They have also pushed me to apply for WO since I have an extensive networking background (had CCNP), and are now nudging me towards officer positons.
On the personal side, my wife is pregnant with twins and we'll be loosing one income and gaining 2 mouths to feed. We don't have family nearby and will rely heavily on our community that we've built here to help us in time of needs. I had planned on putting my career progression on hold for a couple years so that we can focus on family life, and to stay here since we have a community to help while we're figuring things out as new parents.
But this opportunity comes out of no where and it is something that I'd want. My wife supports any decision I make. But is the risk worth it? My fear is not having/finding a job if I do get it.
Any advice from those that have gone done this path or one similar?
I'm in southern california. I'm currently a GS-11 technician at the moment with retention and all in a couple months I'll be over the 6 figures mark around 110k annually and I'm getting mixed reviews on whether or not to go AGR. I understand for AGR i'll be back on my "rank" pay.
My overall goal is just to maximize benefits and quality of life. So I have no query working AGR and or technician status, but from my own personal understanding, would I not be taking a major pay hit?
Can someone who's been in both positions tell me the overall cons/pros?
I'm in the cyber / IT field.
Thank you so much for time in advanced!
I’ve been doing this job for a while and have experience in my active duty time
Anyone have experience using it and know the process of how it works? I found the website for it but I still have several questions on how it works. And no one in my unit seems to know anything.
Hi - my husband is currently in student flight as an E-3 waiting on BMT dates and his AFSC is Aircraft Armament Systems (Weapons). I know he’ll be paid for student flight and receive pay as an E-3 while in basic, tech school, and beyond.
But since he’ll be away from me and our children (married) - what benefits would we all receive? The TriCare I know, but do we get BHA or spousal separation pay while he’s at BMT and tech school? Or anything additional for the kids? How do we pay for TriCare? How do we get dependent IDs?
He’ll be in tech school and then be on base here in VA for 2-3 months of additional training post-tech school.
I feel so lost - please help with any info!
I don't live near a base (commute to drill) so my wife has never needed an ID. She's on her own health care, etc. Anyway, she wants an epic pass this year and needs some document that proves she's a registered spouse/dependent. The docs specifically say "a CAC is not acceptable". So what is this document and where can I get it? Vail resorts was not super helpful. She IS in DEERs and shows up if I go to milconnect, but the other recommended docs were all tricare related, which neither of us use. Any thoughts, or do I have to go through the process of getting a CAC and hope that will work? Anyone actually done a spouse epic pass? It's like the best deal in the military.
edit: for anyone trying to buy a spouse epic pass, a screenshot of milconnect with her name on it was accepted. Thanks for everyone with the help. I did go through steps to get her an ID, I'm trying to move to a closer unit and maybe one day she'll actually come on base.
The new PSDM has dropped and there is a lot more states on the list!
Talk with your leadership to see if your state is one of them (You should be able to find the PSDM on MyFSS. FY25 ANG Warrant Officer Selection Board Announcement is what you should be searching for). I highly recommend you read the PSDM from top to be bottom and be very familiar with it if you are planning to apply.
Any packages with missing/incomplete documents are pretty much gonna be tossed out.
The plan is to have all selectees completed with WOTS by the end of 2025
For more information on WOTS and Air Force Warrants hit up https://www.airuniversity.af.edu/Holm-Center/WOTS/
I did see some AGR slots in there but a majority of them are DSG
December drill will have made it a year since I’ve been in. 1N0X1 is my AFSC and I haven’t gotten any dates yet. They said it’s my clearance but they also said as long as I’m okay before tech school…
Hoping I’ll leave sometime within the next 3-5 months because there are many things I want to do. Tired of this dead end job
Any SVS guardsman here? what is deployment experience like for you guys? Did you guys get to do fitness-related or MWR events besides the contingency feeding/tent building tasks? Just wondering
BLUF - I want to get rid of the newbie thread and send people to r/AirForceRecruits. But I want to know what the community thinks since some people have told me they appreciated the help they received.
Most recruiters on the sub have moved their efforts to r/AirForceRecruits or are inactive, and we’re seeing excessive repeat questions from people who aren’t searching or using the resources provided in the newbie info thread.
Only a handful of the same users are answering, and it’s becoming a burden to moderate. While this isn’t visible to most, it impacts regular posts and discussions. Despite reminders in at least four places to avoid posting joining questions in the main thread, I’m still redirecting over a dozen posts daily. Automod is working overtime to filter them out, which often causes legitimate ANG member posts to get removed or delayed.
I'd like your input on whether to keep the newbie thread or redirect all recruiting questions to r/AirForceRecruits.
So I’m flying for the first time not being on any sort of order.
Looking through Travelocity and I’m seeing how they all charge for checked bags; are there any airlines that waive the fee for currently serving members?
