Welcome to the subreddit for the world's best and loudest rock 'n roll band.

AC/DC are a hard rock band formed in 1973 by Malcolm and Angus Young in Sydney, Australia. After going through several members they released their debut High Voltage with Bon Scott on vocals. The band released another 7 albums before Bon's untimely death in 1980.

After mourning the loss of a dear friend, Angus and Malcolm decided to start auditioning for another singer. In the words of Mal, "Bon would've wanted it." They ended up hiring ex-Geordie vocalist Brian Johnson and went on to release their biggest album ever, Back In Black.

AC/DC has since added another 9 studio albums and 2 live albums to their discography. There is no doubt that AC/DC are one of the biggest rock and roll bands of our time. Still touring and playing to sold out stadiums around the world, we have not seen the last of them yet.

Line-Up:

  • Angus Young (lead guitar)
  • Stevie Young (rhythm guitar)
  • Brian Johnson (vocals)
  • Cliff Williams (bass)
  • Phil Rudd (drums)

SNL

Can anyone point me towards better quality video of their snl performance? The ones I have found are pretty shitty. Thanks! Also, just wanted to say that this is my favorite place to be on reddit! Always great topics, questions and convos!

Highway to hell

Highway to hell gets a lot of flak for softening the edges on the AC/DC formula for a more commercial sound, but that was simply the direction they had chosen to go in; proven by most (if not all) later albums. It would’ve been a whole new era for AC/DC, the era of stadium rock that Bon Scott had always wanted. To me, Highway to Hell is like a blistering reinvention after Powerage, which I feel was their creative pinnacle. The momentum from the amazing Highway to hell album (and yes, despite being somewhat diluted, it’s still an amazing album, I think it’s often underrated by fans because it was the first and only Bon AC/DC Record to take the more commercial, simple approach) would have no doubt continued after, with Bon Scott alive. It’s a real tragedy that the band at their pinnacle would lose their singer, Bon Scott, who was also at his own peak, having been further guided by Mutt Lange in breathing techniques for singing. TLDR; Highway to hell is absolutely one of the top AC/DC albums. The herald of things to come had Bon Scott not died, the precipice of making it big (which they did)

What's AC/DC saddest song?

I think "Ride on" is gonna win. I choose that. And I want to mention "Rock and roll dream"

I feel that AC/DC is being under represented in current day social media

While on social media I’ve found myself seeing many rock and metal related videos. You constantly see bands like Metallica, GNR, and nirvana being talked about all the time. But I rarely see anyone talk about AC/DC unless they are a much smaller creator that is only posting about the one band. I feel it could be a result of younger audiences not taking to AC/DC as much as these other bands. At the same time there are so many crazy stories about the bands history from famous performances, to struggles, to having trouble in Belgium. What’s your opinions on this do you feel the same way as me or am I missing something?

I hate myself for hating this album

I listened to the album for the first time like 2 years ago (I discovered AC/DC only a few years ago) and I liked Heatseeker and The Way I Wanna Rock n Roll but I really didn’t like the album as a whole. Revisited the album this week and I was blown away! I think Meanstreak, Nick of Time and Some sin for nothin are absolutely brilliant songs and I enjoyed every single track on the album. Yall should give this album another listen if you’re not sure what to listen to tonight! Cheers

My backing vocal hot take

For the 2024 (and beyond?) tour, the backing vocals were quite obviously tracks, and the same ones used at Power Trip at that. I have zero issue with that (other than the fact that the “running right off the track” on Rock N Roll Train is clearly the SAME take repeated over and over…) Anyway…

My wishful thinking hot take: Cliff’s vocals are in there, so he was technically part of every tour show.

Discuss/converse/fall out disgracefully.

Live at Columbus Ohio 1978

The band's official YouTube channel has just uploaded a bunch of audios from that concert and they are WILD!

I don't know how much common they were as bootlegs, but I don't remember listening to that specific show on YouTube. Anyway, always good to have some live Powerage era material to (re)discover.

Why did the writing quality of AC/DC songs go way down after Back In Black?

So I see online that there is contention to whether Bon Scott attributed to Back in Black, with seemingly the side of him having little to no involvement being the most accepted opinion.

I don't really care about that, but why do you think that the song writing was so good for that one Brian Johnson album but then it was sub-par afterwards?

In your opinion, what is the weakest part about the latter AC/DC albums?

I am a massive AC/DC fan, but frankly a lot of their albums are simply o.k. to not that good. I mean I actually don't mind flick of the switch but fly on the wall and blow up your video are no way near the level of their other stuff. I mean I straight up don't get the love for fly on the wall, the production itself is just so horrible.

I think a lot of it for me comes down to the writing, something that I did not really appreciate as a kid, but some of the stuff on Powerage is so strong and I think this out of anything is what made the original albums so great.

I'm not here to hate at all, I am aware that a lot of you guys love most of the albums here but for me I really can't get behind a lot of their later stuff.

Thoughts on AC/DC doing an USA tour for 2024/2025?

I just wanted to hear thoughts on if anyone thinks they will come tour USA? Usually by now they would have announced for USA tour but we only have 2 more months about until 2025. I want to say if they do tour here it'll be more 2025. But who knows, I feel like they would have announced it all ready.

Stevie makes a mistake and plays the beginning of Dirty Deeds instead of T.N.T.

Pretty funny how Matt is laughing while looking at Stevie lol.

Do y'all agree that Flick of the Switch was one of their least recieved albums? In my opinion it's up there with Powerage and Highway to Hell as my personal favorites
