Capital punishment is ineffective and unethical. Stand with us and oppose it. Abolish the death penalty!

Our goal is to be the catylyst that leads to the barbaric practice of executing citizens of the United States of America to be done away with.

We are the minority, but together we can be a force to put an end to the tooth for tooth "justice" of our ancestors.

We do not believe the solution to killing could ever be more killing. This is not how we solve problems in the 21st century

r/abolish update and changes

Hi all

For some time (try nearly 10 years) I have been quietly working in the background to approve new users, investigate reported posts and do what I can to promote the growth of this community.

It will be painfully obvious to many of you that the sub has lacked leadership from the moderation team for sometime. I myself only have some permissions which has been burdensome when the only mods with full permissions have long been inactive.

I am taking steps to acquire these permissions as I write this in the hopes I can remove some restrictions on posting, commenting and pull in some fresh blood to help me moderate the sub.

More updates to (hopefully) follow soon.

Best, Me

Today, the Parliament of Armenia ratified the Protocol No. 13 to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, concerning the abolition of the death penalty in all circumstances.

Shocking claims by a Catholic

This is from the Catholicism sub and Catholics are definitely against the death penalty. However the particular sub seems to attract very fundamentalist Catholics. My comment on respecting gays was downvoted to -145. While the following comment only got 16 downvotes. Even if what this person is saying is some kind of sick joke, the mods should have removed such content.

"I don’t understand why we’ve stopped burning heretics. Like, we imprison or even execute people for committing murder, but for killing the soul, there is no civil penalty. It just seems to make sense, not just from the perspective of justice, but also as a matter of practicality. If we let heretics keep leading people astray, then more souls will be lost.

I get that freedom of religion exists, but I don’t really understand why. If somebody could explain it, that’d be great.

Of course, I assent to all the church’s teachings, always. "

We do not have capital punishment in the EU, yet murder rate is much lower than in the USA

Capital punishment in the USA is such a despicable thing, that I cannot understand how this sub has only 1.8K members.

I am in the EU and in my country people do not own guns. Not even the police carry guns in their routine duties.

Those people who say that capital punishment discourages crime should look at real statistics and explain why the homicide rate in the USA is THREE times higher than in the EU, when we do not have capital punishment.

If the state were autonomous and could act without human interaction, capital punishment would be a force of nature, but because man must carry out the act, it is no different than premeditated murder, which is what it is.
